@We_invend yup. I am seriously considering ccu upgrades for my 2 redeemers to Starlancer TACs. Sucks both are priced at $330 right now so I cant upgrade my redeemers
This does make me pretty content with my mental lean towards the BLD- If its trim down of amenities is akin to the trim down from the Zeus ES to the Zeus CL, then the BLD still has a good chance to be a really comfortable ship that specializes in helping you make a home, while also being a decent all-rounder.
I'm not too keen on buying a concept ship, but the starlancer tac just sounds like its all ive wanted in a multicrew ship and since the tac is out it shouldn't take too long to release. This and the hull B are my most anticipated ships for the forseeable future!
Ive been fortunate to have a small fleet, I’ve just picked up the starlancer max the other day. This ship is a Swiss Army knife, fact that it can fit a med ursa, roc, hover qoud, has an armoury, and still can carry over 120 and has comfortable qouters for operating independently. With rear stops back at station has made this one of my top contenders in my fleet. Fact it can be comfortably soloed but equally played with friends opens up possibilities. It’s not perfect if you just want to pvp or just fight ships, but it’s extremely capable. But im living aboard a lot due to the server issues and enjoy doing planetary ops. Doing mining, salvaging, bunkers and missions, and cargo. In ways a grate sand box ship and i actually love the looks and in ways has massively grown on me with the retro vibe.
After looking at some ship tours of the Starlancer. I gotta say I love the engineering and components section of the lancer. The max also has a very convenient cargo grid to work with. It very much raised my opinion of it. If we can start getting scu boxes out of a ROC, I am windmill slamming a MAX into my fleet.
The Starlancer TAC is literally the MISC Odyssey for more solo-able players minus the mining. Put my TAC on LTI because the design and amenities is what I've been wanting forever, and the MAX flies really well, just no need for all that cargo space. Picked up the Odyssey to put on buyback, but if my Polaris wasn't for our larger org, I'd melt it and keep the Odyssey.
After flying the SL Max and the Polaris...I can say the Starlancer feels more like a space home! Can't wait for the TAC to release! Great Review! I agree with the sub-capital ranking. I noticed that Cap class ships seem to always use the Extra Large Hangar. The max feels like bigger than classicaly large but not quite Cap sized.
I got the Max almost immediately. Its basically twice my trusty old Freelancer Max and brings almost perfectly anything in stats and versatility i would want when i step up to medium level. Only thing it lacks for some reason is a medbed. The bld is also tempting, but a clear case for ingame renting.
@@billionaireninjas true. Just feels strange that a ship they describe as being made for deep space doesnt have any onboard means of first aid. But i have felt the same about the exploration ships for a long time.

@@robopenguin5501 Yes, as i said it is my personal opinion on the "deep space" part. For now. Or even just having to reroute and spend half an hour or more on a visit to the closest (safe-ish) clinic because of that T3 onboard injury?
The Starlancer MAX is super cool. I do kind of wish there was more of an exploration/cargo combined role with an extra size 3 shield or maybe a medical room in the empty space by the habs.

Got the CCU and it is really looking like my melted Redeemer is going to end up as a Starlancer. I would like the ship to have tractor beam but its design of cargo plus vehicle space does allow it to bring other solutions to that problem. I would personally not mind if they gave the ship a better view but do not find the Freelancer cockpit a major bother either.
The reason they announced the BLD was to tell people what ship filled the gap the galaxy was leaving. And the MAX doesn't seem like a great cargo ship. However, using the MAX as a mission running ship for three people it really shines. CIG just doesn't have a category for Generalist PvE Ships. TAC s seem incredibly good
I think people got the perception that I don't like the max. It's not that I don't like it...I just can't recommend it over a fair number of other ships. I still like it though
I'm normally a cargo hauling guy, but I would like to get into pve/pvp with some good combat oriented ships. So the Tac would be a perfect addition to my hangar.
I upgraded to the Starlancer Max from a Freelancer Max. Th e starlancer looks like a better daily driver than the freelancer. I also wanted something easier to load, especially when chaining cargo missions. I like the side loading cargo.

Unfortunately, the MAX is out. At least on the PTU. And it's a solid 8. On the tractor beams. Due to its layout, it would be pretty much useless. At best it would be loading things in the back only. The MAX has three faces for loading. So there was no reason to put a tractor beam on the ship. Now that I've had a chance to mess with it, it really outshines the Connie in almost all factors. No, it doesn't have 4 Size 5's. But neither did the Connie until this year. It flies really well. The interior works extremely well. You can fit two Merlins. At least four Furys. Yeah, the MAX is a solid 8.
