As You probably can hear the difference between these two is very narrow. I would say it is as narrow as between two pairs of the same model, which is negliable to say the least. Just choose the ones which are cheaper or the ones which have the features you need ;) Cheers!

Hi I am into purchase a 2.1 speaker system. I shortlisted Klipsch Promedia 2.1BT, Edifier S350DB. But after seeing this video I am again confused! I know these are 2.0 speakers but I notieced that the Edfier 1850DB has this sub woofer out option so if I add a nice Yamaha NS-SW100(10 inch 100 watt) or Yamaha NS-SW050 to it what will be the result. is it outperform the Klipsch Promedia 2.1BT and Edifier S350DB. Please help me out from this issue. by the way I am from India and in my area I cant find any help for this issue. My main preference is the sound!.I need well pronounced "treble" and sharp punch of "low".Hope you will understand my issues. thanks

Manoj Madhavan I'd say you're better off getting these (Edifier 1850db) and adding a sub if you have the money, but if you're on a tight budget get the pro media's.

1700BTS and 1855 bought and placed next to each other play completely differently! the main difference is the vocals, here the difference is surprisingly the largest. The human voice in 1700bts is clearer and more pleasant. In 1855, the human sound is "flattened", it sounds more artificial, but still nice and some people may like this format more. The bass in the 1700bts is 15% smaller and more compact and dynamic than in the 1855. After connecting the Klipsch subwoofer, I noticed that the 1700bts sends a slightly stronger signal to the external woofer. Bass control is similar. The 1000hz synthetic test shows noise in the 1855 that was not experienced in the 1700bts, regardless of the use of TOSLINK or RCA. I spent a lot of time choosing which speakers would go to the TV and which ones I would leave on the desk. I decided that the 1700bts would be a nicer set, while the 1855 would go to the living room next to the TV. I would like to add that the tests were carried out on the ASUS XONAR DGX card without additional equalizer improvements. I hope this will help someone choose :)

As a matter of background information, I'm currently using the R1280DB's, the R1700BT's, the R1850DB's, the R2000DB's, and the S350DB's (2.1 system). In each case, the sound quality go's up a notch or two as you climb the model ladder. Starting off with the R1280'DB's, you'll find that they are nice (especially for the money), but they are a bit boxy sounding on some material. When you then jump to the 1700BT speakers, the sound becomes a bit more open (and yes, just a tad brighter if you want to use that term - but still nicely balanced). I've got several DAC's (that I switch back and forth via a switcher) and you should hear the unbelievable high-end sounds coming out of the R1700BT's when compared with a DAC like the iFi ZenDAC - just remarkable and breath-taking. - and same scenario with the R1850DB's, but even more so.
Now if you jump up to the RR1850DB's, you will begin to really notice a difference as the speakers are even more dynamic, have more bass and are even more open - more so than "next step up" R2000DB's above them. The Edifier line of speakers are surprisingly superb for the money and if you are careful with your other gear and accessories (such as using upgraded RCA cables, a great DAC, upgraded USB cables to connect to a PC for instance, etc.), the Edifiers then become audiophile quality transducers to be sure.
The only issue I have with the majority of Edifier speakers is that they use these old fashioned PC type of cables to connect the speakers and they are almost impossible to find anywhere if you desire shorter lengths (or upgraded audiophile quality versions). And the lengths of these cables are ridiculous - I believe Edifier provides you with 15-16 foot lengths. Since many of us these Edifier speakers are often used in a near-field environment by our desktop PC's (or laptops), having that long of a cumbersome PC style of speaker cable is ridiculous. Both the R1700BT's and the R1850DB's use the same type of 4-pin cable. I actually found a vendor on eBay that sells 53" versions of these cables - which comes to around 4.5 feet, which is ideal for a PC setup. Here is the direct link to that cable. I've already ordered 3 sets of these cables - they are quality using belden cable. The link is (just cut in paste if the link doesn't allow you to click on it):
    www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-MOLEX-4-Pin-53-High-Quality-Speaker-Cable-for-Edifier-R1700BT-R1850DB/333630116398?epid=1953258580&hash=item4dade7922e:g:JlUAAOSwB4Je7QyY
Only the 1280DB's allow for conventional speaker wire to be used. and I use a better grade 14 gauge variety. On all of the others they use either 4-pin or 5-pin old fashioned DIN cables - which are almost impossible to find anywhere. However, I've managed to crack the code and I've had Blue Jeans Cables map out these cables and they made me some nice audiophile versions of these cables (5-pin) for the R2000DB and the R350's and they sound wonderful.
    Have a great day!

