When backing into tight spots, take the load leveling bars off. I have the same hitch and found that removing the bars always makes backing up much easier.
not always the best plan but sometimes if on loose dirt or gravel, you can skid the trailer maybe a foot to gain access. We just camped somewhere with a stump in exactly the same place a d same issue with slide... eventually got it in but it was a little sketchy.
I've been told by numerous long time rv'ers that you can actually damage your levelers by backing up with them attached....jus an FYI by the way nice truck.....my next one for sure.

We have been to Grand Teton/Yellowstone every year since 2001, sometimes multiple visits and it never gets old. There is something magical about entering those parks. Every time we go it still feels like the first time! This year 3 weeks at the end of August. Can’t wait. Please love and respect it during your visit.

My wife and I did Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP in July 2020 and had the exact same hail experience at Yellowstone but we were in a tent! It collapsed and got everything wet, while inconvenient it made for an unforgettable experience.
Oh wow, as concerned as we were with hail damage. We were worried about the people in the tents, we checked with all that were close to us and the all said they were fine. Most just went into there cars. Unforgettable indeed😃

First time we went, we had a 36 ft 5th wheel and was a last moment idea, so no reservations. But thanks to a couple of other campers helped us get into our spot. One guy even moved his RV so we had more room to back in. Been back a couple times, but now we take our cargo trailer.
The trick to backing into a tight spot, is the initial approach to the site and setup in preparation to backing into the site. My wife and I also carry 2-way radios (simple radios from Walmart) so we can easily communicate while she's spotting me, as I back in.
My wife and I are “half timers”. We spend about 6 to seven months a year in our 28ft TT. All our friends ask us why we don’t get a bigger one and this is why. National parks and National forest are, for the most part, older and just don’t have many spaces for bigger rigs. Personally, I would prefer even shorter, like our old 24ft, but we just couldn’t find one that would work for us when we brought the grandkids along. We love Yellowstone,and are avid wolf watchers, usually spending at least a couple weeks there every year. (We are however going to skip this year because of road work that is going on.). If you haven’t been to Glacier, Yellowstone, and Teton, please put it on your bucket list. Cell service as noted is practically non existent, ( that should change soon as the park is allowing some towers to be build.) so plan ahead!
That’s full time 😎 32 feet or less and your golden(were 35.5)! I don’t blame you for staying short! Even we are constantly dwarfed when we park next to other full time RVrs . That’s good news about the cell towers, well I think it’s good... we have been to Glacier 3 times we will be there in a couple episodes for the second time we visited. We came to Yellowstone from the Tetons (previous episode to this)
I have found most RV’ers don’t buy an RV and then upgrade to a larger one they typically buy too big of an RV and then have to buy a smaller one after they’ve gained some wisdom and insight!
I learned something new by reading the comments I never thought of disconnecting my weight distribution bars when backing into tight spots. That's a good tip everybody thanks
I own a 36 ft travel trailer and I found tight spots taking the sway bars off gives me a little more wiggle room and easier to maneuver the rig around. Hope this helps.
Hi Cory and Jess, I don't know if it would help you, but I have a receiver hitch on the front of my truck, and in tight spots, I unhitch from the back, turn the truck around, and couple up to the front. I can really turn the rig much tighter this way, but it does require some mental gymnastics if you are used to always reversing. It also proved useful for pushing our boat down slipways!
That’s definitely a good idea! We haven’t since this time put ourselves in a situation like this one. It was a stressed situation, and that’s why we decided to call it quits before something worse happened. I used to move boats around with a fork lift at my shop, so much more maneuverable from the front like you say! Thank you!
Yellowstone/NP Campgrounds: Hence the reason that we just stayed at Grizzly in West Yellowstone, MT. I noticed, you don't take off your WD/Sway bars when navigating tight campgrounds? Nice video. Stay safe!
This is why I love my 4x4 crewcab longbed 4 season truck camper , I can go anywhere and can tow my boat when I want to. We also have a 7x12 cargo trailer for our side by side and other toys.
Great video!!! We visited Yellowstone June 2020 during our out west trip from Ohio. Hit 15 national parks in 87 days. Yellowstone is at the top! We camped in West Yellowstone at a private rv park. Very nice. I would also recommend Henry's Lake State Park in Idaho. It's just a few minutes down the road from West Yellowstone.

Most people don’t realize you need to take off your anti-sway bars before you do maneuvering into your campsite especially if it’s more than just a easy straight back. You do not want to put your hitch into a bind. It’s not what it’s designed for. Remove that equipment and even your electrical cord if you can.
Don't need to take 'em off, just loosen them down to the last chain link and they dangle nicely and do not bind. More importantly, the anti-sway (if present) should be loosened to allow the pivot with ease. The SOLUTION, if you want one, is to install a front hitch. You could put that trailer in much more easily, because the steer tires are much closer to the pivot point.
Been there done that. Golf size hail. To help protect, get some swimming noodles lay on windshield and cover with sheet. Use 100 LBs strong wind put two in one spot or 200 Lb's magnets there small but strong, to hold the sheet down.
I’m definitely making a conscious effort to improve my patience. I get frustrated on some level nearly every time I back in. Even The kids cheering me on probably would have added to the frustration for me. This was an excellent example of having the right mindset for this type of adventure...Relax and have fun!
Of course it is "Magical".! You are driving, walking and vegetating ON TOP OF A MASSIVE VOLCANO..!! Don't forget your "morning and nightly Prayers" LOL.
Been to Yellowstone and the Tetons 4 times. The last time was August 2018 and I spent 4 days there, the other three trips were a day to go through. It was amazing being there for those four days I used a day for different areas of the park. You should install some vent covers over your vents. It allows them to be open in all kinds of weather. My Dad installed some on our old 24ft prowler and it was awesome. We could have the vent open and didn't have to worry about rain or snow (we mostly used the trailer from November to April for Skiing) coming in the vents
Yellowstone is a Awesome place. I was there in July 2019 and was lucky enough to be there on the 4th of July to witness the Fireworks display in West Yellowstone.:-)
I watch you tube videos of Yellowstone somewhat regularly because it’s my second favorite place on the planet, (right behind my home town, and that’s just because of my roots) and this is hands down my favorite, y’all took me back. I miss the smell and those roads, even the traffic jams and even the hail. I guess just YNP being YNP. Hope your truck and rig are ok, but seriously, thanks for giving it that American family vacation feel.

