I've had a Moog One for almost 2 years and I still am amazed by it and still come back to these videos. Anytime I am tempted to buy another analog poly I just have to watch this or sit down at my One and I lose interest in everything else.
It's clear to me that this was created with music in mind. Sounds that make our ears happy. For artists to elicit emotions on. Both technical artists and sound designers as well as pure music artists. I get it, Moog is a company that has to earn a profit. I say with the kind of products they make, like this and others that is 100% OK by me. A premium product is worth a premium price. Period.
Moog not only started it all, but they way they innovate the future of synths is powerful. I'm lucky to have lived in Upstate NY where they are so plentiful, and can't wait for the day that I am well off enough to own one of these beasts.
I can only aspire to afford this, but I really appreciate how well the complexity of this instrument was communicated. And of course, it sounds amazing.
the sound has so much girth, harmonic depth... the prophet 6 is very thin sounding. it has too much digital control. this moog is the polysynth i’ve wanted. also love the shout out to Nick Batt @sonicstate hope he’s watching 😀
Gotta say you all have created a very appealing instrument, gut level reaction (as a guitar player) is that it is worth every penny and is much better value than say a high-end Les Paul
Mind blowing possibilities. 16 voices, 3 parts and synthesised sounds we won't have heard before from a stand alone synth...I'd say it's worth the money.
The sound of this leaves the Prophet X and Waldorf Quantum in it's rear view mirror. I thought that they were both too expensive. When I heard about this my first thought was "How am I going to raise the funds to buy this without a payment plan?" After hearing it now I am sold on it even more
I can tell that this synth will take years to explore and find out the majority of it's capabilities. That still won't hamper using the functions that initially work for the user but the learning by exploring is where the fun will be over the time of using it
i have not played the X or waldorf, but from what i have wieved and listen to on YT the waldorf does not compute with me at all. The X might sound great, but its just another "soft synth" I have A matrixbrute, MFB dominion 1, Grandmother ++ and i enjoy them more than anything. Its something about analog and organic feel and they all sound different :)
I was drooling over the Prophet X but feeling the pain of the price. Interestingly enough, after hearing the sounds of the one the pain of not having it was worse than the price.
In a store there was the quantum and playing it was amazing, i was aiming to take the Iridium as is nice and small that’s why I wanted to try it, is very powerful and for a while I enjoyed it quite a lot, next to me there was a the Moog one, once I sit down on the Moog I played some presets and moved to Init, and in about 5 minuts I was going totally nuts and having fun, and once there was this amazing sound I watched the screen to see if I changed the init to a preset by mistake.. but I was on init and I was shocked and I stood there for 5 minutes staring at the machine as if I saw some spirit
It’s only poetic justice that Amos does the M1 demo. The genius ,the engineer, and the synth scientist. Moog lives the dream of their founder Dr. Robert Moog to keep raising the bar. 👍👍
Yeah holy shit.... this thing is just unreal. A polysynth to rule them all. The moniker "One" is indeed appropriate and not at all over-hyped. When he did the unison patch at the end it blew my mind...
Damn...that's a lot of "wow"...including the "wow" of the price. But at least now the price is bit more understandable. Synth or that big family vacation next year? Oh well...the kids will understand. Especially knowing they'll likely inherit the "One" one day.
ProckGnosis : you also have to see the price as getting 8 or 16 moog mono synths... Certainly not unreasonable for that class of instrument and I'm glad to see them not just sticking to the past but also innovating.
@@MarcWeertsMusic Yeah, that's why I stated "at least now the price is a bit more understandable". It packages a lot of capabilities that currently almost no other modern polysynth synth could match (except maybe a Schmidt). It just seems hard to imagine that "4 times the price equals 4 times the synth" when considering something like a Prophet Rev 2. But after playing and diving in to it, who knows? It might easily convince me it's entirely worth the price.
They would sell more if they advertise that the box makes a great shelter for you to camp out in the backyard once the other half sees the bill. Seriously impressive though.
Please, I need your help & a reply ASAP. I just got my Moog One about 2 weeks ago & I notice a very audible hiss & high pitched hum noise coming through both headphones outputs & main outputs. (it sounds totally different than hum sounded by grounding issues ) The noise starts to become very noticeable at around 40% to 50% volume level, (& increases the higher the volume knob is turned up) and seems to be loudest on patches/programs that use a lot of internal effects processing. I tried multiple electrical outlets, extension cords, surge protectors, etc, and the noise persists. I don't know if this is common for the Moog One, or it I received a faulty unit. (my Moog arrived with a missing knob, but you promptly sent one to me) It's literally the loudest synth I've ever heard, by far. (& I own over 40) It's much louder than any of my 1980s digital/analog hybrid synths. The noise is so loud, I don't see how I could possible use it in a recording. I expected better from an $8,000 synth. What should I do? Please help me.
The fan is annoying but its quiet enough to not be much of an issue. As an owner of a Juno 106, it sounds pretty similar yet a lot more routing options.
Hey Moog I watched the LFO and the Quick Mod Assignment sections and I still have a question I'm hoping you can help clarify: when you hit press the destination button on an LFO, and you tweak a param such as the filter cutoff, what do these percentages (-100% - 100) do? Also on the bottom of the same screen, what do the two amount parameters and transform parameter mean?
Wow!!! What an amazing synth architecture! This completely blows away anything in the analog poly synth space that came before it such as the Prophets, Oberheims, Rolands, etc. Well worth 8-grand for the 16-voice version for this kind of revolutionary technology. I'm so glad Moog took this gamble and created a paradigm shift in the analog synth space. This is a very historic synth!!! How fitting that Moog created this kind of polyphonic modular synth.
Steve Hampton Yea, I guess it’s not for everybody it looks like a land yacht too big and clunky, same reason I’m not into the matrix brute, which I do think is priced correctly.
This is a flagship synth not a boutique mini. This is the only "analog" synth I know of with the power to infinitely shape a waveform on the oscillators, shape modulation the LFOs, It's all about routing, routing and more routing. A modular synth with a conventional UI. Then there's the ability to use a ladder filter and a SVF either in series or parallel. Those are all soft synth features in a hardware package. Nothing like it anywhere, really.
I'm impressed, of course, as many of you. But I cannot understand why even at this price point they didn't design the instrument to implement led encoders like the Nord Lead 3, the same Moog LPhatty, or - as in a more recent instrument - the yamaha montage. Being a preset, tri-timbral and high-end instrument, why not making the moog one a proper and fully controllable performance instrument?

sine wave oscillators these days

What about a LP filtered triangle wave?
Sam Beard i’m thinking there must be a way. the LFO triangle can be shaped to sine. and there’s always a resonating filter if desperate...
What is the internal resolution (or range) of modulation matrix parameters? How precise values can be set?