Hey there! Thanks so much for your detailed reply. Just wanted to know what are your thoughts on the Edifier E25HD Luna Eclipse compared to the R1700BT and the R2000DB? When I was studying abroad a few years back I managed to pick up the R1280DBs for cheap and they served me well, but I had to resell them once I moved back. Now, I'm facing a dilemma on which speakers to upgrade to as I know for a fact that R1700BTs are much better than my previous R1280DB, and the pricing right now is just right. But I'm wondering if I should fork out a bit extra for the Luna Eclipse E25HD or the R2000DB (both priced almost the same, but the R1700BT are much cheaper than these)?

    • @MrBenherrmann
      @MrBenherrmann 4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

@@arieltakom Great hearing from you! OK - where to begin:
      1. As I mentioned, with each upgrade, you begin to notice improvements in the sound chain - it's a given - but there are a few Edifiers that null and void that assumption. One of them is the diminutive e10 that looks like something from outer space. That small speaker has imaging capabilities that shock you. Yes, it has a smallish 3" woofer, along with a passive radiator, but the balance is really nice.
      2. That brings me to the e25HD - a speaker that I've been eyeing also. From what I've seen and heard, it is a superb sounding speaker also - but I would use it in situations/scenarios where space is of a premium. In each instance - from the R1280's all the way up the chain (remember, the e10 and e25 is part of the computer line), the bass is superior due to larger volumes in the enclosures and larger woofers.
      3. Two speakers I highly recommend is both the R1700BT and R1850DB - and they are sized almost the same. If you are considering between these two, I'd opt for the R1850DB because I noticed an improvement in the overall audio - subtle, but noticeable to trained ears.
      4. The R2000DB's begin to put you in a bigger league with a larger 5" woofer, giving you better bass capabilities, and it has a somewhat larger and heavier cabinet. As I mentioned, I have all of these speakers - but not the e25 - because at this point, I don't need the e25.
      So my suggestion would be:
If you are just thinking a incremental upgrade due to price factors, get the R1700BT. If you can afford $25 - $50 more, strongly consider the R1850's. And if you can go a bit higher, the R2000DB's will give you quite a bit more.
Decisions, decisions, decisions - don't ya hate that!!!! In all cases though, whatever Edifier speaker you settle on, rest assured that if you do everything right, meaning upgrading the connecting cables (RCA's), using a DAC (this results in the biggest improvements) - rather than just plugging a cable into a sound card - you will have a huge smile on your face as you kick back and listen. DAC's are all the rage now-a-days, and DAC's that once cost as much as $5000 just 5 years ago, are now in the pricepoint of $70 to $150 - can you believe that.
And finally - I have found the Edifier line of speakers to be exceptionally reliable and all the ones I own have never had problems, functioning perfectly right out of the box.
      Ben

      @arieltakom 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@MrBenherrmann Hey Ben! Thank you so much for taking your time to write out a very detailed reply and for your suggestions. I really appreciate that!
I'd just like to point out that I'm from outside the US (Malaysia, to be specific), and from browsing the online shopping page here, my upgrade choices would be the R1700BT (about $112), the E25 Luna Eclipse ($175), and the R2000DB ($187). Unfortunately, there are no more stocks for the R1850DB that you suggested.
Judging from this Digital Stereophony channel, I'd personally say the R1850DBs are more or less the same with the E25, except that in terms of clarity and 'musicality', if you will, the R1850DBs are certainly better, while the E25 has better, fuller low-ends, and as it is smaller in size, has a minimalistic feel to it and would certainly cost less desk space for me.
And seeing as the price difference is not that much, I'm confused as to whether I should just get the R2000DBs instead of the E25 since they're obviously much, much better overall. As you said, choices choices. Sigh..
Anyway, (if you don't mind) since you mentioned about budget DACs, can you recommend any good entry level DACs? I might consider going the R1700BT+DAC as it'll be more cost efficient for me that way.
Thanks once again, Ben! And I hope you stay safe during these unusual times.
      - Ariel