If you’re ever in west Texas, El Paso is about 4 hours from my second favorite park, Big Bend NP. It’s absolutely majestic. In EP, we have mountains that allow you to see two nations and 3 states all from one spot, Franklin Mountain State Park, and Mexican food to write home about. Swing by!

Wow, what a way to end a video. That sounded intense on the video I can only imagine what it must have been like in real life. We just started our “Someday” on July 6th, so we’re going to have to get used to things like that at some point in the journey-to-come. One thing you made very clear is that having plenty of LED lights and portable lamps is an absolute must. The sights and sounds of Yellowstone makes me want to see it now more than ever, however we’re going to wait until the flood repairs make it safe to travel again.
Of all the RV's we had, loved our 5th wheel. Trouble was we lived at the end of a cul-de-sac with old neighbors who couldn't wait till I backed in my drive. Kinda love our 30' motorhome and tow behind car.
@@FindingOurSomeday I've recently discovered that all three of our kids loved RV camping. They stopped going with us as they got jobs and got bored. Now every one of them has an RV.

I was glad I didn’t attempt to fit my travel trailer in the park. I stayed outside of Cody on the East entrance. My favorite trip addition was to download the audio tour.
Another quick tip is that if you don’t have airbag suspension helpers you should definitely invest in them. They make a huge difference in towing comfort. I have an extended hitch on my truck that was designed to be a Pintle type hitch and it sticks out about a foot from the rear of the truck. One big advantage is that when making a tight swing. It helps swing the trailer closer to the trucks tire tracks. You wouldn’t believe how much this little thing helps.
The airbag helper springs are the single most helpful thing I’ve ever done to my truck. If you need to carry a heavy load you just air them up and go. When you don’t need them air down abd the comfortable ride isn’t compromised.
All I could think of was "oh man Corey's truck is getting dirty!!!" Glad you guys were able to maneuver your way into the other site. We can't wait to visit Yellowstone - some day! Stay safe out there guys 😀
@@FindingOurSomeday In my past travel trailer days with just my wife and myself, I discovered using 2 way radios (walki-talkies) to help with backing into rv sites and avoid having to jump out and in and screaming at each other to get parked. I just happened to stumble across your site and haven't read much info. about your ch.. You may already use that method by using more up to date devices that I could not tell by only watching just 1 or 2 vids. I understand how stressful rving can be at times like that, I've been there. It's been 10-12 years since my travel trailer days and I know a lot has changed. Just thought I could pass on a bit of helpful knowledge. Just sayin.
Oh...the backwards back in 27’ site. We did that last summer at Madison Campground. We back and filled about 12 times. It was so tight with stumps and lodgepole pines and log bumpers on the road edges. We tried so hard to watch, watch, watch. We put a slight crease in a side where we just kissed a lodgepole. We got it in. Getting it out was easier. We are trying Grant Village campground this coming summer. We are hitting Grand Teton after Yellowstone this summer. Love being able to reserve ahead this year. Scored a spot at Gros Ventre with Electric.
We only have one slide out, our RV isn’t actually that big, this wasn’t our first time in the park with our RV, and we did fit. The mistake was not checking the 2 sites beforehand, assuming the rangers would know the better site for us. It’s all part of life on the road😃
Sometimes you get tired and overwhelmed. It happens. I've helped a few put rigs in places they were having trouble by me backing in for them. It definitely took some trust to let a stranger or friend maneuver their rig. 30 years putting large rigs in tight spots professionally and for myself. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes can be a huge help.
Yup that was why we just moved on, the wide angle makes the area look bigger then it is. If I wasn’t going to possibly block traffic I might have taken another run at it.
@@FindingOurSomeday if I can offer a tip, and of course you have to watch for overhang if your trailer has it, mist rvs have some, is to watch where your tires are going....wherever they go, your trailer is going. A lot of people get too preoccupied with the tail, and with the overhang, it will change drastically from where you think its going as you are turning. Its a concept that many people don't understand and can relate to backing long and huge rigs. I run a 40ft 5th wheel with a f450 longbed and there really isn't too many places i can't get into. Be safe and happy travels...
As always, great job moving the trailer. I often use low range when working a tight spot. I find the truck moves the load more controlled. Might not have worked for what you were trying to do. Just a thought.
Yep I feel your pain. We went to Yellowstone in May 2021. New 32 foot trailer. We could not fit in the pull through we reserved. I had to back into the pull through. It was very tight.
We live in Wyoming. We had a hailstorm 2 days ago. They were an inch in diameter. I wouldn’t think of taking our RV through Yellowstone. Glad you had fun.
Just a hint of advice from someone that’s been pulling large trailers for many years. When you are in a bind, sometimes you can unhook and reposition the truck to get lined up better abd get into the spot. I have had to do this a few times and sometimes it makes the difference of getting into your spot and not.
I had to do this when we first got the trailer (one of our first episodes) I put myself in a bad spot. I disconnected the trailer, reposition the truck and the situation became a non issue!good advise thank you!
Another suggestion I would make is to remove your leveler bars. At least I did every time I backed into my spot. They put a lot of tension on the truck and trailer.
When my parents retired years ago their first RV was a class a and it was enormous and off they went. My mother came back with so many stories of my pop scraping the trees losing hubcaps, on and on and on and I swear he went two shades grayer that first trip. Over the years they downsized until they ended up in a class C. You kids are living the dream. Good in ya! 🙂👍🏻
Next time it would be a good idea to unhook your swaybars/load leavers. It puts a lot stress on those parts when backing up and making tight turns. Good work though 👍

