That wood is beautiful for projects around the house instead of burning it 🤗, coasters, cutting board, a wall of wood slices (pinterest for ideas). Enjoying all your videos!
I can imagine the constant rain can be tiring after a while, but as Iwan said, it fills up the wells and aquifers, so not so bad in the long run. Loved the shots of Frankie looking out the window. Where was Albi????
I just stumbled upon your channel and am blown away by your beautiful property. You two have worked so hard and have had your share of difficulties. I am so happy that you got the additional land. Your relationship seems to be well intact. I am willing to bet that you have increased your skill set exponentially. I think that if your relationship has survived this far, it will survive and flourish for years to come. I have a little black cat (Ava) that looks just like yours, all the way down to the little white tuft on her chest. I tried to get her to watch your video with me, but she has a very short attention span. I love seeing cats and dogs (and the occasional chicken) getting to live an indoor/outdoor life. I wonder what Frankie thinks about moving from an apartment to more of an outdoor life? He seems pretty happy to me. I know you two have probably heard this many times before, but I am going to say it anyway. Goats = lawnmower + fresh milk. You wouldn't need to feed them except maybe in the winter. Plus, there aren't too many things cuter than a baby goat. I watch a few off grid channels, but they are all in the U.S. This will be a nice change of pace. I have to go now. After watching all your hard work, I am exhausted! I have to take a nap and get rested 😴 up to watch your next video. See you soon.
Your drawings are so beautiful, lovely lovely work! Sending sunny days your way! I also follow Ken and Gina, and Nick and Andrea! Adore them all as much! Portugal is my dream country!
We're in summer in South Africa and are also having these heavy rains . But we had a drought for 6 full years here in the Eastern Cspe so we're not complying . Actually in some parts , the cars have slid off the roads thinking they could drive through deep sections. .
Ahh you got that oven at just the right time, with all this rain - nothing better than baking and cooking cosy food on these rainy days! I think you are right about those metal sheds - I can imagine that showering in one would be pretty depressing, they also have no floor which is a bit of a pain. Although for a shower maybe that's a bonus... Anyway I think if you continue to improve your little shower cubicle you already have, once you have hot pressurised water, you will barely notice that you are actually outside, you'll feel the cold so much less!
Hi guy's, your having liquid snow. I do love the sound of rain on the roof, brings back some childhood memories. Nice to see you still planting, I've got cabbage, peas and beans growing now. Sunny here to day and a nice breeze. 21 in doors and the tiles on the floors are so cold. We've had a lot of clouds and rain on higher ground. Thankyou for sharing, your kitchen is so cosy now. Bathroom project next year, happy hens first. Stay safe, warm and sane too.
Hi Helen, I love the sound of rain too. I’ll try and show in the next video all the running water we’ve currently got on the land too, it’s a beautiful sound! lots of planting, we’ve not had our first frost yet so we shall see what survives, I think we’ll get one around Christmas. hope you stay safe and warm too xxx
Sounds a bit tight arse but leek and shallot / spring onion I save 2 cm of the stalk and pop them in a cup of water just the roots or they rot and they reshoot and can be replanted same with potato’s that have shot I pulled the shoots off some in a dark draw planted and got 2 kg back, tiny baby chats have grown on for another year , the rain is life giving as you both well know , moderation is nice though i am tasmania rain forest my had 8 sunny day s in 3 . 5 months la nino & el Nina playing havoc snow in oz last week 3 weeks into summer good to see you guys out and about with wagu take care 👍❤️❤️❤️🙏
Really nice video this week. Although it may be very annoying to have so much rain, it’s quite soothing to me to hear your rain, and see your animals all snuggle together on the couch. Frankie is just too cute with her little nose up against the window. It was lovely seeing the two of you get out and enjoy yourselves.