@@arieltakom Actually the 1850 has much better (deeper) bass extension than the e25 - by a long shot. OK now on to the DAC scenario. You can spend far less than $100 USD and get one of the following to begin with - those being:
      FX-Audio DAC-X6 (Chinese made)
      or the...
      SABAJ D3 (Chinese made)
      or the...
Schiit Modi 3 (US made - California, and yes, the name is "Schiit," and they love to advertise along the lines of , "Boy, do we have some great Schiit to show you). I love their products - very dynamic and clean sounding.
Another one - around $129 USD is the new Soundavo HP-DAC1.
All of these were found on Amazon US, so I don't know if Amazon in your area carries them.
By the way, I was originally born in Germany and we emigrated to the US in the mid 1950's.

Hello Bernd Herrmann can you please tell me your opinion about which is the best between Edifier R2000DB and R1850DB with the sub, whether from Edifier or another brand.
Personally I mainly listen to music at home at night at low volumes but I like the presence of the bass.
Are the R2000DB sufficient for this purpose?
Or I have to keep the option with subwoofer:
I currently have a Logitech Z 680 system working with only 2 speakers and the subwwofer and I am satisfied but I want to improve the bass that are too boomy (even at the minimum...!!!)
And thanks in advance for your explanation about Edifier loudspeakers.
I am from Portugal and there are no stores to hear the different proposals of this brand.
There is almost no one selling this brand around here. !!!!
And thanks also for the excellent comparisons to
      Digital Stereophony.
My choice would be the S1000db but they are very expensive for my budget at the moment.

This video and all of the other comparisons are fantastic. Just a word of caution to those interested... both of these speakers use a proprietary speaker cable to connect the L & R speakers. Amazon description states a 16ft/5m cable is included, though some Q&A responses say 8ft. Sadly, I need more than 16ft, which will be another $50+ purchase from Edifier online store.
Probably doesn't affect 99% of people, but I was literally about to pull the trigger on the purchase for my garage until I saw that...

The people saying here that the 1850 is just a sub out version of the 1700 and sound the same are wrong. You either have wet ears or your equipment isnt up to par. The 1850 clearly has a wider soundstage, and separation between instruments are clearer. The highs are also not as jarring as the as the 1700, which can sometimes lead to hollowness and boxiness in the upper regions. Also, bass on the 1850 is more mellow as its meant to go with a sub, they tuned the 1700 to be a little more prominent in the bass department. Frequency response charts would show these. The 1700 is known for its harsh treble and scooped lower mids, the 1850 somewhat rectifies this by a bit by making it sound more balanced and less V shaped. Anything scooped will nearly always give an impression of false clarity but it wont fool trained ears. The 1700 also has that cheap boxed up hollow hissy treble, the 1850 has that under control, listen at 10:40 onwards to spot this. 1850 is the way to go, even better the 1855.

@@hodongkang6511 i understand you perfectly... :) yes, the 1700 has a sibilance problem, the 1855 too but not as much. Way lower on the 1855. Sibilance lies mostly in the 5khz - 10khz range, especially in the 6khz - 8khz range.
What you can do is try to make the 1700 as flat as possible with the tone controls. After looking at the frequency response chart of the 1700 and what the tone controls do, -3 treble and -4 bass (you can try -2 treble and -3 bass too) will make it as flat as it will possibly go with the tone controls. As for the R1850 they sound more narrow and the bass kinda tinded out the details to everything else. Vocals also sounded a bit louder... I really want the R1700BT but there's is no optical in and R1850 does. I really don't know what to do at this point.

