  • The AK cars were taken to Tottenham and back on 4th December 2018 via Pacific National and locomotives 48159 and 48103 as train numbers WK81 and WK82.
The use of Pacific National yellow and blue liveried 48 class had occur a number of times on AK car branch line test trains, though was not common. Now it seems PN have turned over these trains to other operators such as SSR.
These trains offer an opportunity to cover a branch both ways with a turn around at Tottenham for locomotives to detached from the down end and run around to the up end of the three car AK set. At the terminus camera and cables will be attached to the front of the lead locomotive (in this case 48103) once the train has arrived there. In this video we follow a portion of WK81's journey where we end this presentation as the train runs past the The Troffs. The Troffs being one of the many silos on the line, though it is a now closed Graincorp site that is often used to store grain wagons during down turns in the grain transport cycle.
Though today the focus of exploring this line is not the grain industry that keeps this line open (not withstanding a possible mine site opening and requiring the line to be upgraded) but a track testing train. The AK cars annual cycle in 2018 was disrupted and hence PN were performing this test in December.
Please enjoy this presentation and thank you to those who keep me informed of movements so I can record these scenes of rail activity.