Hello Iwan and Carissa, in this video you have surpassed yourself, I think you have improved the image quality or this week there were very beautiful colors, the edition is also better... the recording angles have transported me to your property. The truth is that this video enchanted me, I love how green everything looks and the winter garden is beautiful, take care of yourselves
Hey guys! Ken's sister popping by 🤗 What a gorgeous, soothing channel... Stunningly filmed. Really gorgeous footage of Aka Sushi 😍 Really impressed!! I'm a new fan 🤩
To dry the firewood quickly lay down a few lengths of old lumber and stack the varying sized logs on their SIDES to expose the ends to the hot Portuguese sun.
Great video…it’s so nice to see the rain for you. Cats and dogs really know how to wait out the storms. My grandparents first farm had no indoor bathrooms-we took baths on Saturdays in the kitchen in a large galvanized tub. The feast looked marvelous!
You two are so amazing! Living your best lives, in spite of the weather! Your home is very comfortable! It would be nice to have access to your bathroom without have to go outside in the inclimate weather. Just to have some control over the temperture would also be great! Once dry after your showers to be able to stay that way! I know you will figure out the best solution!
Glad to see you both so happy despite the weather. It must be how Noah felt on the Ark, hiding indoors from the constant rain with lots of animals for company.
All that rain must damage some of your veges! Loved your sketch pad with all your drawings and the tiles are stunning. The Sushi restaurant looks amazing.🌧🥦🥬🧅🍣🍤🦑
I've been having some bucket showers recently as the boiler died. Sucks during the cold snap. I'm just using watering cans in the shower tho, but you need a few.
Split your firewood while it's wet and it will dry quicker. Love the pictures. It seems strange one of the wells hasn't filled up with all that rain you have had.
Great vid! So much rain, but the earth is getting replenished and come summer hopefully there will be no serious fires. I love your Dad's drawing. You are both really talented. Merry Christmas! 🙂👍👍🇨🇦🌲🌲🌲🐕🐕😼😼❤
Brilliant video, Carissa and Iwan! I love your drawings, Carissa. Iwan, the lamb stew sounds delicious! All that food in the restaurant made me hungry. It was enjoyable to see you two having fun❤️❤️
Amazing, Lob Scouse. Used to have it as a child (perhaps on Mondays based on lamb leftovers from Sunday) thanks to my Welsh speaking Caernarfonshire mother. She served it with red cabbage. Haven’t had it for years.

wonderful constellation of ingredients in your video today. Beautiful drawings and I felt very hungry with the cooking - and reminder for me to make this very familiar dish, that we call cawl. And then more delicious looking food. Glad to see you all appreciating life. As you asked - I supported France (being 50-50 French-Welsh) but had to keep that quiet where I live! Let's see what happens tonight. boa noite :)
Gosh that takes me back to the good old days Euan 🤔 not the cawl stew but someone using a BIG GAS OVEN LOL 😂😂 , world gone crazy on Air fryers so is great to see traditional stove being used 😉. Have a Happy Christmas 🎅 and fantastic New Year 😘.
That is good advice! We mostly needed them out of the way for now. We need to get them properly covered for curing. Some of the bigger pieces have more creative outcomes! 😅
Two years for drying firewood? I thought 1 year was sufficient?? Maybe different in Portugal?? Wow, it sure is a relief when the rain lets up some, eh? Glad you enjoyed a great dinner out. Always good for a break
I just asked my Geordie husband if he a similar recipe. He says yes but can’t remember what it was called, I remember something similar also, but done with mince, either beef or lamb. Will try your recipe Iwan my hubby is very curious, but of well add the bitter beer. lol 😜
Hi I see you still have a outside shower may I suggest something .Get some pallets maybe 4 lay them in your barn flat , place your shower tray over one of them and run your pipe outside temporary ..put the surrounding fencing around the shower and wrap plastic around it to keep warm ..place some thin boards on rest of pallets to walk on .Go on UK eBay get yourself a hot water heater maybe a 16 litre one .Run a cold water supply into building connect to boiler and kitchen tap then put a inline 12 volt water pump in the inlet water pipe and connect to both feeds .Put the outlet from heater into a t piece and run to kitchen hot water tap .then out of other end of t piece run to shower head ..Put gas bottle in barn and connect via a manifold to boiler and cooker .check for leaks by pouring soapy water over joints when gas is on if no leaks it won't bubble .the last thing to do is to connect a switch in the shower room and kitchen to switch pump on to prime water before turning on hot water .the boiler will recognise load switch on and give you hot water .Ps the boiler runs on two batteries .Hope this is ok for you .Dave .
