The PK is meant for two-zone cooking. Sear them, then move them indirect. It does that pretty well though...
you must be famous?
😄 Anything but, StillwaterSailor. My name is Obscure Anonymity! Thanks and have a dandy day!
I am sure this is a dumb question, but why don't you just use more charcoal?
Not at all, Chris. The problem with more charcoal piled to one side for indirect cooking is that the ash from the charcoal at the top of the pile smothers the charcoal below and as the spaces in the charcoal fill with ash the charcoal at the top loses airflow and cools too. Stirring the coals to clear the ash raises to much ash which ends up on the food. I haven’t found a good solution using either lump charcoal or briquettes. I’ve resisted trying the expensive block charcoal but I have a feeling that it might be the best solution. Thanks and have a dandy day!
Why is the windless in the stern?
Hello William. Actually, the windlass is mounted at the bow. The boat does have a sizable anchor platform and pulpit which may give the appearance of a stern or boomkin. Thanks and have a dandy day!
@@boomerantics9586 actually you are wrong the windless is on the stern and the anchor is in the head.
U do this just for some little 100 views, sad lmao 🤣 when you could’ve actually explored there smh
You jumped from approaching Macanac Island be being high ashore. Did you anchor? Tie up as a slip? Encounter problems? I was anticipating the arrival activities and they somehow vaporized. Nice video. I've been to the island twice, over the bridge many times by car, pickup, and motorcycle, and under in a 56' motorsailer.
Thank you, John! We probably just didn’t think to turn on the camera or, if we did, felt that what we filmed was of no interest. No trouble as I recall and we tied up in a slip at the marina. I’ve never been over the bridge though we had an opportunity to walk it this Labor Day but left Mackinaw City early in the morning instead to avoid the security zone - but that’s a future video. 😉 Thanks again and have a dandy day!
bought a cabin at 9900 feet. Smoking there is miserable. Thanks for the advice!
Glad you found it useful, CRC PESCA! Enjoy that cabin!
Sad to see the summer end. BBQ time?thanks
We are too, Surfish. Yes, we’re out of BBQ so I’ll be firing up a pit very soon! Thanks and have a dandy day!
What a beautiful area.
It is! Though we’d heard how beautiful it is, we were still surprised at how nice it really was. Don’t know if I’d feel the same come winter though… 😄
Seens early to pull the boat . We always use frist Friday in May to frist Friday in October. Good luck
It is early, Bill, but our vacation is at its end. Fair winds!
@@boomerantics9586 I understand I have been lucky and only live 7 miles from the boat on Lake Michigan so sailing is a weekly activity.
Shitty people are everywhere just figure 1 out 10 people you might be able to stand…maybe. Good luck!
So true!
Lost track of your channel after the sale of the Cabo Rico. I appreciate all of your Lake Michigan content; glad to find you again. The IP is a lot of boat!
We’re worth losing track of… 😄 Thank you, Wesley!
Center cockpit boats are great. You can see so much better.
Yes. Improved visibility and sense of security but, being so far above the water, it does diminish the experience of sailing a bit.
Wow that’s the most peaceful thing to get to experience. Bless your journeys ♥️🙏
Thank you, YuVonne Oglesby!
Thanks for sharing. Looks beautiful
Thank you, BethMarie!
Good time for a short aviation story?
Always a good time for a little hangar flying, Surfish!
Would love to hear some. Thanks
That's not gloomy, its relaxing while sailing. Wunderbar.
It is! Thank you, Mark!
A beautiful boat and a lovely sail. That IP can handle those seas easily.
Thank you, Dennis! Yes, she’s very seaworthy. Thanks again and have a dandy day!
Good video thanks for sharing this breakdown. I to have had a few breakdowns got to think fast when things go south. My wife is great when I need her help fixing something fast in emergency. Your wife must be very capable herself.
Thank you, Beer4me! Yes she is and, after 30 years of marriage, we’re on the same wavelength most of the time! 😄
These are awesome boats! Maybe one of my favorites. You hit on the nail by justifying on which boat to buy cost versus how much you can use it. But there is nothing like a new boat.
Agreed! Thank you, Beer4me!
Looks like motering on lake Huron
It is, Richard.

