Beulah Lee I am not disputing that, what you're saying actually reinforces my point. This speech was just that much better than any TED Talk that I've seen.
Exactly. Most TED talks are complete self-congratulatory drivel. People attend them just because a TED stamp is put on them, as if this were some sort of sign of greatness. Nowadays, every city and every university does a TEDx event, and the number of speakers (around the world each year) goes into tens of thousands. It's true that some may have an interesting personal perspective to offer, but most don't. It's all about memorizing your speech, practicing, and delivering it based on TEDx standards. There's zero spontaneity, zero off the cuff thinking, and zero ad-libbing. Which is why most TEDx presentations are boring as hell, come across as pretentious crap, and in 93% cases (of such talks) most people with half a brain won't learn anything new.

It IS refreshing hearing this. I'm going into 10th grade and throughout my life teachers have constantly try to destroy intellectual hierarchies and the concept of the alpha male or ideal attractive female, but the ultimate plight of the education system comes to people being able to regurgitate all they hear in class on a test rather than genuine intelligence. People who are enjoying posting narcissistic photos 24/7 end up getting better grades than someone that spends time reading and watching informative pieces on psychology, philosophy and science.
Another Jordanism: Be a plumber. Be a good one. Be an honest one. Think I'll do that - right after i tell the truth, clean up my room and slay the dragon - and that's THAT, Bucko. I love this guy.
Jordan Peterson is in the top of his hierarchy, you can tell by the passion that emanates from him. We need to learn everything we can from his philosophy and views.
"So, you tell young people ‘I don't care what you gonna do but go out there and make something of yourself for god sake, be an honest person and work and get to the top of whatever it is that you wanna get to the top of. You know, and stand up for yourself like a respectable human beeing and be a bit of a light on a world insteed of a blight’. You know, and you can tell young people that and they haven't been told that by anyone now, so young man are so hungry for that that it's painful to watch. They are so reliefed when someone finally comes up and says ‘hey, you know, you get your act together a bit, discipline yourself, see if you can learn to tell the truth, concentrate on something for a year or two, you can be a bloody world beater’ they think ‘really? that's possible? that would be interesting, that might make life worth living’. It's like yeah, it might, so why ain't you gonna do it. That's what the damn universities were supossed to be teaching people, they've forgotten that." WHY NOBODY TOLD ME THAT EARLIER? WHY I LEARNED THAT NOW, WHEN I'M AT UNI?
Brought tears because he never really gets emotional. The last couple seconds you can hear it in his voice it is bringing him to tears as well. He cares. Great man.
Ahmed Chioua by reading many books, I think it's good to start with classics. Also, Dr. Peterson has a list of books that heavily influenced him to write Maps of Meaning, you should check them out
"You work with someone who knows what they're doing, it's a bloody pleasure. They tell you what they're gonna do, how much it will cost, they go and do it, it works, and you pay them. Perfect. Everyone's happy." Had that quote in mind today when I picked up my car from the shop. I'd never been there before so I was taking my chances. Had a busted wheel bearing and was overheating. Dropped it off at 7:15, had a call back by 9 with a diagnosis and a quote, I agreed, and the job was done by 3PM. The noise from the wheel bearing was gone and the car ran cool as a cucumber. I left them a nice google review. Everyone's happy. :)
Up until l this last May, I taught HS science for 17 years. I am taking a year off to move to another state. I have watched public education wither from the sad sack it already was to, 'this' that we have now. I can hardly believe it is worse, but it is. I've been saying these things my whole career. I only knew who Peterson was in the last two years. The man is in my head. I cannot believe that what I have been saying for almost two decades is what he teaches. I've had the same reactions from students he portrays in this talk. I have been vilified for saying these things by some colleagues and parents. And yet, my students, for whatever it is worth, score extremely high in science testing, but low in all other areas. Even the students that don't like me have grudgingly offered I do teach them things. Peterson is the light of leadership in a world that is starving of it. It's hard to be a person that will tell people the hard truths. Bcs often you become a target. Many give up. I did recently, but will regroup my thoughts and spirit and go on to teach somewhere else. Peterson's online classes have helped me find the courage and confidence to do that.
This is a message no one understands. Equality is the greatest illusion of all. Equality shouldnt even exist! Its not just! You can either have justice or equality.
UrbanDanger ! the irony of all this is that the egalitarian concept of equality originated from the French revolution... It was a powerfull ideological weapon back then. It still is, but under the guise of feminism/marxism...
Angel Alonso No, Im thinking of equality. And I fully stand behind my words. Equality is the key. People blabber on and on about equality, but its never going to happen. Its contrary to our biology.
Equality in the sense contemplated in, for example, the US Declaration of Independence, is not about equality of outcome, it's about equality of social condition. No one is entitled to special treatment due to the circumstances of their birth or other irrelevancies. It seems odd to us that this needed to be said, but it did: The prevailing political theory in Europe at the time featured the Divine Right of Kings. SWJs have twisted this idea into equality of outcomes, which is flat-out absurd. They've only been able to get away with it by co-opting a word that once expressed a useful sentiment, to which many Americans retain a patriotic attachment, and using it to label something else.
Anyone watching this video and reading this comment, please note that listening to this speech gives us a momentary boost, sought of momentary clarity , but often when you get to the actual grind, you realise that it's not easy, simple as you thought it would be. And then you fall back on old habits of procrasination and varied addictions. To avoid that cycle, listen to this particular video in a frequency of once every week. Not every day - but just once a week and keep moving forward. Do not listen to any other motivational video. Slowly reduce this video consumption to once every month. Then after a while you would have imbibed this motivation into your actual day to day action and you actually become something. DO NOT get addicted to listening to JP alone, take the motivation from one video of his, like this one and practice the lessons.
This was the video that changed my life. I was lost for years not knowing what career path to take. I was lost in a big loop and the worst thing is I knew that I was stuck in a loop, and never knew if I was going to break free from it. When Peterson started talking about being the best at something like a plumber or a carpenter etc, it sparked something inside me and I started to follow my passion for electricity and wiring from when I was a young kid. Now I'm currently on the path of getting a career as an electrician and I've never looked back, I love it!
Holy shit. I've never seen him raise his voice like that. it's frightening really. Better get my life back on track before Dr. Peterson raises his voice like that again.
I love Dr. Peterson and he was one of the people that helped me the most getting out of my bubble. However, my problems came from what he is incentivizing in this video: aiming for excellence. I became so blind to the world tying to be great at something that, only after 5 years of giving my soul to an activity, I realized that I was being brainwashed by society rather than doing something that was truly meaningful to me. I sold my life to success, I had no relationships and was extremely immature emotionally because of this tunnel vision mentality. Life is a lot more than being the best at something, try your hardest but never sacrifice your relationships and other aspects of life.
Having Dr. Peterson as a prof has been life-changing. He rose to fame in a time in which the modern world needs people like him the most. I recently wrote a spoken word on my channel with a lot of his teachings and philosophies. I think we need to spread his message as much as we can in order to redirect our collective mindset. Thank you for all you do Dr. Peterson.
Every single time I watch this video, the fire within me gets bigger and bigger. Thank you Dr Peterson and I hope you keep recovering and share some more wisdom soon!