I visited and left my ❤️ in Yellowstone in 2019. Ate at the restaurant at mammoth...best darn food and bread was soooo incredibly fresh....must be the minerals in the water. Love this place!
Get some walkie-talkies four of them and that will illuminate your stress levels and yelling out loud to give directions from all corners of your vehicle especially when you have two or three people to help out walkie-talkies are the only way to go, makes it much easier to back in when you can have somebody say cut, left cut right, sharper straighten it out all those commands will help immensely when backing. Also when in Yellowstone as I grew up around there think of it as a giant theme park and that you can encounter people at any time the speed limit is 45 , most of the time you’ll never be traveling that fast, and watch out for Bigfoot he lives in the Area we’re all the big boulder fields are! Get an Elon musk star link 99 bucks a month you’ll have your own direct satellite link with 250 Mb speed can’t beat it take it everywhere...
We have radios, we just always forget to use them🙈🤦♂️ for the most part I just watch her hand signals in the rear camera. And when we’re in service (99% of the time) i just talk to her phone through the truck. Star link will definitely be a game changer when it goes mobile😎
I totally agree. I have a ham license and radios and use the public bands since wife doesn't have one when we back in. Makes it much more effective and less stress (and arguing).
As far as the phones go for communication when pulling in and setting up, I bought a 4 pack of baofeng radios, like ham radios but GMRS band. The license is $70 for 10 years and everyone in your immediate family can use them. They are 15 Chanel but unlike the public bands nobody is on the frequency. The radios transmit about 5 miles in terrain and 15 miles in flat ground. My wife and I use those especially when no cell services is available
My husband about threw up watching it hail! He loves his truck! We’ll be at the Tetons in July and just setting up camp at Colter Bay for 5 days. On the fence about driving up to the North entrance but this makes me want to go now. We’ll have about 2 days in Yellowstone. Would love to have more but drive time from SC and the amount of vacation my husband can take, just won’t allow for more.
I felt like throwing up when it first started 😳 the sound is deafening in the RV! 2 days is plenty of time to see the major parts of Yellowstone, especially if you start early, the earlier you start the less people, less traffic. We did another video from Yellowstone (and another one tomorrow) and we essentially did all of Yellowstone in a day and a morning(episode 21) .

We visit every year to both Teton National Park and Yellowstone. We learned very early on that staying just outside the park is easier and with full hookups. The key is to allow yourself enough time to see everything.
My perfect size travel trailer - 20'-22', 15" wheels with no slide. Can go anywhere an overland trailer can go. By the way, I prefer the tradition fold-up steps under the door, not the solid step that folds into the door.
You can definitely put a 22 ft wherever, even a 30 foot is quite a bit more maneuverable then our 35 1/2 footer. The fold up stairs are faster for sure! The storage box sold me on it, and it’s so much more pleasant when we are parked for more then a couple days. The whole RV used to move whenever someone came in or out. We prefer it, but I get that it isn’t for everyone!
This why you stay in west yellow stone and go in with out the rv, went there two years ago and I'm glad we stayed in town. Plus avoiding damage to my trailer
That is something we love about them, but since we are living on the road full time and not on vacation, it causes us to have to be more creative for work and school! 😃
its for vacation,,,,not for communication or work. If your friends and family cant do without you for several days, you shouldnt have come,,,,its a VACATION from those things
Hey Cory. Do know if you put a hitch on the front of your truck ,you would be able to maneuver spots like that a lot easier .. we did it on a van Tobe able to maneuver a 26ft cabin cruiser into tight spots . It really does help .
We will be staying in Gardiner, MT for 7 days to explore the norther portion of the Park in July... this VIDEO, makes me even more impatient!!! LOL! AWESOME JOB!
I tent camped in Yellowstone decades ago in early May and got very seriously snowed out, like the entire park was evacuated. At that elevation, any weather is volatile, regardless of time of year, and campers of all sorts need to keep this in mind. It's a gorgeous park, well worth visiting, but dangerous also. Be prepared...

