I respect the devs of Gran Turismo because they seem like they actually put in the effort and care about making the game better rather than just releasing a new game.
Or using the term "built from the ground up" cough, cough T10 studio
This is what I love about Japanese game developers.
@@kylebeach2316i was about to say that lol.:D
@@kylebeach2316Yeah T10 nowadays is shadow of himself
@@kylebeach2316 Forza developers also capture the raw car audio in the same way. The physics were in fact built from the ground up for the latest FM
The sound design in GT7 is leaps above those old screeching tyre days where every cornering car sounded the same... not that long ago in the series either!
Thats true, however still far away from perfekt/real . Still work to do for GT8
@@Kazuya720 I really hope they improve it a lot in GT8. I hope it is going to be as wild and as powerful as real sounds.
The screeching tire sounds they use for race cars is that of road cars. Because ,you can hear the syping as it warbles. Pretty unrealistic

This is largely in part thanks to them hiring an ex Forza sound guy.
They nailed the 3D sound so much, driving the LFA on Nordschleife is so impressive.
Gt on ps5 also has ray traced audio so that helps the immersion a lot, you can hear the difference between ps4 and ps5 quite clear
@@PedroHenriquePS00000ohhh yeah it’s amazing

When you crank it up on a big home theater it sounds amazeballz.
have you tried with bass shakers connected to the monitor's/TV's headphone jack?! it makes you feel the engine revving like in a real car. It is so damn good.
@@sonyx5332 Try watching some binaural recordings of cars on youtube, this is my favourite one: /watch?v=tpuAw5edDV4 . My neighbours next day thought I was testing engines inside the house when I tried it on my home theatre setup lmao.

I didn't know recording a car sound was so difficult. Respect.
Thanks GTPlanet for this vid. I find automotive sound recording interesting and have played around with it in real life. Gives so much insight into the GT7 sounds
as both a professional audio engineer and sound designer, as well as an avid GT7 player, this is just absolute heaven
I have two BST-1 bass shakers on my racing rig, one under the pedal's plate, the other under the seat and the bass shaker's amp connected to the monitor's headphone jack that I use with the PS5/PS4Pro/PS3. I previously had the bass shaker's amp connected to the laptop to use SimHub with GT7 and I wasn't even aware that these bass shakers would play any audio besides shaking/vibrating until I connected the bass shaker's amp to the monitor's headphone jack, changed one of my cars in GT7 where it started revving very loud through the bass shakers and making me feel the engine revving too. I was blown away by the revving sound of each car I changed going through the bass shakers and feeling the engine revving like in a real car to the point that I kept increasing the volume and changing my cars again lol. Good job Polyphony Digital sound engineers.
Fantastic video!! Thanks so much for taking the time to summarize and share the info!
Feel like so many TH-cam videos have a goal of getting views…. This was super helpful and informative.
A new knowledge to be sight, and this is so incredible, i never would've thought audio recording for automotive will be this deep, no wonder they not showing this to public like another daily video or vlog. Thanks GTPlanet
This was effing awesome. I'd like to see something like this for every aspect of Gran Turismo. Thanks for the effort of sharing.
As a sound nerd and a sim racer, this is a dream come true. Thanks so much for sharing this🙌
The attention to detail to all the sounds in GT7 is amazing. After playing both GT7 and FM8, FM8 is just feels like an afterthought.
You have extremely low standards for sound design and game quality if you think GT7’s sound design has “attention to detail”
FM8 is awful.
@@CrewExpendable2007 it does if you have high end audio system etc
my fave sound is after the race and you hear the engine cool down
i fell in love
that's the love for detail i wanna hear in all audio-related productions, including music
Kinda shows how far they've gone from the good old days of bringing different sounding hoovers to the office 😆
If they do current F1 they might need to dig out those hoovers again
they recorded the cars for gt5 kinda like this and they still ruined the sounds and made it sound like shit lol, still sounds kinda weird and fakeish in gt7 imo, especially when it comes to shifting gears, they really never seem to be able to get it right
what is a 'hoover' ion know what your on
They still sound like Hoovers so idk what you’re on.

@@r3cker744 It's long gone
@angelOcrisu I wouldn't say that judging by how slow they are. Do you honestly think they are not going to drip feed the newest gt3 cars in GT8? Right now our best bet is a 488 GT3 and the 991.2 GT3R for gt7 and the 296 and 992 for gt8💀
488 GT3 is not coming to GT7. Unlikely the 296 GT3 will either. PD don't care about adding race cars. Just a road car collection game.

