    I installed an Airtex interior in my Mooney last year. They have an option for additional seat foam to raise the seats. I went with that option and ended up shaving it down quite a bit to get my height where I wanted it. You could order just a seat kit which would not be too expensive and would give you a newer look to your interior. Looks like your interior is in pretty good shape. If you search TH-cam for Airtex interior and Mooney you can see a video of my plane with the recovered seats.

    Have you ever had any issues with the gas tank? Rust or breakdown?

    • @PilotFun101
      @PilotFun101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have not. But my tanks were sealed once already. Any wet tank over time will start to leak. Even if you have bladders and your plane is up there in age the bladders will also start to brake down. But they can always be fixed.

    Question. I know nothing about Mooney. I'm 6'4" and overweight. Would there be a Mooney model that would work for me?

    • @PilotFun101
      @PilotFun101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very good questions. Useful load on a C model is typically 900-1000. So when you add fuel at approx 6 pounds per gallen X's 52 =312. minus that from 900 = 588 left for people. This is of course all approx.

    • @jeromes5141
      @jeromes5141 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the M20E would fit you well with that extra 20🐎 power. As Chris said, you will be flying alone most the time. I'm 6'1" and the M20C is quite ok. If you have the estra money to spend, then you can look at the J model, but that's space you wont be using.

      I came across this too. The plane I'm looking into, when I 1st called and asked about it, they said "oh, it's a no nonsense plane, no damage history etc." When I went and looked through the logs, the plane had a wheel up landing and double the time advertised. This was good because we know that the plane has been flying but how did the miss such vital Information. Once the repair was done properly you should be good.

    I’m looking at my first plane. I know that I will buy one, so I will buy something before flight school. A friend suggested that I stay under 200 hp and no retractable gear. What do you think? My research keeps bringing me back to Mooney. Push rods over cables. Fuel burn/gph. I can’t find a down side. If I need to buy a 172 for a while, I will. But, I know that I will want a Mooney eventually.

    • @PilotFun101
      @PilotFun101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very good question. It can really go both ways. If you were going to rent to get you license I would say rent the cheapest plane. That’s what I did. I then bought a cheap Grumman AA1A to build up time but also did not have the money at the time to buy anything else that was low wing. If I was going to buy and I had the money I would get what I wanted to save the hassle. I would say stay under 200. Learning is a complex plane is like learning in anything else. Just remember to put the gear down by using GUMPS as your landing check list. Mooney’s are easy to fly. They are fast and very efficient. Just my thoughts.

    • @PilotFun101
      @PilotFun101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Ill try to do that. I just flew 3 of my friends to Ocean city on Sunday with zero issues. Myself and the my other friend are 6ft and the back passengers are approx 5.5 & 5.8 feet tall. I just move my seat up one more notch then I usually sit and so did the co pilot side. If you need more room the J model would also work. But again how many times do you really have 4 people at once. I usally have 4 approx 2x's a year. So the C works great for me.

      When I find my Mooney (I’m on the hunt right now) I think I might make a safety cable for the vent door, just in case. BTW, the bolt that connects the solid control wire to the vent door needs to clamp the yep remain free to rotate. If not, the bolt will bend the wire back and forth until it breaks like a paper clip. That might be why it broke the first time or maybe it was just old. Beautiful plane you’ve got there.

    I have a Mooney ovation 2 gx, I liked your vid but have a concern, removing your oil cap after flight is great, I also do this
    but my concern is leaving you plane heated all winter is like a moisture vacuum. Warm air holds more moisture that cold air. I have a phone switch that turns on my heater with a text message when needed. And please don't start that
    motor cycle in winter like so many do, and also don't cover that ac unit outside your home so moisture is trapped and your contact points corrode , Mn. Dave

      @@PilotFun101 Sorry but I would think it wound be worse leaving oil cap off while plugged in all winter, it MAY allow a moisture path. Remember warm air holds more moisture than cold. I built two aircraft and am an A&P, please do some research and don't leave it plugged in. I get mad at myself when I plug her in then cancel the flight cause i know i let moisture in, I must say I have never heard of anyone plugging it in all winter

    • @darrylday30
      @darrylday30 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you might be okay leaving the Tanis heater plugged in. The heater directly warms the metal in the engine. The metal surfaces in the engine won’t be as cold as the air around them and therefore less likely to cause moisture to condense out of the air and onto those metal surfaces. It would be the opposite of condensation forming on cold glass of water.
      An engine dehumidifier would be even better. I think Mike Busche of Savvy Aviation did a webinar on the topic.
      Way back when I used to maintain aircraft in the arctic, we left them plugged in all winter. Of course it was -40 and they flew every day so corrosion wasn’t an issue. We didn’t leave the oil caps off for two reasons: 1) we were afraid the pilots might forget to put them back on before flight (it happened) and 2) the breather pipe does the same job. BTW, so much moisture came out of the breather overnight that we’d have clear the frost out of the pipe with a stiff piece of wire before flight.