Great video. Just a few things. 1. Lamar valley and Hayden valley are where the most wildlife is not the southern part, FYI. 2. Just because you are in a rush and people are actually using turnouts to see wildlife and features how about respect the park. Also way to go when getting off the road and worrying about the truck more than the park.
Great comment. Just a few things 1. Any reference to wildlife was only directly related to the 2 roads that run north to south . One road has more wildlife then the other, the lake side. 2. The traffic comments were purely a PSA to stay alert when driving through national parks, We have driven through many, many National Parks and know exactly what to expect. 3. I honestly have no idea what your talking about. Yes I like my truck, most of my talk about it is humor though. I was however taught growing up to take care of the things you own, and respect other people’s property. We make every effort to leave a place better then when we arrive. Have a good week!
This is exactly why it's best to avoid National Parks. You'll get settle into your campsite and comfy, then family of hopeful campers comes along to spoil the tranquility while they jockey their too-big camper where it doesn't belong, with all the ensuing chaos.
Years ago we visited Yellowstone. We parked at Old Faithful and crossed the parking lot to the medical clinic. Our son was having an allergic reaction to the pollen. After treatment we went back to the geyser.
It may look like that to you , but don’t let those wimpy side mirrors fool you😂 it’s a 3/4 ton diesel capable of pulling almost twice that trailer . That particular section of a national park campground, yes too big.
@@leewaldorf6650 that was the plan at purchase, but the process is much more involved that I realized when we bought it and with our rear camera they have worked just fine after 3 years on the road.
Dude, I am so glad I watched this video. Originally when we first looked at getting a travel trailer my wife would not settle for anything less than 30 ft.. After 10 years we finally bought a 22'3" Rockwood Mini Lite. I can so see the advantage of small size....if you are obviously traveling as two people and not 4. We have road tripped to Yellowstone but plan to stay there in 2025 with our trailer. Fred in Texas
Not going to argue that statement, you sir are a genius 😂 no problems here though , we’ve been on the road over three years circling America as many times including Alaska. I’ve backed into hundreds of tights spots. Dont let the wide angle fool you on how big that site was . I’m not saying it couldn’t have been done, but I didn’t want to block the road and hold anyone up, and risk someone else in the site across from me when it was time to pull out. I knew what was on the road and in the park at that time and decided even if I did get in it could be a whole new hassle getting out, I cut my losses and decided to move on.
Lamar is incredible! Yellowstone is so diverse and has so much to offer! We have always had Yellowstone on the list of the top 4 things that everyone needs to see in their life, along with the Northern Lights, big trees in the Redwoods, and glaciers!
Yellowstone is an awesome place. We try to make it there every 4 years. COVID set us back this year. Jenny Lake in Grand Tetons is my favorite place to visit.
Yeah...I use to live within a 5 hr drive from Yellowstone and our family has been there been there alot! Inclimate weather is expected when visiting, so beware of that. We've been snowed on several times, and have experienced hail as well. So, if you see clouds, close your vents and open up windows instead. Always close vents at night just in case, unless it's rare, and actually hot. We love Yellowstone! It's a magical place. Madison campground has electric hookups and drive-through camping grounds. It's advice to not take RV's over 30' with 27' being optimal for length.

We always get out and walk our spot first no matter where we go. We normally need pull thru but especially if theirs any backing I walkways wanna check out the approach etc...
You got off lucky with that hail storm. It hit here 80 miles away with tennis ball size stones and totaled my travel trailer roof, siding and all the vents and lights.
The white waterfall formation looks like mounds of soapsuds! Did you know...(I only just learned) that when there's a double rainbow, the colors are reversed in the secondary one? Tower falls was gorgeous. I don't have a budget for travel, so I"m loving everyone's trip videos--living vicariously. Love your daughter's coined word..."slangry." LOL
Lol..and I use a Subaru Crosstrek with an ARB Awning room attached. Took me 3 times to back into a spot one time (didn’t want to take my Goal Zero out to hook up power). Ranger laughed watching me & said “please don’t consider pulling a trailer..ever😂

We stayed at colter bay rv park near jackson lake that was beautiful and fishing bridge in Yellowstone plenty of room to get around at both places, we'd love to return some day, nice video thanks
This really answered one of my debates I have been having on a larger trailer for our family of 5. I'll probably lean more towards the Grand Design 278BH since it gives the mobility of about a 27ft bumper pull and only a few inches taller. We currently squeeze into a 22ft bunkhouse with no slides so anything would work better for us, but turn radius really seems to be the key to national parks!

Went to Yellowstone for first and only time in 2005. Saw most of the big animals on the drive up to our cabin including the two largest Bull Elk I've ever seen in my life they were Jurassic sized. Went out the North Gate where you are at now in video and drove up a mountain in Montana to go horseback riding.
Drop the bars on your hitch. You can see the truck and trailer fighting each other. Plus you can easily bend your trailer tongue or truck frame turning that tight with the bars attached.
Not sure if anyone has suggested this but if you put a trailer hitch on the front of your truck it makes putting a trailer almost anywhere much easier .
A few people have suggested it, It’s a great idea! We actually arnt in places this tight usually. In over three years this is the only time something like this has happened !
I have been there to photograph wildlife in the winter. Something I will never forget and my wife and I went in the fall also, which is a completely different experience and we are heading back there May '21. Can't wait. Thanks for sharing your story 👍
I have been to YELLOWSTONE many time's about 10 times went back in 2020 and I can say I am not going back , YELLOWSTONE has got to Commercialized.The best time I had in YELLOWSTONE was in the 60
I can only imagine how incredible it must have been in the 60s , a true adventure I’m sure! It’s flooded with people now... we try to hit most places off season, this wasn’t one of those times.

