  • Myelomalacia is a life threatening complication of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). This condition occurs in about 10-15% of patients that are unable to move their legs or feel their toes. This fatal condition manifests as a rapid and progressive necrosis (death) of the spinal cord.

so IVDD can lead up to Myelomalacia? my dog just has been recently diagnosed with IVDD and we cannot afford to do the surgery but I have seen videos of dogs with IVDD doing a medication plan with strict crate rest up to 4 to 6 weeks. would this be the best decision for my dog to (hopefully) recover?

Basically you just need 4 or 6 thousand dollars to get a MRI then another 10 to 20 for surgery.

MRIs are around $3000-$3500. Surgery ..price ranges vary depending on what it is.

Not sure where you live, but we just had surgery and it was expensive, but not near what you describe.

My dog is 15 years old and he diagnosed chronic kidney failure 1 month ago. Also he is walking or try to walk just like that. I am giving him vitamin B complex subcutaneous injection of course lots off other medicines and herbal supplements. Vitamin B1, B6 etc they are good for nerves as far as I know. Could you give me any advise about chronic kidney failure or this walk illness?

We treated a dog with success diagnosed with this disease , peeing on her own the first day, walking on her own in 14 days. Running and doing stairs in 19 days. There’s hope in the Alternative world of therapy.

Likely not myelomalacia. You may have that with IVDD, but not myelomalacia. Either way, happy for the pet.

Sort of. Both are progressive. But DM comes on slowly and progresses over months to become unable to walk and years before dying. Myelomalacia comes on suddenly and results in death within a week. Both are terrible but they are quite different.