For the devs of gt7; i can hear your dedication in audio engineering. I play on a super high end yamaha stereo set, as3000 +f901, and the high quality audio content is really noticeable.
Well this is absurdly awesome
GT7 have beautiful sound! I really enjoy engine sounds while driving. 3D sound in VR is something else.
Now that's a music to the ears from a realistic simulator race
such a convoluted setup only to have blender sounding car in the finished product. Yay! :D
Think you’re getting confused with Forza there, chap
amazing!
That’s actually really cool
What a great job that would be!
What do they do about cars that pipe in synthetic engine sounds into the cockpit?
Attention to detail truly a great game visually excellent
This is amazing.
Engine sounds are really important to me in racing games, it just makes them feel so much more satisfying for whatever reason. It wasn't as big of a deal in the OG Xbox/PS2 era because games just weren't advanced enough in general but on PS3 the GT5 sounds just started to feel really off considering how much better Forza sounded for example. Really glad Polyphony put some effort into the sounds finally
whats the name of the software they use? AES? Couldnt find it online
really cool ... !!!
Another thing i am wondering is the difference between garage sounds and in game sounds. I believe the garage ones are actual recordings? Because they sound so different and much better.
I think for those they literally just use a recording since it's only a startup and a few revs. No further computer help needed. Or not much help anyways
@@masonmethot3186 I guess so. I hope in game idle and revving sounds also sound as good in GT8
I was wondering who noticed that too. I'm making a video soon, comparing garage sounds to racing sounds, like LFA sounds vastly different.
@@Sylsomnia22 yeah i hope in game sounds can be as good as the garage ones in the next game
Maybe i need to visit those places
Forza has been rough throughout FH3 and FH4 but i feel like with FH5 and the addition of intake noise that varies depending on the filter / intake system or the different levels of exhausts you can fit definitely improved the sounds. Rotarys and small displacement 4 cylinders dont sound like mosquitos and the inline 6 and V8 engines have gotten a lot beefier. I hope they take it even further with FH6 and use the same principles as GT does. It definitely pays off.
Agree but they ruined turbo dynamics. Turbos will purge at any rpm/throttle input
Real interesting, i was just thinking about sounds in GT7 the other day 👌.
I was thinking about that too for weeks lol, I actually gonna make a video soon, comparing garage vs race sound, like the LFA sound vastly different.

Now Forza is going to try to compete with sounds 😂😂😂
They gave up on this competition about 5 titles ago lol

@nathanm237 nah...sound wise the best gameplay laughable bad
FAR from it. One of the worst in terms of sound design
Dirt Rally 2 and ACC sound outstanding too!
The sound of slightly slipping tyre rubber in ACC is superb. I wish every game had similar audio quality.
They are both light years ahead of Gran Turismo in terms of sound design.
ACC is one of the few games that captures how loud real race cars are, I work in racing and it is deafening… ask me how I know.. loudly.
@@ricepony33 I think even ACC could be louder. Ive attended a few GT3 races last year and have a few to go to this year. The 992’s and Huracan’s in particular shatter your ear drums, especially if you catch them downshifting. I recorded audio of a 992 downshifting on a hairpin, it sounds like satan screaming at you, its intense! Gran Turismo does an absolutely pitiful job at recreating this, AC and ACC do it the best so far with sim titles like Raceroom just behind them.
Definitely, the even everything out for headphone users. The volume difference is massive.@@CrewExpendable2007
Any word on whether we’re getting that garage 56 Camaro in the game?
They've been recording the real cars sounds since gt2 with many videos made back in the day. When you changed camera view the entire sound spectrum/frequency altered to reflect the position of the camera
How did they do the lexus LFA
They get the sounds right, but it all lacks the rawness. It needs more squeeks, more bangs, more imperfect creaks, IT NEEDS MORE! The cars sound correct, but not correct enough if that makes sense?
Edit: After watching the video, it seems this is a symptom of the limitations of the audio engine. Hopefully sony can give more than a tuned-down jaguar cpu core for sound processing in the next Play Station
Yeah this is one of the many things ACC gets right. The incidental sounds.
PC2 is the real sim @@xenotone3284
It is not limitation because games like AC, ACC, Iracing, Project CARS, Automobilista and Dirt Rally sounds way better than GT.
@@murilohenrique2228 The video literally explains how it is a sound engine limitation. It handles sound completely different to those games.
@@ing8404 I dunno man sounds like skill issue
who remember the sound recording from Sococm Confrontation there was a video in the us version of the game. THey recorded it similar but with real weapons instead cars. To my knowledge no other gamestudio did that.

