From the perspective of someone who studied fashion, if other viewers want some advice : the moodboard here is not a moodboard lol You don't put 4 pictures that are so similar in a moodboard but rather choose other pictures that complete the whole vibe : think about interior design, a movie, a painting, a dancer, a furniture/clothing designer, maybe some food or some type of writing/calligraphy, find a muse... etc Also you can think about the 5 senses to create the whole atmosphere : what's the scent of the vibe? what textures/fabrics match the vibe? etc etc Anyway nice work, loved the video, and it's silly to expect from people who didn't go to art or fashion school already to have a complete and interesting portfolio bc WE'RE HERE TO LEARN
I’m applying to FIT and I was wondering if doing interpretive runway looks for my free designs was a good or bad idea. I’m using the idea of archetypes and playing with silloutte and the classic emotional connections we have with them rather than a functional, streetwear style. They aren’t the type of clothing you see out in the world, and are pretty strange. I have no idea if this is good or bad, would you have any advice on that?
@@morganbee1257 ok so I have a feeling that Morgan Bee already applied but for future people, I think this is good cause as long as you can communicate your designs well through drawing it will probably get you accepted :)
I like half agree.. cause on one hand yes it is pretty hard to teach yourself sewing from youtube videos even though there are good resources. Its just hard to teach yourself sewing.. but also like people who want to get in for fashion design usually have a pretty big interest in it and are willing to teach themselves design skills from free websites like youtube (Zoe Hong is a good channel to start with). As Abby says, she wasnt actually interested in fashion design and therefore didn't do so well. FIT is not a super competitive school, you just need to prove that you can express your ideas and gain inspiration through research. So don't worry, do your best and if you don't know how to do something, there are good videos online to watch to get practice :)
i got into fashion major in high school for 3 years and i can't even draw and sew like AT ALL and it turned out to be the most stressful 3 years of my life now i'm taking english literature in uni
My opinions on the sewing to help people here Garment one: looks like theres some puckering on the waist. Comes down to pressing the fabric and topstitching carefully. The facing on the neckline is also showing. Make sure to snip the seam allowance at the corner and pull/ press carefully. Otherwise, a very good dress. But I maybe wouldnt have done a princess seam. Garment 2: very impressed with this. However the bust point isnt rounded off enough. It looks like you did darts rather than a princess seam but i could be wrong. I also wouldve rounded off the armholes a little more if the harsh corner wasnt intentional. Attention to detail when photographing is impotant so make sure everything is ironed nicely. Also about your illustrations: i love the artstyle so much and it looks intentional to me, although you was missing design development for each of your designs. (The moodboard was also not a moodboard)
I really like the garment u made! I definitely can see some of the high craftsmanship. And it’s a good thing that u have including the detail pictures. The thing I will say is u need to showing more ur design process. Not just the final looks but also the process that tells people how did u make it. I don’t think the illustration it’s ur biggest problem. I really like ur drawing style. Ur mood board has to tells people ur concept and the muse. Right now it’s just the idea and the inspiration. I believe the school will like to see the concept that can change the world. Therefore, always think about how can u change the world by using fashion when u designing something! Good Luck!!

I hate how the school system works because how do they expect you to be good at it (like in order to get in) before going to school for it😭😭
RIGGGHTT!! like how is a 17 year old supposed to be perfect at all of this. it’s pretty frustrating
yeah right! and to get good you need to pay for a course beforehand which not everyone can afford :// its shit
Exactly🥹
Frr

I have a doubt Should we show the back view in an additional figure or is it ok show as flats.
it depends on your uni requirements, but as for FIT, flats are okay (for back views in the first part) as well :)
