I have the subwoofer Edifier T5, with and without it made a lot of difference, In short, a must have to utilize the "sub out" if you own this pair R1855DB.
Did you experience any issues with low sound playing? I am asking you this due to the auto-standby feature in the T5 that power off the subwoofer automatically after 5 minutes. Someone reported that on the reviews in Amazon.They say that they have to increase the volume to turn the subwoofer back on. Thanks
@@vincat84 T5 served me well in low frequency, didn't experience any distortion while playing low bass frequency in Billie Eilish tracks i.e. Bad Guy.

I am impressed by the audio produced out of this though I am a world-class hi end speaker designer!! I know that sounds a bit funny 😃 true though.. Which microphone are you using?
We do calibration with some high end stuff but yours looks a bit economic set up but gives a good outcome..

Thanks for the interesting video. On the German Amazon site I read a customer review that deals critically with the subwoofer connection and it was complained that the signal sent to the subwoofer was too weak and even if the volume on the subwoofer was 100% it was still too quiet . The customer used a Saxx DS 10 Evo as a subwoofer, which I don't know myself. In this video I found the sound with the subwoofer quite convincing. How was the volume set on the subwoofer, i.e. was there still room for improvement? Thank you.
Thank you for your thoughts. I don't know why some are facing issues.... I only used a basic subwoofer using an amplifier board that needed a sub in connection and it worked just fine... In fact with a better sub the effects would have been considerbly better.
make sure to sync the output phase of the main speakers with the sub so that it will sound louder.
Absolutely, I reversed the polarity and it sounded a lot better thank you :)

I think I liked it better without the sub... It seemed to add more hum than thump.
Maybe it's the recording 😊 but in reality world the sub does fill the room with bass 🔊

Some posts in reddit complain that output for sub is to "weak" . Did you have any sorta of problem?

I have a few questions: Is the sub out a line out or a low-pass out and is it volume controlled from the remote or is it 100% all the time? These factors will decide which sub I buy. Does these speakers improve the mid and high frequencies (by disconnecting the bass) while using the sub out port connected to the subwoofer?
By the way. I to plugged the R1855db to my old E3100 (2.1 set without its own speakers) edifier subwoofer to the common RCA left right ports. Of course the subwoofer performance was not the best but it worked. However, the speakers were still playing the low frequencies (bass sound) sounds . Could it be that in this case the low pass didn t work as I din't use the right subwoofer for this case? Thanks,
Nope.... these use high quality bi amps that independently drive the tweeters and the woofers... so it show be the same

I have an R1700BTs and I connected the Sub Out output to the auxiliary input of a Panasonic SC UA7 tower with a stereo cable. The basses in the Edifier are canceled with the cable connected which is normal, but they are heard at a very low volume in the tower even when the volume control is turned up to the maximum.
That could be happening? That Sub Out output is only compatible with some types of subwoofer? Thanks!

It's been an year since this review, do you still think Edifier R1855DB with combo of a subwoofer - Yamaha NS SW - 100 or Yamaha Subwoofer NS-SW050 works fine or shall I look for something else?
If Edifier R1855DB is till decent enough, shall I go with Yamaha NS SW - 100 or NS-SW050, the difference is or around INR 10K between these subs.
Dear Manmeet, Subwoofer is a one time buy especially if you go with that SW 100 it's definitely going to help if you like deeper bass at lower volumes. The 50 may be slightly smaller still not a bad buy. End of the day if your a bass lower go for that extra 10k 😊

Volume know is digital... bass and treble are not...

I have these speakers. They are really very good on their own. I wouldn’t bother adding a sub woofer. There’s no need.
In fact, if I was going to do anything at all, I might change the speakers, for the upgraded Edifier S1000DB model…

As mentioned.... a newer remote and Bluetooth 5

What connection did you use for sub? sub out or line in?, if using Sub out on these stereo, it's will disable bass on that and you need to test without subout connection.
I was using sub out and it's a separate line... Does not affect speaker performance
Should I use a 8 or 10 inch sub?

Thank you. Both are almost the same... the 1855 DB as you see in the video had a newer remote and Bluetooth 5.0. Basically minor circuitarty upgrades that's it

Yes .. right.. but this is only an amp to power the passive sub... not exactly preamp.

Depends on the room size.... 82 Watts is good room filling sound for aboit 120 sq ft of space .... Adding a sub just elevates the bass and lows... S3000s are much bigger and will provide a big boost in all frequencies for larger rooms and ofcourse better components will make it sound richer

It's the thud made by the cheap subwoofer amp... not the Edifier speakers

Personally feel this is ... I don't prefer bright speakers which the 1700 are... the 1850s are warmer sounding

Please check the compatibility of the subwoofer with the owners manual or your Subwoofer dealer ... The only thing I can tell you is that the output is a 3.5 mm jack the other end of the cable goes to your Subwoofer and that can be anything from a 3.5 mm or an RCA etc so buy accordingly

I recently bought the Edifier R1855DB and I'm surprised by its tonal broadness and transparency; especially for that size. I suspect there's some undocumented DSPing going on :) at least they don't sound "analogue". If thats the case this is a little bit of a downer, but yeah, thats the way it is today. And if so, I'm wondering about the line in connections: Are they analogue or DSP'd also???
Surely there's Some DSP going on... That's why they provide the bass and treble adjustments
@@rtechreviews well actually back in the days B/T and equalizers were build completely analog and their existence alone would not indicate there's digital sound processing^^. I'm just surprised no review mentions the existence of DSP here, which kinda explains why they sound so pleasing. HiFi ist gone I guess...^^

@@Liberation_from_the_matrix definitely missing a whole lot of lower frequency information. All bookshelves need a sub, regardless what they claim. Even a lot of floorstanders require a sub to play the full spectrum.

True.. you need to pick up the amp... its quite cheap to be honest.. 12 USD you can get it
so the connecting model is: r1855 + sub => AMP => audio source? I have both TV and laptop in my bedroom so prefer wireless connecting than ton of wires
@@ucNguyen-fd1yv you will have to use BlueTooth for the Audio source ... essentially Audio Source | via Bluetooth> R1855DB - Sub out > Amp > Subwoofer

Thank you for watching! It's a good sub for a small room, if you can stretch please go for the sw200 for deeper bass

For the sw200 model, I think I will stay behind, the reason is that I think even the sw100 is enough for the neighbors to be disturbed :D I even thought of the sw 050 model just for this reason, but because I care about the bass depth, I decided on the sw100 model, which goes down to 25 Hz. I think sw200 can go down to 28 hz, but it's more powerful than sw100. I think sw100 would be the ideal one for me.