Happy 🎉 4th. Do we still have the komodo kamado.
Thank you, John! Yes, we still have the Komodo but, I must admit, I haven’t been using it at all. I know, I know… 😄
You're a man I'd love to drink a beer and cook BBQ with. We moved from Austin, TX to Flagstaff, AZ. BBQ is much tougher here at 7000ft! I'm also huge into aviation, but had to stop working on my PPL for a while to work through some health stuff. Can you elaborate on what you mean by first going into butcher paper, and then wrapping in foil? Are you wrapping in butcher paper, going back on the pit, and then pulling at a later time to throw in foil, or do you mean you're doing both at the same time and using the butcher paper as a buffer to keep the brisket from sitting in juices inside?
Thank you, Dan! I hope you get back to flying soon! You have it with the latter. I start fat cap down but go fat cap up when I wrap. The butcher paper helps keep the seasoning in place while also wrapped in foil. After I pull the brisket, I rotate the brisket again while resting and the seasoning (not quite a bark anymore) firms up a bit. Let me know when you want to BBQ & drink a beer and have a great Independence Day!
Apparently the auxiliary drive noise issue was resoled.
Thanks for asking, John. We don’t know yet. We replaced the cutless bearing last year to no avail and the CV joints in the Python Drive and motor mounts this winter. We’ll know in about two weeks. Fingers crossed!
That’s cool
Thank you!
Are you on Facebook also? Really considering the Komodo Kamado, how do you like it so far.
Hello Daniel. Sorry, I’m not on Facebook. I must admit that I haven’t used the Komodo enough to offer an honest evaluation which may, in and of itself , say something. I simply haven’t yet devoted the time it looks like it’s going to take to develop the technique required to get the results I’m used to on other cookers.
I think you could use tuning plates to even out temps.
"That's a wrench. Says so." "New grill smell". Your dry sense of humor has me enjoying the video more than I expected.
Thank you, Charles!
Good job that looks like a nice day sailing
Thank you, Robert. It was definitely one of the best days of sailing on our trip. Fair winds!
If there's anything that will contribute more to the demise of GA..it's fuel prices and insurance. Shop labor rates are not far behind.
I'm looking at buying M20C Ranger to finish my instrument. I previously owned a Grumman Tiger and a V35B for 17 years. The M20C's seem to be undervalued for some reason. Any thoughts on using this platform for finishing my instrument rating? I like their simplicity and fuel economy.
Hello Mike. I’ve no time in Grummans and it’s been a long time since I flew a Bonanza or gave any instrument instruction so I can’t give a fair comparison of the Mooney to the aircraft you’re familiar with. I’ve also never flown a Mooney in IMC to make an assessment there. I would say that, as an instrument platform, the Mooney is probably not much different than any other low wing, complex aircraft for instrument training & IFR flight. In fact, it will not “hunt” as I recall Bonanzas doing in turbulence. Whatever aircraft you pick will probably either have been originally equipped with or upgraded to a standard “T” panel if not glass. That’s an inconvenience of older Mooneys if they haven’t been updated is that they may have a scatter panel.Yes, it is also very economical , especially if you don’t mind flying at power settings that keep the CHT’s happy. Keep your eyes peeled, a very low time Mooney may come to market soon though it is not equipped for instrument flight. 😉
Nice scenery. What is the airport?
Thank you, Mike! It’s KDRO.

How long does it take to get from charlevoix to the island?? My husband almost put a application in at Irish boat shop. We're considering getting a boat. How big do you recommend for lake michigan?? We have a place on the west side of the island. Thanks for the nice ride 👍
Hello, Suzy, and thank you! On this day of reasonably good sailing, the passage was about five or six hours. Your next question is difficult to answer as it depends on a number of factors such as experience, budget, desired features, personal preference, etc. Generally, the longer the waterline, the faster the boat and the heavier the boat, the easier the motion but there is far more to consider. For safety, much also depends on how you intend to sail your boat. A small, light boat is perfectly safe to sail on Lake Michigan if properly handled in carefully chosen conditions while the largest of vessels have succumbed to disaster in the same waters. I’m sorry I can make no recommendation but best wishes in finding a boat best for you.
My great grand parents (dad's site) made a homestead near the lighthouse and had 13 children on the island. One son died near the lighthouse shoreline, from diabetes. On a family trip there we found the home's foundation, very near the lighthouse. They sold wood to passing steamers and moved off the island when there were no more tall trees to cut down. Enjoy your videos very much, just need to wind up that engine to get through those bridges quicker...LOL.
Thank you, Brett! There is so much unique history there and through out the Great Lakes that seems to go largely unnoticed. It’s quite an experience to get to see and explore these places. Thanks again and have a dandy day!
Little did this guy know there's wolves mixed with bears, and spiders mixed with horses underground there just waiting to be unleashed on the public.
I'd love to see your actual track.
Thank you, John! I would too! 😄 I’m sure there’s a way to transfer the track from the electronics or derive something from the log but inept is my middle name when it comes to all things tech. It’s something I’m overdue to figure out. Thanks again and have a dandy day!

My dream smoker
Thank you, Mark! It’s my favorite. May your dreams come true!
I part time in Colorado at around 8050 and will try my hand at smoking meats on a pellet smoker this summer - should be interesting. I have been spoiled by having awesome meat selection in Texas but at the same time looking forward to the challenges of smoking at altitude.
Best of luck, Kaivon, and bon appetit!
Gorgeous Island Packet. Would love to know who made the dodger.
Thank you, Tommy C! I can't recall the name of folks who did the canvas work but I think they're in either Chula Vista or San Diego, CA. We'll be at the boat in a couple of weeks and I'll check then and let you know.
Phenomenal. Even a photo of the logo would be helpful. I tried to pause and zoom in on it but the resolution wasn't quite good enough. @@boomerantics9586
