lets us know in the comments!
The newborn Bornean baby orangutan featured in this video is only 4 few days old and was born early on 31st August 2023 to Mother Sarikei and Father Willie
Sarikei is an experienced mother orangutan who has had previous offspring including her son Tombol who lives with her and the rest of the Bornean Orangutans at Chester Zoo
At the time of recording this video Chester Zoo had announced the birth only days earlier and had yet to reveal the name and gender of the critically endangered newborn baby orangutan
Chester Zoo Baby Orangutan
Chester Zoo is has a very successful record of Orangutan births at the zoo and most of the Orangutan Mothers are able to rear their own young without the assistance of zoo staff, this is largely due to the expert care and facilities the World Class Zoo provides for the animals.
The current animal population have had valuable experience with babies and have observed relatives caring for young, using this learning and experience to enable them to rear their own offspring
Birth of critically endangered orangutan at Chester Zoo
Bornean Orangutans have been considered critically endangered since 2016 with an only an estimated 100,000 left in the wild. They are seriously in danger of extinction which makes the birth of this new baby orangutan very special indeed
Congratulations to Chester Zoo on the birth of the new baby orangutan from @apetracker

What a little sweetheart. So wonderful the baby has a good mom. Mom looks sweet and she looks like she knows what she's doing.
Lol😂😂😂 It's so funny when they're little and can't quite focus yet and so they end up looking cross-eyed when they stare at something close up. With the crazy orangutan hair it's the cutest thing ever 😂😂😂❤❤❤!
I love the way the babies eyes look when their young
Orangutans are some of the best animal mothers in the world. They are truly incredible creatures ❤
So adorable, Sarikei and Jazz are such great moms. Tombol seems to be handling being a big brother okay. Saw a video yesterday where he had a sack bag and climbed up to mom and baby and either gave it to Sarikei or she gently took it. Amazing animals.
Holding on to mama !! Mama is so calm. She is doing what she does best ❤❤
No wonder these babies learn to climb trees and to scamper from limb to limb at an early age! Besides being able to find the milk jug at birth, God gave them the knowledge, ability and no-fear attitude to hang on to mama's hair with an iron grip and to be ready at a moment's notice to swing from mama just anywhere they happen to be resting, as mama goes hunting for food! Mama just kinda picks it up (by any limb near her hand) and lifts it up a little, then takes off, and the babies don't seem to mind! I love watching them when they take good care of their babies. Precious.
BEAUTIFUL MOM AND BABY 💕💕
yes look what they have to lie on it's horrible
Awe! So happy to see a new baby! Hope all goes well for mom and baby!❤
What a great mom.
She is a really experienced mum, which really does show. Thanks for watching. 🥰
Awww the baby looks like a grumpy, little old man. 😂 So adorable 🥰
A great video! You have told us everything doting grandparents would want to know. And the pictures are fantastic.
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊 Really glad you enjoyed the video and these amazing Orangutans. Have a great weekend. 🥰
A wonderful little being. Glad he has a mum. Thanks.
Hi! Mother 🌹🐒♥️Karkeis and baby🕯️🐒🧸❤️
The little one, even though he's 4 days old, he's holding on to his mother. Here, I think everything's gonna be okay.
😊😊😊
The new baby Bornean Orangutan at Chester Zoo is my fave baby to watch .
Son únicos preciosos y el bebé buen afianzado de su madre
Precious little guy!
Maybe Sarikei didn't like the taste of the juice.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting, we really appreciate it. 👍
Yes, Jarang should come here and have Sureiki be his surrogate mom.
Fico muito triste quando vejo essas criaturas maravilhosas presas.
Ela está se sentindo mal e está pedindo ajuda.
Mas não apareceu ninguém.
Yes they are adorable, but that is a terrible enclosure for those great apes. It should be way bigger and full of giant trees so she doesn't have to sit on the ground. Orangutans live in the trees. The zoo should know better, and they could do better if they wanted to.
Why, please, is an animal whose natural habitat is heavily forested, jailed in such deplorable conditions? Is there any justification?
This is a world class zoo, with excellent large well planted outdoor areas that the animals (that were all born in captivity) are free to roam in all day,
It is their own choice to be in the indoor areas, which may not look appealing, but are large and were designed specifically for their needs
The animals are content, extremely well cared for by specialist keepers and conservationists and have all the food and medication they need, indeed many of these animals far exceed the life expectancy of their wild cousins
with the oldest orangutan at the zoo at 58 years old and the group is successfully breeding, ensuring hope for the survival of this critically endangered species
We all hope for a day when Orangutans can once again be safe and thrive in the wild, Currently Orangutans are on the brink of extinction in the wild
Their forest environments are being burned, cleared for agriculture and the animals are being hunted and sold in the illegal wildlife trade at an alarmingly increasing rate
Zoos like this are doing an amazing job trying to prevent these great apes from extinction
The momma needs medicine on her skin especially around her hands.🐵
Хочет кушать.
Thanks for watching. 👍
NO GRASS ANY WHERE JUST HORRIBLE BITS OF STONE
The grass, trees, plants, bushes, climbing poles, hammocks are in the outdoor areas, where they are free to roam all day, they sometimes prefer to be indoors - their own preference
Their environment has been carefully design to meet their specific needs by primate experts and conservationists
This baby is not a likely yet Mom, stay low.
Dosent look very well😢
Thanks for watching, fortunately she is an experienced mum and Chester
zoo have some amazing staff in the primate team. Hopefully all will be good.
