I use to hate this at 10 because my parents would play this all the time, 50 years later I can see this was and still is timeless pure music

The people who disliked this medley just don’t know good music. They wouldn’t be satisfied no matter who played what. I remember during the 1960’s when you couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing some of Bert Kaempfert’s songs playing. He was one of the most popular orchestra leaders at that time!
All of his orchestra members were very talented besides Manfred Moch. Another particular member was Ladi Geisler, who was his bass guitarist, that popularized that unforgettable bass sound on a Fender Telecaster Bass Guitar.
Some of Kaempfert’s musicians also played for different orchestras such as James Last, Kai Warner, and Roberto Delgado. Kaempfert wrote and composed many popular songs that were recorded by different artists such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Wayne Newton. Like I said earlier, his sound was very unique and very popular during the 1960’s. To me, his music is timeless!

@@allenwillie8583 Yes, it is one of my favorite songs of Bert’s Orchestra too! They just don’t have music like this anymore. Nearly all of the greatest orchestra leaders, big band leaders, and song writers are no longer with us anymore. Music just isn’t the same anymore without these incredible and gifted people around. I miss those times!

Wonderful compilation here. Manfred Moch as lead soloist was a legend! Shame he fell out with Kaempfert in the late 1960s. The sound was never the same again. Just listen to his music in the 1970s, its not the same at least for me because Moch was not there.

Fred Moch did regret his decision as he stated in previous You Tube interviews. Not for us to dispute, this is also a music "business" and all parties have their concerns to evaluate.
I loved Fred Moch's beautiful solo trumpet work as I also loved Charly Tabor's but that's another story. Bert Kaempfert is the genius who created so many wonderful compositions and recordings and his name (along with Herbert Rehbein) will forever resonate with the imaginations in musical joy and on occasion remorse.

I really liked the unique style the bass guitar player did, and at the ripe ol age of 6 started to copy him on my six string acoustic. -but I wanted to be a bass player. Guitar lessons at 7; first garage band at 14. Played professionally all my life, and for that I thank Bert Kaempfert for his extraordinary music!!!

I'm 64yo musician as well. I think in some numbers that the double bass was superimposed with the electric bass to give that unique click bass sound. Not all numbers and not all occasions, and the electric bass player actually looked a bit awkward, but what a beautiful sound. And the on-off beat bass drum kick.

Thanks for posting this gem! Love that audience response when the first notes of "Strangers in the Night" are played. Great watching Manfred Moch play his trumpet - indeed all the members of the original Kaempfert recording orchestra, including Ladi Geisler and Rolf Ahrens! All so classy, and such a welcome - and timeless - refuge from the current screeching, thumping garbage posing as "music."
From the shades on the brass players on top tier, those early color television cameras must have required tons of light!
Gotta love Bert's smile as he's wrapping up "Strangers in the Night."

At about 3:55 there is a blond violinist who looks like he's about 14 years old. The conclusion of Strangers in the Night is VERY dramatic, more so than on the original recording. Also, watch Freddy Quinn do "Morgen Beginnt Die Welt," an original composition Kaempfert did specifically for this first color broadcast by Eurovision.

No auto-tune or backup tracks going on here--this is pure music, played live. Love it--the guys in the band with the shades on, great. Let's all admit it, the 1960's was a pretty cool decade.

      +MrMustacrackish
'That gorgeous woman' is Vivi Bach from Denmark, who made quite a career
in West-Germany in the 60s until early 70s, as a singer of the so-called 'Schlager'
(popular German hits) and as an "actress" in harmless, post-war feel-good movies.
The TV-show of this clip was a hit television show (late 60s until 1972) in West-Germany
called "Wünsch Dir was", which had astronomical rating figures on a Saturday
evening (it was a 'street sweeper', because everyone was glued to their TV set
instead of going out). They had the biggest international stars on.
She hosted the show together with her husband, famous Austrian-German actor
Dietmar Schönherr, standing next to her in this clip.
You might be attracted to the sound of her voice/words because she spoke
German with a very heavy and distinctive Danish accent, which many (German)
people find cute and funny. And some men find it particularly sweet. --
She deceased in 2013, her husband followed her in 2014.

+Solitaire - Interesting. Sound a bit like the American variety television program, "The Ed Sullivan Show." It aired on the U.S. TV network CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System) from the late 1940s until the early 1970s. The show featured just about every act imaginable, from opera to the Beetles to acrobats and magicians. Question for you: Any idea why Vivi switched from German to English when she introduces Bert Kaempfert, calling him "Mr. Hit Maker?"

+Nellie G. Cabo. - She pronounces Bert Kaempfert's name perfectly correct!
This is the German language, and her pronunciation of his German name
      is perfect(!) High German!
Her pronunciation of 'hitmaker' though is a little odd or sounds funny because here she reveals this slight Danish tone.