Always remove the sway bars when backing up and a tight turn. Never be afraid to unhook and reposition your tow vehicle
Yes, this is what I do when I am trying to get into a tight space.
Makes a massive difference
When backing into tight spots, take the load leveling bars off. I have the same hitch and found that removing the bars always makes backing up much easier.
not always the best plan but sometimes if on loose dirt or gravel, you can skid the trailer maybe a foot to gain access. We just camped somewhere with a stump in exactly the same place a d same issue with slide... eventually got it in but it was a little sketchy.
I've been told by numerous long time rv'ers that you can actually damage your levelers by backing up with them attached....jus an FYI

I added a front hitch receiver also. You can really maneuver when your steer wheels are close to the hitch. Like using a forklift to move a trailer

We have been to Grand Teton/Yellowstone every year since 2001, sometimes multiple visits and it never gets old. There is something magical about entering those parks. Every time we go it still feels like the first time! This year 3 weeks at the end of August. Can’t wait. Please love and respect it during your visit.

My wife and I did Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP in July 2020 and had the exact same hail experience at Yellowstone but we were in a tent! It collapsed and got everything wet, while inconvenient it made for an unforgettable experience.
Oh wow, as concerned as we were with hail damage. We were worried about the people in the tents, we checked with all that were close to us and the all said they were fine. Most just went into there cars. Unforgettable indeed😃

First time we went, we had a 36 ft 5th wheel and was a last moment idea, so no reservations. But thanks to a couple of other campers helped us get into our spot. One guy even moved his RV so we had more room to back in. Been back a couple times, but now we take our cargo trailer.

The trick to backing into a tight spot, is the initial approach to the site and setup in preparation to backing into the site. My wife and I also carry 2-way radios (simple radios from Walmart) so we can easily communicate while she's spotting me, as I back in.
My wife and I are “half timers”. We spend about 6 to seven months a year in our 28ft TT. All our friends ask us why we don’t get a bigger one and this is why. National parks and National forest are, for the most part, older and just don’t have many spaces for bigger rigs. Personally, I would prefer even shorter, like our old 24ft, but we just couldn’t find one that would work for us when we brought the grandkids along. We love Yellowstone,and are avid wolf watchers, usually spending at least a couple weeks there every year. (We are however going to skip this year because of road work that is going on.). If you haven’t been to Glacier, Yellowstone, and Teton, please put it on your bucket list. Cell service as noted is practically non existent, ( that should change soon as the park is allowing some towers to be build.) so plan ahead!
That’s full time 😎 32 feet or less and your golden(were 35.5)! I don’t blame you for staying short! Even we are constantly dwarfed when we park next to other full time RVrs . That’s good news about the cell towers, well I think it’s good... we have been to Glacier 3 times we will be there in a couple episodes for the second time we visited. We came to Yellowstone from the Tetons (previous episode to this)
I have found most RV’ers don’t buy an RV and then upgrade to a larger one they typically buy too big of an RV and then have to buy a smaller one after they’ve gained some wisdom and insight!
Have you ever disconnected your sway control before trying to get into tight spots. It's now a step in my backup process.
I do that as well. When I get out to check before backing up is when I take it off.

I own a 36 ft travel trailer and I found tight spots taking the sway bars off gives me a little more wiggle room and easier to maneuver the rig around. Hope this helps.
Hi Cory and Jess, I don't know if it would help you, but I have a receiver hitch on the front of my truck, and in tight spots, I unhitch from the back, turn the truck around, and couple up to the front. I can really turn the rig much tighter this way, but it does require some mental gymnastics if you are used to always reversing. It also proved useful for pushing our boat down slipways!
That’s definitely a good idea! We haven’t since this time put ourselves in a situation like this one. It was a stressed situation, and that’s why we decided to call it quits before something worse happened. I used to move boats around with a fork lift at my shop, so much more maneuverable from the front like you say! Thank you!

I was going to suggest that they should try that. I take them off as soon as I check in. It makes maneuvering a lot easier and quieter.
This is why I love my 4x4 crewcab longbed 4 season truck camper , I can go anywhere and can tow my boat when I want to.
We also have a 7x12 cargo trailer for our side by side and other toys.

We visited Yellowstone June 2020 during our out west trip from Ohio. Hit 15 national parks in 87 days. Yellowstone is at the top!
We camped in West Yellowstone at a private rv park. Very nice. I would also recommend Henry's Lake State Park in Idaho. It's just a few minutes down the road from West Yellowstone.

ONE word for this.... RV PARK...actually it's 2 words.
Most people don’t realize you need to take off your anti-sway bars before you do maneuvering into your campsite especially if it’s more than just a easy straight back. You do not want to put your hitch into a bind. It’s not what it’s designed for. Remove that equipment and even your electrical cord if you can.
We definitely should have taken it off first for this, your right!
Don't need to take 'em off, just loosen them down to the last chain link and they dangle nicely and do not bind. More importantly, the anti-sway (if present) should be loosened to allow the pivot with ease. The SOLUTION, if you want one, is to install a front hitch. You could put that trailer in much more easily, because the steer tires are much closer to the pivot point.

Been there done that. Golf size hail. To help protect, get some swimming noodles lay on windshield and cover with sheet. Use 100 LBs strong wind put two in one spot or 200 Lb's magnets there small but strong, to hold the sheet down.

I’m definitely making a conscious effort to improve my patience. I get frustrated on some level nearly every time I back in. Even The kids cheering me on probably would have added to the frustration for me. This was an excellent example of having the right mindset for this type of adventure...Relax and have fun!