So cool
Thats a fancy vacuum cleaner
I'm an audio techician and i'd love to see the all presentation, someone know where to find it?
When so we get this 488 challenge in the game?
Lovely insight into how hard they try. Why then do the cars still sound like vacuum cleaners? Or how does a supercharged v8 and a turbo inline 6 still have similar noise? Reminds me of how Halo had fantastic depth of sound and that died off with every newer version.
Imaging having to record all the car sounds in all languages 😮
Also for recording a car engine sounds in GT Racing Movie: Car Racing Game Franchise like, for example: 3 Cylinder, 4 Cylinder, 5 Cylinder, 6 Cylinder/V6 and Flat 6 engine, V8 engine, V10 engine, V12 engine, and W16 engine for gas and diesel. All car sizes like, Sedan, Sports Cars, Sports Sedans, Race Cars, Minivans, Tuner Cars, Hatchbacks, Coupe Cars, Sportbacks, and Hypercars.
When you are in replay mode or some times in chase cam, the wind is way louder than the car. I don´t believe that is realistic, in that sense i would much rather have something similar to assetto, the chase cam and replay in ac sounds really raw and loud in certain cars, wich is something i feel like its missing in gt7, most cars sound feel muffled. Other than that, i think that they are doing an amazing job at the car sounds
Muffled, because no dynamic.
I'm surprised they aren't using 32bit recorders. I assume they have the best sound samples but the processing for it is still not perfect or rather not processed enough have the "BRUTAL CAR SOUNDS" tag.
so they can’t find a Minolta Toyota anywhere in Japan to record to put that in the game?
Yall doing better than FH5
This game seriously needs to be like flatout 2 with all the V8 sounds!
They finally got the sounds right after 20 odd years.
Not really. More like 75%, just listen to LFA in garage vs on the track.
They’re still far from right.
@@Sylsomnia22they nailed the lfa even during gameplay even better than ac with mods
@andreasmoller9798 LFA sounds okay, especially from slow acceleration, but listen to start up in garage VS on track idle rev, there's a huge difference.
Wheres the footage of the recordings?
nice
Would love to see how they recorded a vacuum cleaner for gt4 😅😂
Why do tires squeal in heavy rain..?
Ok now show us the vaccuum cleaners segment
Assetto Corsa raw sounds inside the cabin are much nicer for a very... physical experience. However, that does not detract from GT Sound, which is either way amazing. IDK, I have an audiophile rig, and when I play GT7 with loud volume and sit on the wheel, maaaan... the sense of presence from side to side and distance to other cars and so and so... it is brilliant. It is an extremely satisfying experience, so much so that is rewarding even if you are far from winning a race.
In which part it will be used...?
@@justrandomstuff84 It's likely... There's no dynamics. The images are also overedited, so they're sterile. It's not realistic.
Unfortunately, they don't understand that.
4:30 I wish they would add more notes. there isnt much variation in the engine notes. it is good but it could be so much better. I always knew it was a performance issue.
Yeah, I'm questioning why they use this AES system if it just increases CPU load, instead of sample recording or even a hybrid of both systems. Codemasters games and ACC have one of the best car sounds and I'm sure they use more recording samples.
Every car does sound different in gt7 and acc and wrc dosent have the car varity,of gt7
@@AKK5I They use this for VGTs, Lotus F1, and GT-R LMP1 since GT6. Now, they went around for other cars that PD don't have any access to the car or other cars with similar engine like the 488 shown.

So they won’t all sound like vacuum cleaners anymore?
imagine one of them microphones broke and they gotta redo the whole thing ☠️, that hard
This almost makes me want to pick it back up. Almost.
1:05 I just don't understand about this though, the sounds was pretty subpar until GT Sport
Right until we get something like Ange's Engine sound simulator ready for something like this
1:08 I feel almost guilty for blaming PD all the years that the cars in GT sounds like vakuum cleaner, when I see, that they even back than try to capture real car sound. It might be harsh, but I think that graphics wise we are very, very good, but sound wise, just ok.
Don't feel bad for blaming, having an expensive equipment is one thing, what you do with the audio files editing is another thing
Some of them still sound like it’s through a vacuum tho. Why is that? Like it sounds amazing on start up in the garage
because they just use generic sounds for driving. GT7 is still dissapointing in that regard
