- Hello folks! Today we have a restoration of a small dagger in the Caucasian style. You remember, I bought it at a flea market a couple of weeks ago. So, this restoration is ready! Gets to work!

First, I have disassembled on dagger handle. Next, to carefully remove the old leather from the dagger sheath, I placed them in warm water. The design of the dagger sheath surprised me, I have not seen such a thing yet.
I started the restoration with the blade. I don't know what kind of metal, there is no brand. Furthermore, I sanded it with sandpaper and checked the hardening of the blade. Everything is very strange, part of the blade was tempered, and part was not. I decided to tempering anew. After heat treatment, I sanded it again and slightly sharpened it.
Next, I moved on to the handle. This was the most difficult part of the recovery, because part of the handle was broken, and this is a bone. To restore the upper part of the handle, I managed from the third time. I used a moose horn. The second part was easier to restore, the epoxy resin helped me in this.
Then I started working with the dagger sheath. The joints were glued and covered with a new thin genuine leather. I sanded and polished the accessories of the knives, and I did the same with the rivets for the handle.
The dagger I guess is decorative, but cute. I also did the usual dagger test. I hope you enjoyed this dagger restoration video.

I have to admit that the mistakes you have shown is still genuine and true to the restoration at hand. It's not easy to get blade handles right the first time. Turned out great. Gives it character. One again great work. The sand is confusing.
Hello! Thanks for attention. Yes, to be honest, it was difficult. The horn material is solid and it didn't work out to give it the right shape the first time, but from the third it seems so.
Not all things can be fixed or repaired the first time. Sometimes the item being fixed has it own ideas. It happens. Great video and content.

Your “tradition” of mistakes makes your videos more relatable. If you banged these pieces out without including the trial and errors, it would be discouraging at least for me to attempt anything like this. I would think “this guy has a better model of brain than I do, I can’t possibly be that good.” I find I’m motivated to try because you keep it real. Very cool! 😊

I know there are many items made / aged to look old, which is why I have never purchased a kindjal, or shashka.

Tip, for restoring small nicks in bone or horn items, I usually use epoxy putty instead of liquid epoxy. Dunno if it is a common item in Georgia (I know that in my country it's easy to find, but some friends from other countries tell me it's not so common in theirs...) but while it is far worse adhesive than the liquid one, it is superb for that kind of work - it saves a lot of work.

Бесспорно прекрасная слесарная работа по реанимации побитого жизнью кинжала.
Однако, возникли некие вопросы, по существу принятых решений. Был ли смысл в восстановлении, аж с третьей попытки, целостности утраченной части белой рукоятки, и не проще ли было изготовить её целиком? На тёмной рукоятке из коровьего рога, видны сколы в месте удержания пальцами.
По самому клинку, сложно чтото сказать. Он без долов, сталь тонкая, заточка только режущей кромки.
Но боевой танец, как всегда на высоте. Восстановленный кинжал, прекрасно дополнил национальный боевой пояс. Не хватает только доя полного прикида бешмета с гозырями, башлыка, бурки и папахи! Об этом, я настоятельно рекомендую озаботиться, для создания полного образа настоящего джигита! Одолжи у дедушки, реально и ты сразу осознаешь, какие посыпятся мощные лайки.

Или я плохо вижу, или всё таки "кустарненько"! Бывают и поярче и качественнее восстановление и реставрация !

Just a note: a thin coating of wax, oil, or silicone spray will keep the epoxy from sticking to your molding objects. Excellent work as always.

Привет, спасибо за внимание. Да есть такое дело, но тут смотрите в чем дело, данная эпоксидная (в основном на западе продается), у нас же ее нет. Потому что цена высокая а спроси низкий. Вообще та западная очень хорошая, многие вещи можно с ее помощью декорировать и делать.

Good evening! Thanks for attention. Sand? I don't know, I don't know for sure. But if you use salt, then the blade will rust and the scabbard will deteriorate.
@@ScrewsAndTools You are totally right! I have seen people putting salt between two wooden planks so it would not slide off each other easily, but as you mentioned don’t do it on any metal parts 😃
when you fill in spaces try putting some shavings into the void before you put in the epoxy, it makes a more appealing finish

Отличная работа, но для работы при реставрации кости или рога лучше использовать ювелирную эбоксидку. А так очень хорошо.

Ювелирная эпоксидная смола это по сути та же эпоксидка только с 98% прозрачностью и способностью окрашиваться в любой цвет.
Очень крепкая на схватывание и довольно эластичная при обработке.
Цена относительно не дорого.
В моем регионе 2000руб за 1,5 кг.

Советую взять средство для установки стоматологических пломб. Стоит не дорого(примерно 500 российских рублей) смешивание порошок с эпоксидной смолой и им замещаете утерянные фрагменты кости. Выходит отлично

This is a purely souvenir dagger, to be worn with a national dress. During Soviet Georgia, this was quite possible, despite the ban on carrying edged cold steel in public places. This dagger is of little value.