Been to Yellowstone and the Tetons 4 times. The last time was August 2018 and I spent 4 days there, the other three trips were a day to go through. It was amazing being there for those four days I used a day for different areas of the park.
You should install some vent covers over your vents. It allows them to be open in all kinds of weather. My Dad installed some on our old 24ft prowler and it was awesome. We could have the vent open and didn't have to worry about rain or snow (we mostly used the trailer from November to April for Skiing) coming in the vents
Yellowstone is a Awesome place. I was there in July 2019 and was lucky enough to be there on the 4th of July to witness the Fireworks display in West Yellowstone.:-)

I watch you tube videos of Yellowstone somewhat regularly because it’s my second favorite place on the planet, (right behind my home town, and that’s just because of my roots) and this is hands down my favorite, y’all took me back. I miss the smell and those roads, even the traffic jams and even the hail. I guess just YNP being YNP. Hope your truck and rig are ok, but seriously, thanks for giving it that American family vacation feel.

If you’re ever in west Texas, El Paso is about 4 hours from my second favorite park, Big Bend NP. It’s absolutely majestic. In EP, we have mountains that allow you to see two nations and 3 states all from one spot, Franklin Mountain State Park, and Mexican food to write home about. Swing by!

Wow, what a way to end a video. That sounded intense on the video I can only imagine what it must have been like in real life. We just started our “Someday” on July 6th, so we’re going to have to get used to things like that at some point in the journey-to-come. One thing you made very clear is that having plenty of LED lights and portable lamps is an absolute must. The sights and sounds of Yellowstone makes me want to see it now more than ever, however we’re going to wait until the flood repairs make it safe to travel again.
I had a couple bumper pulls. Now a fifth. Will never go back. Fifth wheels are much easier to park
They tow much shorter too!
Of all the RV's we had, loved our 5th wheel. Trouble was we lived at the end of a cul-de-sac with old neighbors who couldn't wait till I backed in my drive. Kinda love our 30' motorhome and tow behind car.

I was glad I didn’t attempt to fit my travel trailer in the park. I stayed outside of Cody on the East entrance. My favorite trip addition was to download the audio tour.

Another quick tip is that if you don’t have airbag suspension helpers you should definitely invest in them. They make a huge difference in towing comfort. I have an extended hitch on my truck that was designed to be a Pintle type hitch and it sticks out about a foot from the rear of the truck. One big advantage is that when making a tight swing. It helps swing the trailer closer to the trucks tire tracks. You wouldn’t believe how much this little thing helps.
Our hitch sits about a foot off the bumper as well, definitely helps with the tighter angles, I will be putting some airbags on😃
The airbag helper springs are the single most helpful thing I’ve ever done to my truck. If you need to carry a heavy load you just air them up and go. When you don’t need them air down abd the comfortable ride isn’t compromised.

@@FindingOurSomeday In my past travel trailer days with just my wife and myself, I discovered using 2 way radios (walki-talkies) to help with backing into rv sites and avoid having to jump out and in and screaming at each other to get parked. I just happened to stumble across your site and haven't read much info. about your ch.. You may already use that method by using more up to date devices that I could not tell by only watching just 1 or 2 vids. I understand how stressful rving can be at times like that, I've been there. It's been 10-12 years since my travel trailer days and I know a lot has changed. Just thought I could pass on a bit of helpful knowledge. Just sayin.

Oh...the backwards back in 27’ site. We did that last summer at Madison Campground. We back and filled about 12 times. It was so tight with stumps and lodgepole pines and log bumpers on the road edges. We tried so hard to watch, watch, watch. We put a slight crease in a side where we just kissed a lodgepole. We got it in. Getting it out was easier. We are trying Grant Village campground this coming summer. We are hitting Grand Teton after Yellowstone this summer. Love being able to reserve ahead this year. Scored a spot at Gros Ventre with Electric.

A little bit or research on the Internet would have shown that large trailers with multiple slide outs are not a good fit for the in park campgrounds.
We only have one slide out, our RV isn’t actually that big, this wasn’t our first time in the park with our RV, and we did fit. The mistake was not checking the 2 sites beforehand, assuming the rangers would know the better site for us. It’s all part of life on the road😃
Sometimes you get tired and overwhelmed. It happens. I've helped a few put rigs in places they were having trouble by me backing in for them. It definitely took some trust to let a stranger or friend maneuver their rig. 30 years putting large rigs in tight spots professionally and for myself. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes can be a huge help.
Yup that was why we just moved on, the wide angle makes the area look bigger then it is. If I wasn’t going to possibly block traffic I might have taken another run at it.
@@FindingOurSomeday if I can offer a tip, and of course you have to watch for overhang if your trailer has it, mist rvs have some, is to watch where your tires are going....wherever they go, your trailer is going. A lot of people get too preoccupied with the tail, and with the overhang, it will change drastically from where you think its going as you are turning. Its a concept that many people don't understand and can relate to backing long and huge rigs. I run a 40ft 5th wheel with a f450 longbed and there really isn't too many places i can't get into.

As always, great job moving the trailer. I often use low range when working a tight spot. I find the truck moves the load more controlled. Might not have worked for what you were trying to do. Just a thought.

Yep I feel your pain. We went to Yellowstone in May 2021. New 32 foot trailer. We could not fit in the pull through we reserved. I had to back into the pull through. It was very tight.

We live in Wyoming. We had a hailstorm 2 days ago. They were an inch in diameter. I wouldn’t think of taking our RV through Yellowstone. Glad you had fun.

Just a hint of advice from someone that’s been pulling large trailers for many years. When you are in a bind, sometimes you can unhook and reposition the truck to get lined up better abd get into the spot. I have had to do this a few times and sometimes it makes the difference of getting into your spot and not.
I had to do this when we first got the trailer (one of our first episodes) I put myself in a bad spot. I disconnected the trailer, reposition the truck and the situation became a non issue!good advise thank you!