I disagree on the need for tractor beam. If I'm grading the ship as a standalone which I always do...me having to bring something to make the ship do its main function is always a negative, no matter how easy it can become. If the primary role was not cargo, I would be ok with it but for a primary role cargo ship, tractor beam is a must for me as an option, even if other folks dont need one. Also the cargo capacity for the price doesn't quite fit my focus on value and the mailslot...well some dont care about it...I definitely do lol
@@billionaireninjas Honestly, I think you are discounting how much the MAX's cargo layout facilitates both loading and unloading from outside and underneath the ship especially if once the dust settles the two-handed tractor beam tools can still carry 32 SCU crates. With just one person per side and the optimally sized crates, each person only has to take out six crates a piece to completely unload the cargo grids. Furthermore, the only potential situation of one crate blocking another is with the rear cargo, where on each side the rear most 24 SCU crate might need to be moved to access the forward most one; *but only if there are vehicle(s) and/or unsecured cargo in the middle of the bay. Otherwise, unloading specific crates along a route with multiple stops will be easy. Edit: Really, the only substantial benefits I can see for the Starlancer MAX to have a built-in tractor beam would be for the purely solo player (i.e. operating it without any NPCs, not just foregoing playing with others), or picking something up that's floating in space (which can still be done via EVA, but would be somewhat cumbersome and take a while).
But see, I didn't take points off for not loading easily, I took points off for lacking a tractor beam. Plenty of people prefer using an ATLS to an onboard tractor beam on every single ship. That doesn't negate that a dedicated cargo ship should have a tractor beam. I personally prefer an ATLS to dedicated tractor beams myself but these reviews aren't just about me, they are about being fair to everyone who watches them including the onboard tractor beam lovers... And they deserved a tractor beam even if it would be low functioning.
I believe the best part of the Starlancer MAX will be quick loading/unloading times, which could reduce the likelihood of encountering pirates at outposts and maximize profits. The cozy features could also help to keep crews happy during travel.
13:15 What is a "mail slot"? Edit: I looked it up, it's the cockpit window, really narrow. It indeed SUCKS, specially compared to RSI ships. Is it possible that the co-pilot in this vessel is in the "sensor and radar-command suite"...? Is the MAX also an explorer and data-transport?
I just realized that CIG is selling new cargo ships to fix the hauling mission containers instead of fixing box containers that will fit in your specific ship when accepting missions. 😂 Still love the Starlancer MAX tho my home away from home.
This I understand. Like for me, I already own an ATLS so I don't need tractor beams but I think lacking one is an issue I still have to raise in the review.
C2 should also have a tractor beam where the M2 and A2 have a nose turret. All big cargo ships should have a tractor beam, CIG is just too in love with artificially gimping ships in the guise of "player choice." In reality, any crew interested in efficient cargo hauling will use both handheld tractor beams and ship beams if available, and likely an ATLS if necessary, so a single shipboard tb just adds the bare minimum to being able to move cargo with the cargo ship we might buy. Here's hoping that after the "gold standard" pass all ships get by 1.0 they also will get a "common sense" pass, as well.
Question, you love the A2, which I do too and have one. I really love the TAC, but I don't really see a reason to have one if I have an A2 as well? Do you see many reasons you would use your TAC instead of an A2 with an Ursa Medivac in the cargo bay? By the way, saw you made it on stream behind Jared at Citizen Con. Was fun to see you there after watching all your videos reviewing ships on the road to Citizen Con.
TAC is a step below the A2. The main reason would be it's Cheaper to operate, cheaper to replace, and less set-up required. I'm getting one so that I don't have to bring out my A2 as much. I also think its great for bunkers and hanging with friends. Its more get up and go than the A2 which requires a bit of prep time.
Final thoughts on the Starlancer - I think the BLD is going to be the go to for many players. I stocked up on a couple of CCU's for when it gets released. My big issue is exposed cargo, so the MAX fills the gap between my MSR and Cat. Many players overlook what the devs said about cargo amounts on ships. The larger the SCU amount, the higher frequency/chance of NPC pirates intercepting you. The Pioneer is a high value strategic asset; which means, the moment it gets spotted it will likely be attacked. It comes with a massive SCU cargo capability many times larger than the Starlancer (which increases the chance of interception.) Any way you cut it, the Pioneer will always need an escort. I think the BLD will be largely ignored by comparison allowing it to operate a bit more freely.
Finally, a concept ship that, despite your excellent review, I have no interest in owning. What a relief well, except maybe that BLD version, unless I can own literally anything else that will build a large base, or like a pioneer, oh damn it I might have to buy this bld. Damn it
I feel that the "MAX" should have been a "DUR", maybe lose a bit of cargo/vehicle space for more internal fuel tanks. Small Fuel refinery maybe... While a Proper "MAX" should have a full cargo grid on the back, with modified, slightly larger Engines.