That's what the damn universities were supossed to be teaching people, they've forgotten that."
WHY NOBODY TOLD ME THAT EARLIER? WHY I LEARNED THAT NOW, WHEN I'M AT UNI?
Better than where I am now at 27... but making a fast change during quarantine...
I could watch Jordan B. Peterson's videos all day but I need to get stuff done! He's the voice of reason and thank goodness he's around.
"HE GAVE US HOPE", this will read in his plaque.
Woah! He’s almost breaking into tears by the end of it! 👀
I wish someone would’ve told me that... Never mind , I’ll be sure to say this to my kids !
Peterson is the father figure I never had.
Brought tears because he never really gets emotional. The last couple seconds you can hear it in his voice it is bringing him to tears as well. He cares. Great man.
how does anyone become that articulated ??
Ahmed Chioua by reading many books, I think it's good to start with classics. Also, Dr. Peterson has a list of books that heavily influenced him to write Maps of Meaning, you should check them out
he also has alot of practice in speaking through giving lectures as a professor
He has read dozens of thousand books, written some others, and taught and researched for 30 years non stop with an IQ of approx 150.
Study and practice. Years of it.
I rant like this and don't even think about it. It's natural.
The passion that springs throughout the talk ensures us that he knows what he is talking about.
I love JP's "It's like, WRONG!" statements.
"You work with someone who knows what they're doing, it's a bloody pleasure. They tell you what they're gonna do, how much it will cost, they go and do it, it works, and you pay them. Perfect. Everyone's happy."
Had that quote in mind today when I picked up my car from the shop.
Exclamation mark properly used in the title. Every sentence he uttered ended with one. Jesus!

Kinda sad that so many seek equality without even knowing that it's an extremely communistic characteristic. Denying the truth.
My university lectures are so boring especially compared to these
James Doolan I loved my prof at uni, but God I wish I had classes with Dr Peterson!
Life is a lot more than being the best at something, try your hardest but never sacrifice your relationships and other aspects of life.
i love you internet dad
This video changed my life, I really have noticed my improvement since I watched it and I put myself in a responsable status !
My joints are always perfectly rolled...wait, what was he talking about again?
CeRocks sometimes I'll roll nice looking ones but they'll burn like shit
maybe you should work on perfecting a useful skill.
Hahahha comment of the decade dude, kudos
@Mike yessss! I've been using a mighty vape and it's the bees knees. But nothing beats a slow burning joint.
Interesting
No matter what is happening in my life. Listening to Dr Peterson always ignites me.
''Be... I had an plumber once, you know...''
- Jordan Peterson
Peterson.
What a great man !!!
Every single time I watch this video, the fire within me gets bigger and bigger. Thank you Dr Peterson and I hope you keep recovering and share some more wisdom soon!
you know shit is serious when JP is on the double mic XD
