  • Skip to around 7:50 to get to the crux of this video. This is a remake of an earlier video I thought too long and aimless. Turns out this one's even longer! Though this one may have a bit more continuity, I still can't seem to discard the chaff.

    As a 1/4 share Mooney (65 20C) owner I have not changed the oil yet. I’m legally an A&P and have not done much gen aviation work. Very informative. Thank you.

    Don’t forget the suction screen! If not every time, at least every other. Though we do every time at my shop

    Thanks for the video. Looks like a tip a lot of airplanes could use. Also, unless you're really trying to polish it don't worry about it. I think it's a good balance of hanger flying and education.

      Glad you found it useful, Michael! I’ll measure it next time I’m at the hangar but it’s long enough. 😉

    Mine is a 62 M20C. I installed a remote oil filter (Right cowl) and am happy with it. Keep my oil between 5-6 quarts for the same reasons. Looks like you’re missing a few doghouse sheet metal screws. My doghouse is the same so I know how that is. Do you have the fuel bladders or a wet wing?

      @boomerantics9586  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello John. I have a wet wing. I flew the ol’ bird up to Willmar, MN a number of years ago and had the tanks re-sealed at Weep No More so she’s tight again. Happy landings!

    Like the vid. Soooooo what's up with that stitch and glue boat up against the back wall?

    • @boomerantics9586
      @boomerantics9586  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, Just a Pilot, and thank you! The boat is a Pooduck skiff I’d started a number of years ago. Progress stalled, it went to the hangar for awhile and is now back in the garage although progress has been very slow. Here’s a link to its construction so far if you’re interested: th-cam.com/video/Z3-p3ynv9zI/w-d-xo.html Thanks again and happy landings!

      @@boomerantics9586 I used to be a boatbuilder so those kinds of things always catch my eye. Yeah, I found the video after I posted. Looks real nice and not stitch and glue. I've done a lot of scarfs with hand planes so I feel your pain.

      @@JustaPilot1 Funny enough, I used to fly professionally so, for me, aviation is old hat. On the other hand, I have volumes of books on boat designs, lofting and boat building. Obviously, I haven’t the discipline to see a single project through to completion but boat building is a fascinating topic to me. Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down!

    what did you use to shape the PVC

      Hello Luis. I used a bandsaw to rip the pipe in half along its length and sandpaper to chamfer the edges.

    You sell yourself short mate. Vintage aircraft maintenance is desperately needed since so many shops employ kids and don’t pass any of this gold on anymore. All too often you just get “you ought to replace or update” and at the same time they scream “sustainability”. It’s a joke.

    • @boomerantics9586
      @boomerantics9586  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, antzx6r! You make a good point. We see this this decline in “know how” not only in aviation but among all of the trades. Don’t even get me going on work ethics. Thanks again and have a dandy day!

      It isn’t necessarily the “kids” fault….gotta learn somehow.
