Strong collection. When I was faced with this critical decision point, I had both blk and blue TT. In the metal side by side, the Bluesy was the clear winner, it wasn't even close. 5 months later I was able to get the 114060. They both compliment each other. Winter vs Summer, Day vs Night, Stealth vs King Tut touch. The Bluesy is magical when outdoors in the sun.
Had an opportunity to get my hands on the 41 black dial this year. First gold Rolex, when I put this watch on my wrist and felt the weight I was amazed. That feeling I had of power when I put that watch on for the first time, I still get it every time I put it on. Prayers everyone’s AD calls them this new year with their dream watch!
Great vid… I would have to see the blue and black in person before deciding. Just how bad are the scratches? Assuming just hairline, swirls not too deep?
Great video, I have the 40 and absolutely love it.. wasn’t a fan of sub stallone but something happened as soon as I wore one.. the weight, feel and darkish gold had me mesmerized and till date this is my daily beater..
This bad boy looks slick, no doubt. this goes well with your skin, too, agreed... I am also pretty pale, and I have noticed, while this piece does easily match your skin tone, if you have a gold hue watch that does not, you can just about make it work by matching it with another piece on your wardrobe like a belt buckle or something and an atypical color of jeans or something, burgundy or green or something. Then the somewhat "out of place" color of the accessory can become kind of like wearing a flashy pair of Air Jordans or a loud-ish jacket as a quirky centerpiece. Especially if it's an interesting watch, it can work... but I must admit you have to rock it with confidence... I have one watch of this tone and I must admit I don't wear it that much... but I bet if it were a more interesting watch i'd wear it more, despite fashion hurdles..
Congratulations on your latest addition to your vast and varied collection Damien. My only surprise is that you didn’t go for the yellow Sub with blue dial & bezel as I know you are a sucker for a blue dial. IMO that is the better combination as the vibrant dial will pop on a sunny summers day. I think that the solid gold versions look best when they age and become dulled by tarnishing. This is the reason that your full gold Speedmaster is so appealing to me. Would love to see a SOTC Full Gold episode.
I have 14 pieces in my collection inclusive of 6 Rolexes, 3 in solid gold. Let me ask you; do you ever get the feeling I get nowadays ‘ too many watches but not enough time’ …. holding me back to acquire more timepieces?
Awesome watch,it’s got nice weight and looks nice, thanks for a brilliant review fantastic collection, will be brilliant if an episode can be made on the other gold watches you have in your collection
It’s a really unusual hue of gold and quite subtle. Definitely not as showy as you might think a gold Rolex is going to be. Can have it’s downside though, if you’re in the mindset of wanting a gold watch you want it to be unabashedly GOLD! I do wish they brought back the nipple dials. I think they look amazing.
It’s impressive . Think it may be a bit heavy for my tastes . Nonetheless it’s a very cool watch ...I agree there’s an almost smokey lustre to solid gold Rolex which is breathtaking..
Ma786sai Dua lovely. Mine is a D series 2005 Daytona Cosmograph Ref 116528. Black face with 8 diamond dots. It is considered the ultimate solid-gold Rolex. Would you recommend I swap it for a solid gold Sub black face or a gold gmt 116718 with anniversary green dial?
That is an amazing collection that you have. I wonder if gold is becoming 'the new' steel. It's so difficult to get the Rolex steel tool watches, so gold may become more popular.
Regarding your reference to your Milgauss having a last gen movement is that a ref to rumours that the new gen movements have an inherent rate reduction after about 6 months ie running slow and needing in warranty regulation?
what a beautiful watch. i recently got the 114060 no date just weeks before it was discontinued, but i have been interested in this one for some time. like you mentioned, for a solid gold watch it's kind of understated and that appeals to me.
Hi Damian - I’ve a decision to make tomorrow. Despite no previous purchase history with any Rolex AD’s I’ve been fortunate to purchase 7 Steel Professional models from 5 different AD’s in the lat 3 years - James Cameron, Hulk, Batgirl, Explorer II Polar, 40mm Date and ‘No Date’ Sub, 41mm ‘No Date’ Sub. I’ve now been offered the Sea-Dweller 126603 Rolesor from an AD with a £300 discount. I’m also considering a preowned unworn Milgauss white dial, from an independent dealer, with some stickers and a 2020 warranty card £2K over current Milgauss retail, although I would expect to negotiate a lower price if I opt for this. I buy all my watches to keep, rotate and wear 24/7. Your valued opinion and rationale would be much appreciated 🤓
Hi MacRolex - good effort so far! My view on the SD Rolesor is... I hate it, but you may love it. For me, if I had one, I would sell it on instantly. The white dial Milgauss I absolutely love, it's one of my favourite Rolexes. £2k over is about what they cost, but I think it's worth it. That's what I had to pay.
@@TheWatchGuysTV Considering I had a standing start 4 years ago I’m really pleased with my collection. It’s been a lot of time and effort - think I’ve contacted virtually every 🇬🇧 AD either by visiting, telephone or email. About 10 showed a genuine interested and after nothing for 18 months all my buses seemed to arrive at once and 5 came good! 🤩 Thanks for your forthright advice - the dealer is asking £8.5K for the Milgauss which seems fair. Adding another steel piece to the collection rather than Rolesor and keeping some money in the watch fund does seem more sensible. Interesting that you rate the Milgauss so highly with all your fantastic pieces. Is it particularly the aesthetics of the white dial that you like so much?
@@TheWatchGuysTV Made my decision Damian - I’ve just purchased a 2008 unworn, stickered, box/papers+original Goldsmiths receipt that was kept in a safe by the original purchaser - an absolute beauty for🇬🇧£8,200🤩
I have a black two tone Sub and that looks great so i can only imagine what a full gold one would look like. Having said that a yellow Daydate is on my list as a retirement present to myself. Just need to get the boss to ok that though.
Got delivery of this watch today and I love it. No intentions of flipping it, just like all my watches, I'll just wear it when I feel like it. But I also take some pride in having this piece while watching the Luna crypto coin crash and burn on the same day. I'm actually in favor of crypto per se but this piece will likely never drop below retail and while I'm holding on to it, I'm wearing a kick-ass watch. I've put some funds into crypto because why the hell not but I'm firmly of the opinion that tangible assets will likely trump purely speculative investments in the long term.
Sunday night, a glass of wine, an episode of The Watch Guys and the weekend is complete. More great storytelling by Damian. There’s quite a lot packed into that 10 minutes. Never thought about a gold Sub but you make a strong case for it. The tone of the gold is both striking and subtle. Something about gold watches makes me think 1970’s. It would go nicely with that 3.0 CSL!
Ooh. So gaudy. So fabulous. Great contrast. I'm green with envy.. like your fabuulous Daytona. That's a real gem. But that Nautilus is the cream on the top with a cherry. 🍨 More on the gold watches please.
Not always about the 💰 or price performance of an individual watch. But for collectors it’s a reassuring factor that the piece will at least hold its value long term, which reduces buyers remorse after spending 30k
oktfg This watch is already highly sought-after, so it's currently at £40-45k, but I assume Nick H is thinking it might be discontinued this year. If so, the value will shoot up, no doubt
Never had a crown open up on its own before. Get it checked out, make sure the seals are seated in the correct position. The last thing you need is for salt water to find it’s way inside the watch.
I would love to see an episode on your gold watches 👍 I liked your episode on How to get ungettable Rolexes, which is full of great advice. I’ve built a strong relationship with my AD, and been able to secure a ceramic Pepsi and Panda Daytona over the few years. Solid yellow gold for me next.
