My Dad, Paul Sanchez on stand-up bass, a member of the band “The Ramblers”. If anyone went to see the band often, you may have remembered a 10 year old kid hanging around the bar.
Just got introduced recently to this man's music. I'm astounded by the quality of the lyrics and the music. If I could only fly and Clay Pigeons are absolute classics but I'm sure there are many more. R.I.P. Blaze.
It’s hard for me as a songwriter when I hear a song for the first time like Clay Pigeons..it’s like well…might as well pack this in he already made the perfect song.lol
this should be put in a museum & kept forever for future generations to learn from. Humble man & Genuine soul. we miss souls like you on this planet in these trying times. RIP Blaze i hope you are where you wanted to be.
If anyone wants to learn more about Michael David Fuller ( Blaze Foley ), I cannot recommend anything more highly than the book Living In The Woods In A Tree by Sybil Rosen, the girl the song If I Could Only Fly was written both for and about. Even were Ms Rosen not a phenomenal writer ( she is ), simply the story of Blaze Foley would be engrossing enough. But the subtlety, passion and insightful nuances of life, love and discovery, of dogged determination, of loss and regret with which Ms Rosen tells the tale is simply spell-binding. If interested, Google the title. There are many places it can be found. It really is a one-of-a-kind book.
That was incredible. Blaze was such a beautiful, pure talent and the best harmony singer ever. The story behind that Townes footage is touching. TVZ wasn't having a good time of it and Blaze just elevated him, like a transfer of powers.
Wow, this has got to be some of the best Blaze Foley video there is. Very rare stuff. But then, so are his recordings. Hopefully, some of those mystery master tapes will show up someday in someone's garage or something.
If i could only fly is a master piece .. blaze is a great artist..everyone needs to be aware of just how important he is..atreat to see him dueting with tvz snowin on raton
His songs sound like its 1930 something. I have listened to this a dozen times today alone. It never gets old but it feels very old. I hope that makes sense. Blaze put so much of his emotions into his songs. Thanks for the music. May you be at peace Blaze.
@@gregc.8040 Leon Redbone took oldy, really oldies from after turn of last century (1920's, 30's, etc...), and brought them back. Put in his own CHARISMA and became notorious for his mannerism that elevated him to sold out shows. Good calming strutting that I've enjoyed since early 1980's

To me Blaze this sounds and looks a little like Captain Beefheart or is just me that thinks this way, I bet others see and hear a little of what I have discovered. This is the first time that I got Townes and Blaze on the the screen and i and not disappointed, in fact, I and very happy to find this, both men look, sound and play great

Blaze drifted from my radar some years ago, but recently while researching Philip Donnolly , Blaze resurfaced . TVZ & Blaze had self-destruction buttons that were jammed in with insecurities and simple alcoholism. When you get addicted you leave all your future behind you and your hopes and dreams on a liqueur store shelf. We all got crazy in us, everybody, but most manage never to let it take hold or even know about it.... but for some of us... crazy has always been on the outside and we keep the real person hidden deep inside, except for maybe one avenue out .... that was in writing songs for those guys
Love this man. Blaze haley a true man. Love this video. Thanks so much man. Aaaaah and since it's a Blaze haley video I'm not going to comment the 1naysayer
Not sure but I’d bet it’d be Musically similar to his Other songs. I’m new to him. What’s his best song? Any different sounds? Not impressed thus far. Townes is much better!
Is it just me or some of his singing, especially on the low notes, is pretty similar to Frank Zappa's? I don't know if Zappa would ever have admitted to be inspired by a country musician, and maybe this is pure coincidence. But the funny aspects of Foley's lyrics could even have inspired Zappa's great songwriting... Maybe?
Too bad no one has footage like this of Gary Allison. However the Gary Allison's and Danny Webb's of the world just fall through cracks. They get remembered as that drunk injun and that guy who kept my trees beautiful. Gary had some amazing songs, but the police shot him down unarmed. Danny still has beautiful songs you could hear if you happen to be around lake Bastrop at some point and know the right folks. Just sayin fail to include these two in any telling of the other's stories is a major historical lapse.
NO, It very well could have been about Obama, or heaven forbid if Hillary would have won it could have been about her BUT I know songs like this are not written about the Democrats/Liberals because it seems that only the liberals feel as though they were left behind or have been cheated most of their lives! OK having said that I do Like/ enjoy Blaze Foley's songs.

Looks like you carried on the music Bonnie, awesome.
Your Dad made a huge impression on Blaze. You could see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice. Obviously. a very talented man. 👍👍Gerry Farry.

Well done Blaze as usual the best are taken way to soon. God bless
What a cool cool cat!
Watch, "Blaze"...a movie produced/directed by Ethan Hawke. Ben Dickey portrays Blaze, and Charlie Sexton, portrays Townes. Fantastic work.
is there any chance that’s Townes’ sax that was used, before he “hung it in a tree and shot it full of holes” ?
Blaze definitely deserved it! RIP 🎸
Blaze was such a character. It feels so strange seeing a backup band. I always got a lonely vibe from his music.
Found out about this cat from Otis Gibbs' channel.

maybe blaze took from zappa? who knows. blaze is great, that 80s era huey lewis sax guy tho lol.
Yeh Zappa was around a long time ago. Blaze sounds very much like John Prine to me more than Zappa.
Some of it

His music with this band has a vibe similar to Jeffrey Frederick (another cult songwriter who died too soon)... sounds good!
