Didn't sound polite to me. I guess we have different standards for what constitutes politeness. All we got from Barghouti were lies and ridiculous denials of facts that show him to be the complete and utter evil he is. He said Israeli propaganda is responsible for the idea that Hamas uses human shields, when it is well known that Nizar Rayan, one of Hamas' political leaders prior to his death, used the strategy to protect a building which had already received numerous warnings by the IDF in 2006. The strategy worked because the IDF called off the strike and they've employed it ever since. This is why they build tunnels below schools and hospitals. Barghouti wants the viewers to believe that there is no other space to build tunnels, a flat-out lie. But, he also omits the known fact that Hamas chose to build tunnels to protect its fighters, rather than bomb shelters to protect civilians. Hamas has laid the responsibility for protecting civilians in Gaza at the feet of the UN. Why anyone, who is not a blatant anti-Israel propagandist, like Barghouti, supports Hamas is beyond me.

Here's what I understand from the above original quote & Alan's book:
1 - I think there's a misinterpretation. I think what's being said by Fathi Hamed is that Palestinian soldiers, when they fight, act as shields when they defend women & children. It's not (necessarily) that women & children as used as human shields to deter attacks. So the 'human shields' are soldiers in the sense of being humans who are shields not civilians who are (voluntarily or) involuntarily forced in gunfire to deter attacks.
Lol. Alan sucks. That's what Alan gets for that issue with Bobby Fischer. Ben Shapiro rules. Ben proves human shields by saying there are recordings where civilians say they can't leave because Hamas won't let them or something.
2 - more importantly Alan is supposedly reading what was written in the book so how come it's very different? Eg there's no word 'regard' in either the book or the original. Honestly I think it was a timing issue. He was on a lag an no one else seemed to be, so I think he couldn’t respond in real time. He did seem evasive to the questions, but I think he was building up to something that he couldn’t get to the point of. I would have liked a longer form debate where he got the time to finish what he was going to say.

Mustafa Barghouthi could have been much more striking and convincing by using the right facts in his arguments. For example when he was asked about why hamas doesn't accept the hostage deal he could have mentioned the deal that hamas proposed few weeks ago and which was rejected by isreal. When Morgan argued that israelis hostages couldn't be compared with Palestinian prisoners he could have reminded of the Palestinian chlidren who are detained in administrative detention and the other Palestinian civilians who are imprisoned without charge. His arguments were rather weak while he could have easily roasted the propagandists he was dealing with. The only strong argument he made was to mention the Vietnamese and Mandela and the IRA, which obviously bothered them.
