    Great vid, Patrick, as always!
    As far as the price, in 1978, I bought a 1970 z28 for $1500.
    In 1979, I bought a '65 'Vette for $3500.
So, yeah, prices were low back then ... *sigh* I wish I still had those cars! :)

I was 20 in 1979, and 3,500.00 dollars bought a nice car like your '65 Vette!! With inflation it's around $12,000-13,000 today!!

    • @MikeBMW
      @MikeBMW 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ThomasJones-sz3sx Still less then the $60,000 or so these cars go for today.
Also, in the late '70s, everything was cheaper and wages were higher relative to the standard of living.
      Today, not so much.

I was 16 when I purchased my first car and the story goes as follows. A friend of mine who was working at a local wrecking yard called me and told me about a car that had just came in, So my mom and dad drove me out to look at it. It was a 1967 Buick GS400 complete and stock, no wrecks and nice interior, only issue is the trans was blown, the yard wanted 400 bucks for it with clean title. This was 1980 I drove that car up until the early 90's and then sold it. Wish I would have kept it, I guess that is what happens when you get married and she wants a house.

Wow! That car is a gem! All of the changes seem rather beneficial given the year of the car and making it more enjoyable. The tape deck is the most obvious of changes to people who are unfamiliar with the 1970 production. Back then, an 8 track would have been the cats meow... Love your videos! Please keep up the great work!

Patrick, I owned a 1970 Chevelle SS 396, I was a 4th owner ! It was a factory Rep. drove it for a bit ! He sold it to his nephew, when he was able to sell it, the nephew name was Mick Kruse ! He only drove it for a short time, he decided to trade it in at White Chevrolet in Lima, Ohio ! The dealership didn’t want to give him the money that he wanted for the trade ! The salesman bought the car, so he could make the sale on his new Camaro ! The salesman name was Terry Swaney ! That night Terry called me and said I have a car for you ! When I saw the Car I new who owned it and how it was cared for ! I bought the Car but had to put it in my Mom’s name because of my car insurance ! I sold it in November of 1972, because I bought a new 1973 Cutlass ! I have no Vin Number or the title to it ! I have been looking for this car for several years ! I tried finding it with my Tags, they were reserved tags ! I went to the title dept. with the tag number and they told me that I sold 2 years to early to trace the title with the tag ! The person that I sold it to his name was Danny Corwin ! Can you help me I have ran out of options ! It was Factory Silver with Black stripes Cowl Hood and Automatic on the floor with console ! Thank you

I'm guilty of 2 bonehead decisions from my younger days. When I was 16 (I'm 57 now) I sold a 67 RS camaro convertible with the rare power windows and original drivetrain for $75, and my ignorance didn't stop there. I also had a 65 Impala SS that was all original. The ignition was hanging from the dash and I had to start it with a screwdriver, and one day I was out driving in the pouring rain, and I mean it was coming down in buckets, and as I'm driving the ignition that was hanging would sway back and forth, but on this day one of the wires made contact with metal on the dash and shorted out and fried the ignition. There I am stranded on the side of the road when a gentleman pulls up and tried to help, but this was beyond a quick roadside repair and would have to be towed, and did I mention that the rain was coming down in buckets? I was so frustrated and didn't have but a couple dollars to my name, and I asked the guy if he would be interested in buying it for $100. He offered me $65, I accepted his offer, and he gave me a ride home. It was his problem now....so I thought at the time. The very next day what did I see cruising around town? You guessed it,none other than my 65 Impala SS.
The guy sees me walking down the street and pulls over. He had fixed the ignition by installing a push button other the dash. The guy drove the car for a long time, and every time I would see it out I would kick myself. As I got older I would kick myself even harder as the 2 cars that I sold became classics especially the 67 camaro.
This might sound like the fishing tale about the one that got away, but these were no tales. I had both of them and they both got away. Granted back then these cars were not the classics yet that they would later turn out to be and they weren't as valuable as they would turn out to be either, but I digress. I'm sure a lot of us have stories about the ones that got away, but at least we can say that we did indeed own a classic, and nobody can take that away.😀