Another suggestion I would make is to remove your leveler bars. At least I did every time I backed into my spot. They put a lot of tension on the truck and trailer.
When my parents retired years ago their first RV was a class a and it was enormous and off they went. My mother came back with so many stories of my pop scraping the trees losing hubcaps, on and on and on and I swear he went two shades grayer that first trip. Over the years they downsized until they ended up in a class C. You kids are living the dream. Good in ya! 🙂👍🏻
Next time it would be a good idea to unhook your swaybars/load leavers. It puts a lot stress on those parts when backing up and making tight turns. Good work though 👍

I visited and left my ❤️ in Yellowstone in 2019. Ate at the restaurant at mammoth...best darn food and bread was soooo incredibly fresh....must be the minerals in the water. Love this place!

Get some walkie-talkies four of them and that will illuminate your stress levels and yelling out loud to give directions from all corners of your vehicle especially when you have two or three people to help out walkie-talkies are the only way to go, makes it much easier to back in when you can have somebody say cut, left cut right, sharper straighten it out all those commands will help immensely when backing. Also when in Yellowstone as I grew up around there think of it as a giant theme park and that you can encounter people at any time the speed limit is 45 , most of the time you’ll never be traveling that fast, and watch out for Bigfoot he lives in the Area we’re all the big boulder fields are! Get an Elon musk star link 99 bucks a month you’ll have your own direct satellite link with 250 Mb speed can’t beat it take it everywhere...
We have radios, we just always forget to use them🙈🤦♂️ for the most part I just watch her hand signals in the rear camera. And when we’re in service (99% of the time) i just talk to her phone through the truck. Star link will definitely be a game changer when it goes mobile😎
I totally agree. I have a ham license and radios and use the public bands since wife doesn't have one when we back in. Makes it much more effective and less stress (and arguing).
I'm liking our 24ft 67 silver streak even better now. We camped in Yellowstone 4 days, great time
smaller trailer is always better in every way. Big trailers keep some out and that could be a good thing. You got a desert rig.
As far as the phones go for communication when pulling in and setting up, I bought a 4 pack of baofeng radios, like ham radios but GMRS band. The license is $70 for 10 years and everyone in your immediate family can use them. They are 15 Chanel but unlike the public bands nobody is on the frequency. The radios transmit about 5 miles in terrain and 15 miles in flat ground. My wife and I use those especially when no cell services is available

My husband about threw up watching it hail! He loves his truck! We’ll be at the Tetons in July and just setting up camp at Colter Bay for 5 days. On the fence about driving up to the North entrance but this makes me want to go now. We’ll have about 2 days in Yellowstone. Would love to have more but drive time from SC and the amount of vacation my husband can take, just won’t allow for more.
I felt like throwing up when it first started 😳 the sound is deafening in the RV! 2 days is plenty of time to see the major parts of Yellowstone, especially if you start early, the earlier you start the less people, less traffic. We did another video from Yellowstone (and another one tomorrow) and we essentially did all of Yellowstone in a day and a morning(episode 21) .

We visit every year to both Teton National Park and Yellowstone. We learned very early on that staying just outside the park is easier and with full hookups. The key is to allow yourself enough time to see everything.

My perfect size travel trailer - 20'-22', 15" wheels with no slide. Can go anywhere an overland trailer can go. By the way, I prefer the tradition fold-up steps under the door, not the solid step that folds into the door.
You can definitely put a 22 ft wherever, even a 30 foot is quite a bit more maneuverable then our 35 1/2 footer. The fold up stairs are faster for sure! The storage box sold me on it, and it’s so much more pleasant when we are parked for more then a couple days. The whole RV used to move whenever someone came in or out. We prefer it, but I get that it isn’t for everyone!
I loved Yellowstone! Family vacation when I was a kid and then again just a few years ago with husband and grandkids!
It’s definitely a place you can keep going back too! I hope we are able to go, like yourself, for many years to come.

That is something we love about them, but since we are living on the road full time and not on vacation, it causes us to have to be more creative for work and school! 😃

Hey Cory. Do know if you put a hitch on the front of your truck ,you would be able to maneuver spots like that a lot easier .. we did it on a van Tobe able to maneuver a 26ft cabin cruiser into tight spots . It really does help .

I have hated hugh trailer campers
I tent camped in Yellowstone decades ago in early May and got very seriously snowed out, like the entire park was evacuated. At that elevation, any weather is volatile, regardless of time of year, and campers of all sorts need to keep this in mind. It's a gorgeous park, well worth visiting, but dangerous also. Be prepared...
Thank you for posting that info. I wouldn't have even thought of snow that late. Must remember to consider elevations. Yellowstone is on our bucket list.

Great video. Just a few things.
1. Lamar valley and Hayden valley are where the most wildlife is not the southern part, FYI.
2. Just because you are in a rush and people are actually using turnouts to see wildlife and features how about respect the park. Also way to go when getting off the road and worrying about the truck more than the park.

1. Any reference to wildlife was only directly related to the 2 roads that run north to south . One road has more wildlife then the other, the lake side. 2. The traffic comments were purely a PSA to stay alert when driving through national parks, We have driven through many, many National Parks and know exactly what to expect. 3. I honestly have no idea what your talking about. Yes I like my truck, most of my talk about it is humor though. I was however taught growing up to take care of the things you own, and respect other people’s property. We make every effort to leave a place better then when we arrive. Have a good week!
This is exactly why it's best to avoid National Parks. You'll get settle into your campsite and comfy, then family of hopeful campers comes along to spoil the tranquility while they jockey their too-big camper where it doesn't belong, with all the ensuing chaos.