Appreciate the review, DSAUDIO. Personally, there is a slight difference in the mids. Both sounds great, I think buyers should just choose it as a 'taste preference' thing.
As a guitarist, these 2 speakers would be akin to comparing a Vox guitar amplifier (known for it's mids) , and a Fender (known for it's scooped -ids) guitar amplifier's sound.
    The R1850DB is the Vox , the R1700BT is the Fender . : )
I went for the R1850DB for my living room's entertainment speakers. 😁

Yester I got the R1855DB which I suppose a just R1850DB with improved remote, Bluetooth 5 and I am OK with the speakers for the most part. I used to have for short time R1600TIII ( should be a lite version of R1700BT) which for some reason I remember had a bit better highs and mids. Is it normal for these speaker to make a popping noise when you turn them on ? I remember I had similar small issue with the previous Edifiers, it's not a bit deal at all, just want to know if it's normal.

I'm not an audiophile, so excuse my bad explanation, but I feel like there's better separation between mod and low range sounds on the 1700 compared to the 1850. The 1850 just seems a little too boomy on the bass, and it drowns out the other ranges.

I believe these have a pretty substantial peak in the high range and the low mids upper bass sounds boomy / oversaturated / colored / boxy. Swan mkiii, I believe, are better than any edifiers.

They're $200 on amazon right now. So if I decide to add a sub I'll only be in it about $260 for one hell of a 2.1 setup for my PC. Here i am once again, got a question for you. I might be able to sell my current Microlab Solo 6C (New) for about 150 euros, the reason for selling them is their size, i've been living with them for the last 4 years or so, i love them, but they're big, too big for a computer use. My target would be the S350DB but for now i wouldn't be able to reach that price tag, therefore i have to get something cheaper. Logitech isn't on my list although their Z623 model is within my range at about 160 euros. I know i'd get a reduction in sound definition and quality, but i'd also get a smaller footprint satellites with the addition of a loud subwoofer that i might or might not enjoy (not into boomy bass). So if i want something small and powerful, logitech checks the marks for that. If i want audio quality, i'd probably have to revert to use an EQ and squeeze everything i can out from it.
Would i be better off going for a R1850DB instead, and if i ever want a subwoofer, just add one to the sub out of the r1850db? In the end, getting a decent subwoofer to the r1850db might actually give a better sound quality than the s350db, or am i mistaken? Thanks!

R1855db/1850 have only sbc bt codec, Amplifier TAS 5707, Dont have subsonic filter on sub out, Sub out port - 0-100 hz, r1855db when connecting a subwoofer does not cut the signal on the woofer of the speakers themselves, 70w rms. R1700bts have sbc, aptx, aptx hd codec (aptx hd working 24 bit), Have sub sonic filter, Sub out port up to 2 khz. Amplifier TAS5805, 66w rms, 1700bts, when connecting a subwoofer, slightly unloads the woofers of the speakers themselves, thereby creating a more even frequency response and the bass controls on the speaker affect the subwoofer output port.

Hi, If I get the r1700BT is there any way of connecting them to my AMP? Because right now I have a JVC VN-300 AMP (with an EQ) and two pretty good and medium-big sized speakers. It sounds very good to me and I use it for gaming and listening to music. Btw the AMP has a speaker wire output. Or do you know a different set of speakers (passive) that I can hook up to my AMP. I want to be able to put them on my desk, I have a black/white/RGB themed setup. Or could I take an output from the active speakers (r1700BT for example) and connect that to my AMP?. Do you think the r1700BT sounds good?
I know, I have a lot of questions but all I want is some speakers I can put on my desk that sound very good (my default speakers have a great bass already) but I can not find the perfect speakers. Maybe some speakers that will compliment my current rig? But if I can connect the r1700BT to my AMP it would be great because then I always have the option to hook them up to my TV (at the other side of my bedroom).
    Thanks

    • @DSAUDIOreview
      @DSAUDIOreview  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think that R1700BT sounds very good when we consider the price. Regarding connection with Your JVC amp, I am afraid there is no way to connect it with R1700BT, as Edifier is an active system that accepts only low level signal (I may be wrong about it though). You actually can connect R1700BT to Your TV without external amp (it has amps built in). There is also no way to connect Your amp to R1700BT without tearing the speakers apart. I do not deal with passive speakers so I will not give You any revcommendations in this area.