Say Patrick, what's a 70 Monte Carlo SS 454 worth ? It's a 188 stamped block but the 3512 was pulled from the car and was on an engine stand when the building caught fire and the block formed a crack from #5 across the deck down through the lifter Valley up the side and through the #6 deck hole . The previous owner's did a lot of up grades like forged TRW 30 over pistons, crane cam but con rods were stock LS-5.GOT the crank out of the case and it was turned .010/.010. I asked around to see if the block was repairable but everyone would say no due to the massive crack . I'm still looking for a 3963512 block date casting Dec 69 .But they are rare because the LS-5 was the top engine in the vette. But other than that 90 % of the car is original except the paint .It came from the factory in Tuxedo black and forest green .
Any idea of what it is worth?.

My 70 Malibu street/strip car is in the paint shop getting refinished in it's "born with" Tuxedo Black now. Even though I installed a N.O.S., still in the beat up GM crate, domed (non cowl induction) hood, which took FOREVER to find, and DEFINITELY wasn't cheap, it WON'T be getting stripes. It also won't be getting any fake SS badges. I've never really cared for the stripes, and, it's a Malibu, not a Super Sport! If it can't take care of business with its 427 small block, then I'll have to go back to the drawing board. If I was to have it striped, they'd be silver in the middle with red for the outer pinstripes, because I'm still a Dale Earnhardt Sr fan to this day! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the Sport Stripes available as an extra cost option on all of the 1970 Chevelles/Malibus?

In 1979, it wasn't uncommon for big block cars to sell for a couple grand but $250!?! It has to be a special case. My brother sold his 1969 SS 396/325 with M21 (built up to 350hp perf) for $1,500 and it had a rough body but the interior and drivetrain were freshened. I wanted it but he wouldn't sell it to me as he worried I'd wrap it around a tree. Still miss buying it today.

How does a person get a hold of you Patrick about letting you know about a few cars. I am from Regent North Dakota which is in the southwest corner of the state. I myself own a barn find 1970 Chevelle 2 door Malibu that has been sitting inside for years. My cousin has a 71 Chevelle SS 454 with the ls5 454 engine and a four-speed manual transmission. He has owned this car since the mid-70s. It has not been driven it is unrestored and is also been sitting inside for much longer than mine has. His is a beautiful car. My Malibu has 1 rusty fender but all complete.

@@flatbrokeauto5746 these cars werent worth very much the late 70s and early 80s. Theres tons of stories of cool muscle cars going for dirt cheap back then. Warner brothers were buying 68 and 69 chargers for 500 bucks all day long back then for years

I bought my 72 Chevelle SS 454 4sp in 78 for $1000. had less than 40k miles. Put Air shocks and Cragers on it first chance then headers and Intake/carb. Lot of people then were getting rid of their big blocks because of gas prices. By buddy sold his 71 440 Cuda for $500 and it had less than 50k miles.

Donalddump, I'm aware of that but a little example is ten years ago I bought a 1970 Plymouth Belvedere off a guy for $50 bucks!
He also had a 1970 Duster he bought New for $100 bucks.
I went back to buy his 1970 Duster a month later and he just got the internet and that $100 dollar car became $2500 car.
My friend ended up buying it but this guy kept telling us that on the internet he watched Barrett Jackson blah blah blah blah blah, yeah yeah I know.
      Puke! 🤢

In 1979 this car was just a 9 year old beater, nothing more special at the time than a 2012 Malibu is today. For $250 it was something the old owner just wanted to unload, it was a gas guzzler with that big block V8.

Would love to show our 70 that we have had for 48 years now. Red with Black stripes! M21, L34, D88, and other goodies but am missing NK1 wheel I guess. Have complete perfect build sheet. Has the black SS wheel. We are 2nd owners but I never changed the wheel. Is it possible factory made a mistake? Or know anybody with a "perfect condition" NK1?
