Honest question: how have these videos not been taken down due to copyright (especially when you have almost 200k subscribers)? I'm looking to also post clips from the NHL like these but don't want to be guilty of copyright infringement. Can I avoid copyright infringement just by posting the same message that you have in your description about not owning the videos?
The company that owns the digital rights understands how much they benefit from random people uploading their content. The NHL channel has "Content ID claim" set up where it automatically copyright claims the videos. "If you upload a video that contains copyright-protected content, your video could get a Content ID claim. These claims are automatically generated when an uploaded video matches another video (or part of another video) in our Content ID system. Copyright owners can set Content ID to block uploads that match a copyrighted work they own the rights to. They can also allow the claimed content to remain on TH-cam with ads. In these cases, the advertising revenue goes to the copyright owners of the claimed content." Then you get a lovely email that tells you "A copyright owner using Content ID has claimed some material in your video. Your video is live and the visibility settings you selected remain applied to it. But it is now either being monetized by the copyright owner, or they have chosen to receive analytics about it. This is not a copyright strike. This claim does not affect your account status." The videos are not being taken down because that would result in the NHL channel losing quite a bit of money and I don't think they want that. They reached out to me a few years ago and even I asked if they were going to come after my channel at some point. From what I can gather, due to legal reasons they are not allowed to post any videos that show dirty hits, blood, fights, or any type of injury. Those are the types of videos that tend to get the most views so that's where we come into play. We can upload a video about bloody fights and they profit without promoting violence on their channel.