The ATLS doesn't add anything to the cost of the MAX, because you can get them in game for ~70k aUEC each. The layout of the cargo holds makes a fixed position tractor beam very hard to implement. The MAX is going to really shine when it is loaded with 6 32 SCU boxes which can be loaded and unloaded very quickly, making it a very efficient bulk cargo hauler. It also has one of the nicest habitation areas of any ship not made by Origin.
I suppose time and energy spent doesn't mean the same to everyone. But I can make the argument for anything if I just assume in-game costs instead of out of game costs. I like the max, I think the score gives people the impressions I don't. I just think it should either carry more cargo, be cheaper, or have a tractor beam....and saying it's difficult to put a tractor beam on a ship that CIG literally designed to be that way doesn't really sway me...they could have designed it to fit a tractor beam they chose not to do so.
I could only recommend at best a CCU for the BLD because they have already demonstrated that a better model might come out before they release base building (or worse, change in development).
Easy to imagine base building will come out with a bespoke ship so CIG can cash in on the same idea again. I think the BLD is less likely to be thrown in backlog purgatory like the Galaxy, but it's not impossible. Buying concepts is stupid anyway you get nothing but a higher price tag not getting CCUs.
Funnily enough I'm a veteran who was part of a cav unit with armor and have been in plenty m1's, bradley, and I even drove a stryker, MRAP and MATV in-country... Still dont like the mail slot lol
Thanks for being the best at what you do. Also I think I need Arrastra as well

It comes with a massive SCU cargo capability many times larger than the Starlancer (which increases the chance of interception.) Any way you cut it, the Pioneer will always need an escort. I think the BLD will be largely ignored by comparison allowing it to operate a bit more freely.
Agreed
really loving the MAX, think its going to be my primary mid-size
hauler
Its good at its role. I just wish it had more cargo and a tractor beam but its still solid
I might get the tac because of the med bed and the hanger, it would be a good ship for me and my friends but the price is concerning
I bought the MAX and I'm loving it so far. It's more nimble than I would have thought! I may upgrade to the TAC at some point. 😁
I like the max it just has a few flaws!
Starlancer MAX is really nice. Very detailed and perfect match for its role.
I like it. I just disagree about the perfect match. I think there are better matches but this one is good too.
The Fatlancers looks awesome!
these are all cool ships. i look forward to seeing them in the verse
Amazing ship. I got the max and will upgrade to the tac or build once they are releaded
I am supper excited about the Starlancer series even with the letterbox view.
Finally, a concept ship that, despite your excellent review, I have no interest in owning. What a relief well, except maybe that BLD version, unless I can own literally anything else that will build a large base, or like a pioneer, oh damn it I might have to buy this bld. Damn it
They are cool looking ships and the interior is awesome.
lets go, love the content!
Here's me, hoping to see the Odyssey in the not too distant future ... .
As sad as it is, im pretty sure both the odyssey and endeavor are gonna be post 1.0
It is nicer on the inside then the POLARIS 😂 Fuggin CIG
Starlancer private civilian used ship. Polaris military purpose built.
Starlancer Build is going to be sweet
thanks for the review!
I feel that the "MAX" should have been a "DUR", maybe lose a bit of cargo/vehicle space for more internal fuel tanks. Small Fuel refinery maybe... While a Proper "MAX" should have a full cargo grid on the back, with modified, slightly larger Engines.
I love my max I just checked it out in the ptu it’s amazing
Hoping the MAX will be the next DD to replace the Taurus :D
I could only recommend at best a CCU for the BLD because they have already demonstrated that a better model might come out before they release base building (or worse, change in development).
Easy to imagine base building will come out with a bespoke ship so CIG can cash in on the same idea again. I think the BLD is less likely to be thrown in backlog purgatory like the Galaxy, but it's not impossible.
Buying concepts is stupid anyway you get nothing but a higher price tag not getting CCUs.
@@MisterFoxton I agree, the CCU is just insurance in case; for example: Orion, Polaris and Carack.
Have a Max, can’t wait to fly it :)
So far, I enjoy the MISC Starlancer MAX. Its a nice comfy ship that does what you want it to
It is indeed comfy!
Great video. Thank you.
the starlancer is most likely going to be my DD for cargo running.
being a veteran, I dont mind the turret style windows....kinda nostalgic o7
Funnily enough I'm a veteran who was part of a cav unit with armor and have been in plenty m1's, bradley, and I even drove a stryker, MRAP and MATV in-country... Still dont like the mail slot lol
I got the max to try it out we’ll see how it goes from there videos I’ve seen I’m digging it