Years ago we visited Yellowstone. We parked at Old Faithful and crossed the parking lot to the medical clinic. Our son was having an allergic reaction to the pollen. After treatment we went back to the geyser.
It looks like you have way too much trailer for that truck and way too much trailer for national parks
It may look like that to you , but don’t let those wimpy side mirrors fool you😂 it’s a 3/4 ton diesel capable of pulling almost twice that trailer . That particular section of a national park campground, yes too big.
That was my first thing I thought of, you definitely need some new mirrors. Great looking setup though. Enjoy.
@@leewaldorf6650 that was the plan at purchase, but the process is much more involved that I realized when we bought it and with our rear camera they have worked just fine after 3 years on the road.
It’s always an added plus when other rv owners park vehicles in the road making entering and exiting sites so much more fun.

Dude, I am so glad I watched this video. Originally when we first looked at getting a travel trailer my wife would not settle for anything less than 30 ft.. After 10 years we finally bought a 22'3" Rockwood Mini Lite. I can so see the advantage of small size....if you are obviously traveling as two people and not 4. We have road tripped to Yellowstone but plan to stay there in 2025 with our trailer. Fred in Texas
If you can't back a trailer up, then you shouldn't own one. Practice with cones in a empty parking lot... learn some skills

Not going to argue that statement, you sir are a genius 😂 no problems here though , we’ve been on the road over three years circling America as many times including Alaska. I’ve backed into hundreds of tights spots. Dont let the wide angle fool you on how big that site was . I’m not saying it couldn’t have been done, but I didn’t want to block the road and hold anyone up, and risk someone else in the site across from me when it was time to pull out. I knew what was on the road and in the park at that time and decided even if I did get in it could be a whole new hassle getting out, I cut my losses and decided to move on.

I drove through Yellowstone in July. I loved it. Lamar Valley was my favorite. I saw 100’s of bison.
Lamar is incredible! Yellowstone is so diverse and has so much to offer! We have always had Yellowstone on the list of the top 4 things that everyone needs to see in their life, along with the Northern Lights, big trees in the Redwoods, and glaciers!
Yellowstone is an awesome place. We try to make it there every 4 years. COVID set us back this year. Jenny Lake in Grand Tetons is my favorite place to visit.

Yeah...I use to live within a 5 hr drive from Yellowstone and our family has been there been there alot! Inclimate weather is expected when visiting, so beware of that. We've been snowed on several times, and have experienced hail as well. So, if you see clouds, close your vents and open up windows instead. Always close vents at night just in case, unless it's rare, and actually hot. We love Yellowstone! It's a magical place. Madison campground has electric hookups and drive-through camping grounds. It's advice to not take RV's over 30' with 27' being optimal for length.
WE love watching your videos, and see how much has changed since we first visited Yellowstone, our first visit was 1968, just married on our way to our first duty station.

We always get out and walk our spot first no matter where we go. We normally need pull thru but especially if theirs any backing I walkways wanna check out the approach etc...

You got off lucky with that hail storm. It hit here 80 miles away with tennis ball size stones and totaled my travel trailer roof, siding and all the vents and lights.
You must get walk-in-talkies. Brings the stress level way down especially for the spotter.

The white waterfall formation looks like mounds of soapsuds! Did you know...(I only just learned) that when there's a double rainbow, the colors are reversed in the secondary one?

Lol..and I use a Subaru Crosstrek with an ARB Awning room attached. Took me 3 times to back into a spot one time (didn’t want to take my Goal Zero out to hook up power). Ranger laughed watching me & said “please don’t consider pulling a trailer..ever😂

We stayed at colter bay rv park near jackson lake that was beautiful and fishing bridge in Yellowstone plenty of room to get around at both places, we'd love to return some day, nice video thanks

This really answered one of my debates I have been having on a larger trailer for our family of 5. I'll probably lean more towards the Grand Design 278BH since it gives the mobility of about a 27ft bumper pull and only a few inches taller. We currently squeeze into a 22ft bunkhouse with no slides so anything would work better for us, but turn radius really seems to be the key to national parks!

Went to Yellowstone for first and only time in 2005. Saw most of the big animals on the drive up to our cabin including the two largest Bull Elk I've ever seen in my life they were Jurassic sized. Went out the North Gate where you are at now in video and drove up a mountain in Montana to go horseback riding.
Drop the bars on your hitch. You can see the truck and trailer fighting each other.
Plus you can easily bend your trailer tongue or truck frame turning that tight with the bars attached.
Not sure if anyone has suggested this but if you put a trailer hitch on the front of your truck it makes putting a trailer almost anywhere much easier .
A few people have suggested it, It’s a great idea! We actually arnt in places this tight usually. In over three years this is the only time something like this has happened !

I have been there to photograph wildlife in the winter. Something I will never forget and my wife and I went in the fall also, which is a completely different experience and we are heading back there May '21. Can't wait. Thanks for sharing your story 👍

I have been to YELLOWSTONE many time's about 10 times went back in 2020 and I can say I am not going back , YELLOWSTONE has got to Commercialized.The best time I had in YELLOWSTONE was in the 60
I can only imagine how incredible it must have been in the 60s , a true adventure I’m sure! It’s flooded with people now... we try to hit most places off season, this wasn’t one of those times.
Everything was better back then, but life goes on and I love going there