remember the logs needs to get off the ground else they won't dry, I don't think the top well will get to the top... it will most likely go to the line you see on the wall down the well.
Hi guys, great call on the metal shed! We have one in the UK and would never buy another as the quality for the money is terrible. Did your think about all the végétables that you could plant on this special area ? like taro plants which grow in areas full of water: you can eat the rhizomes and the leaves for some varieties. you should try.
For the money of the shed, you would be better off buying some timber and roofing sheets, and build a lean to, onto the barn, and put shower under there, i have seen a mad shower built out of two IBC tanks, chop the top off two and put one upside down on the other, not a permanent fix but an up grade, i will see if i can find the clip, you guys should be used to rain coming from wales, i did one winter in Newcastle Emlyn, that was enough for me lol.. when it wet go time plan and study, love what you guys, do, and jealous of your lifestyle..
Hi Aiden, we agree, the conclusion we came to was that we should be able to build something better with the money so hopefully in the next couple of weeks there will be a break in the rain! thanks for watching ☺️
Looks like winter is your summer, when it comes to having a growing season. Joachim should try planting corn in the early spring (March-ish). Maybe still not enough light or warmth, but it seems a shame to plant in the summer when you know it's just going to fry.
That all looks yummy! I’m not sure if you were just saving the leek greens for the purpose of the stock, but I have met too many people who throw that part away and o my use the white bit.. and just thought I’d say, in case.. that the leek greens are soooooo delicious so never throw them out xx
@@FrankieOffGrid I thought you might, but it would be an awful shame for those home growns to go to waste in case you didn’t so thought I’d risk it! Xx
Maybe odd Question, about Portugal If you try to buy things from AliExpress, ebay amazon etc, does it come ?fast? Is it cheap/expensive? Are there some weird fees? I ask because its a land and it seems like there isn't a mail box thingy, ...? 🤔
Iwan, you do realise you can eat more of the green of the leek ( I imagine you do being Welsh). However, you redeemed yourself by using it for stock. Did yo take that steak bone home for doggies? O love how Frankie and Diogo snuggle together. I can not remember, but do you have an ibc to catch the big water from all the drainpipes. Any big unsed containers would be good to act as water butts too. Watching other channels, they have picked up the tradition of having trenches with branches running off to act as natural irrigation.doyou not have a big sort of trough thing to hold water in. Carrissa, I love your drawings. Are you going to do me some coasters? I only started looking at you tube this year so i shall have to look back at your early days. Another great video. X
Another beautiful vlog. Check out “Camp Out West” for a cool idea with the outdoor shower. Sushi is my absolute favorite food. Looks amazing! Wish I could show you all the art I’ve done as Christmas gifts. Thank you for the inspiration! ❤From Overcast Michigan

It true.. but it is bought firewood - there’s not much special about it. When we prune the olives we might use the wood for something.

All those leek greens should be chopped up and put in your scouse lot of goodness in those greens
These were very very tough.. so used them for the stock instead, usually we’d use almost the whole thing!

Use two icb on top of one another for show
Iwan, you do realise you can eat more of the green of the leek ( I imagine you do being Welsh). X
Amazing video 👌thanks for sharing 💯👍🤗
Another beautiful vlog. Check out “Camp Out West” for a cool idea with the outdoor shower. Sushi is my absolute favorite food. Looks amazing! Wish I could show you all the art I’ve done as Christmas gifts. Thank you for the inspiration! ❤From Overcast Michigan
