I've bought your Summer Release blend and I can't wait to get it on the ground! I'm trying my best to be patient and not plant it too early. Here in East TN, pollen is prevalent now and trees are budding and showing their leaves finally.

Rye and clover from last season starting to pop the one thing I hate is spraying herbicides too kill the weeds and good vegetation with it but it’s necessary in order to get the spring/summer planting of buckwheat, oats and crimson clover going all the biomass, nitrogen going into my soil to add organic matter in hopes for my fall plot consisting of a blend of brassica/ med red clover on one side of my plot and peas,beans,oats and later on top dress 200 pounds of rye grain to the green or cereal side of plot, I’ve been on quite a few of these channels and sure am glad I found you ! You make the most sense too me,so thank you for the information you put out and of Happy Easter

I hunt Talbot county and have been following Grant for years and even though I hunt a timber lease just the information I've gained from him and his guys I try to use in my area that I hunt it has made a huge difference over the last couple years. When I get back to camp and hear some other guys complaining about not seeing deer I just show photos on my phone of deer I saw and let my trail cam pictures speak for themselves. Grant has definitely figured it out and has proven you don't need thousands of acres of private property to grow good deer or turkey or whatever. Just manage for you want and in a few years you can have it!!
Grant how do I get the cereal grains in control now?? They are bolting and producing grain heads. The clover in with it is lush and green. I don't have a roller kremper. My options are spray or cut it. I want to drill some beans, sunflowers, buckwheat etc into the stands for a summer plot.
Calvin - you can spray with glyphosate. Rolling only works if you wait till the cereal grain heads are almost ripe - late during the dough stage where the seed is fully formed but not hard yet. Rolling won't terminate plants that aren't producing seeds in the dough stage.
Craig - The proof is in the pudding! We and several other food plot farmers have had excellent results with quality blends that include cereal rains and brassicas. That proof is so common it's silly to hint otherwise.

In other words, I need to get my plots to this system, however, would like some more info on how to take a reclaimed mine field or CRP field from start to finish where I go from weeds to plot, using Buffalo system on healthy plots?
Ryan - Thanks for the kind words! Each farm is unique and the first steps will be based on how smooth the land is (can a no till plant it), what weeds or tree samplings are currently growing in the field, etc. Many CRP fields only require a burndown herbicide and no tilling! If the area has been in CRP for years, the soil should be in good shape!

Wayne - Quality blends like the Fall Release can be planted annually. Blends improve the soil's health. It isn't good for the soil's health to plant the same monoculture (species) year after year in the same place.
I do use the broadcast technique frequently in small plots and good crops results if there's good seed to soil contact and it rains soon after the seeds were broadcast.
I know this has nothing to do with the video but I think you should do more videos on the importance of trapping to support turkey populations. The rapid decline of turkeys in missouri has a young 20 year old man like myself thinking that we wont have turkeys in the later part of my life.

Other than chicory what would you consider a forb? Would you try planting milo/ sorghum/ millet into white Dutch clover being it is so short?
Travis - forbs are flowering, non grassy plants. Sunflowers and buckwheat are great examples of forbs.

Tony - Depending in the weather each spring there, probably late March or early April.
Do you have any concerns planting brassicas in the same plot year after year? I’m assuming no concern as long as you are doing it as part of a blend?
I don't have any concerns about using brassicas as part of a diverse blend for years in a row! Good blends are very good for the soil!

I notice sometimes you broadcast instead of drill, do most seeds come up this way as long as they're touching the soil and before a rain?
