Still a bit wobbly, but after seeing your scroll / linearity tests I feel much much better about it not being "perfect." Great video! As an owner of a 32D201 myself, I can say that the red push could definitely be adjusted. Something interresting about these sets is that they have separate RGB settings for component which lets you have different values depending on the input (which might explain why some viewer mentioned the more saturated image on 240p TS)

    Awesome set! I've picked up a Sony Trinitron KV-AR34M81. It is stunning. It survived a bomb blast in Dubai. It does have geometry problems. If you can imagine pinching the middle top of the image and pulling it up slightly vertically through the middle. Service menu definitely can't fix it so I'll have to open her up. I'll be practicing on two smaller Trinitrons. A Trinitron KV-24LS35B and a small 14" Daewoo with some purity problems. Love your channel. I've learned so much from you. Cheers from the UK!

    • @lullylew9083
      @lullylew9083 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update. Fixed the geometry problems. This Trinitron had an extra set of rings on the yoke sat on their own further back that allowed for fixing this exact problem. Pull them apart and the top and bottom expand, or move them closer and they retract. Can't pull them too far apart though as this causes some distortion in the colour in the the corners. The manual states no more than 6cm. I've got mine pretty much as far apart as I can get them without ruining the picture and now have flat lines top and bottom.

  • @brandonkick

    Great video!
    I will agree the 36" would be a monster. My 32" D-Series sets are as heavy as I care to move on my own. Kudos to those of you lugging around those 200+ pound Trinitrons. I "probably" could carry one... but my back sure wouldn't like me for it.
    I am a wee bit disappointed there weren't more adjustments to make / that you could make.
    I'm wondering if it would be possible for me to shoot you over a few pictures of my two D-Series sets to see if you can give me an idea of what you think is causing the wavy lines?
    It's a bit strange, especially on my 32" Silver D-Series. Games themselves you don't really see / notice it. But the SegaCD BIOS screen and especially the menu in the 240p test suite.... the vertical lines on the left and right edges of the monitor have "waves" in them. Capacitor issues?

    This massive 36 inch JVC has alot better corner convergence than my 20 inch Emerson! I have a suspicion one of the convergence strips in my set has either shifted or fallen out entirely due to age. Don't know for sure though, haven't opened it up yet. I looked it up and apparently its a common problem on my set.

  • @Watcher3223
    @Watcher3223 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The funny thing about that picture tube is that it was actually made by RCA, even though the label bears the JVC trademark.
    RCA picture tubes of this era are actually very good, even though the deflection yoke is permanently bonded to the picture tube. It's just that RCA themselves made terrible electronics when it came to their own TV sets during the years that the brand was owned by Thomson Electronics.
    So, this monitor is a good marriage between good JVC electronics and a good RCA picture tube.

    Great video on one of the best bubble tubes out there. For those hunting for a JVC d series I would look for models with a 200,201,500 and 501 at the end e.g. AV-27d501. These are the d series that have higher tvl according to JVC's official specs (there may be more). JVC also used different suppliers for their tubes so that can affect the tvl as well.

      I own a 36D201 (December 2000), a 27D200 (October 1999), and a 36D303 (April 2002). The D201 and D303 both have 800 TVLs but the 303 is much better as it's newer, has a better comb filter, pro color temp settings, and better convergence and sound overall. I also had a 32D305, that one was my most advanced and later stage D Series (2005?), would have been my favorite if it were bigger, had an actual antiglare "dark tinted" tube, the ability to switch between component and composite/S-Video on the same input through the display, and a game mode. I've ditched most of my WEGAs and other CRTs for JVC TVs, especially the D-Series.

Got a BVM-9045D which has a pink hue where it should be white and the front pots for gain and bias don't seem to help at all. After watching this video it made me think that I may need to open it up and adjust the G2 voltage / screen? Or do you have any other ideas over what may cause this? Would love to fix it or get it fixed as otherwise the wee BVM is in great shape, but the overall pink hue is very noticeable.

    I just picked up one of these yesterday, actually! How are you SO lucky with your corner focus? The focus fades away over time and I've been told it's because of normal wear and tear on the flyback, to which its replacement is the only true fix for those fuzzy corners. Do you think with that fixed yoke that there are still spots to place convergence strips?

    If only I could just buy something like that new via a normal retail outlet, for 240p and a good chunk of 480i, these JVC D SERIES/THOMPSON BLACK PEARL/RCA E SERIES & PRO SCAN (they all use the same 700+ TVL, dark tinted, high contrast tubes. I have a 35" THOMPSON Black Pearl, until I got it I thought Sony was king of the 240p/480 mountain, but these sets have better details, much brighter image whilst maintaining black levels, defined scanlines, Sony late 90s sets are best for PS2/DC/GC/XB/etc, any 3D 480i game.

    I know this is old, but the red over saturation is actually this dumb software "feature" you have to turn off in the service menu. You can also use red cut on models without this service option.
    Red Push fix: Enter the V/C (S) menu and change "NTSC MAT" to 0 on all inputs

    I've always been a huge JVC fanboy. They made some great products. They're still around today, but far, far less than they used to be, and in far less segments. Shame.

    The jump from composite to s video is massive. Its impossible for me to go back to composite. S video is the minimum.

    I feel so sad when TH-cam sends me to a CRT video. This technology is the highest high of human ingeniuty and yet it's destined to disappear. My 21 inch trinitron has bad geometry in one corner and I'm not skilled enough to try to fix it.
