  • Today I'm answering a question that I get all the time: "How can I create Technical Flats without spending $$$ on expensive software?!" It is entirely possible to create accurate, professional Technical Flats without buying programs like Adobe Illustrator. In fact, before vector programs, flats were drawn by hand! All you need for this tutorial are a few things you probably already have laying around your house and a little bit of patience!

The book I was using was actually 4x4 and I added lines to make it 8x8. For scaled Technical Drawings you should be using 8x8 quad ruled paper (8 squares per inch) because this allows you to draw in 1/8 scale. Here's some 8x8 paper that I found at Staples: www.staples.com/TOPS-Cross-Section-Pad-White-Quad-Ruled-8-1-2-x-11-50-Sheets/product_826797?ci_sku=826797&KPID=826797&cid=PS:GS:SBD:PLA:Paper&gclid=CjwKCAjwmqKJBhAWEiwAMvGt6HM678VQIhWSad9K86vBhTXqinqkcGsejH9-Gi17wDSLJyoFBI_GSBoC_OQQAvD_BwE
