Hi Daz, informative video mate. I smiled at the end as you described it as “a tab”. As a former Royal Marine I’m setting off on the same journey on Thursday 24th October but as you know I will be “Yomping” 😉🫡
Thanks for sharing your hike, really enjoyed your video over all the others I have watched, no fluff just a good down to earth version of the WHW. Some really good coverage of difficult parts and decent places to stop for food and camping. Qudos for sticking out the rain, the trail looked difficult but i'm guessing its not your first walk in miserable conditions.
Thanks Davie, much appreciated for the feedback, the weather was very testing for the first two days. I loved every day and would definitely do the trail again.
The WHW was the highlight of my LEJOG, i did it south to north in May 2018 and had wall to wall sunshine. I did it north to south last September and had the same sort of weather has you had. Thank you for the video.
Well done lad, 5 days is amazing, it took me 9, I also carried my gear, pack weighing just under 20 kilos (to heavy), I'm wanting to do it again, more training & definitely a lighter pack though 👍
Great video documentary of your journey, well done for 5 days as well 👏 been on my bucket list for a while, just getting the time and motivation to do it....don't fancy either the rain or the mozzies either 😂😂😂
Hey ya’ Darran, thank you for posting this video. I set out from Milngavie on 21 March - really nice to re-visit the trail via your video. My first long distance walk. It was a great experience! Also, I stayed at the Inveroran Hotel, you’re spot on about the hospitality, it was great! As was the food. Thanks again for posting.
Well done Darren. You earned that decent weather in the last couple of days. I did it in 5.5 days last year wild camping as well apart from a night at Beinn Glas, some long tough days but well worth it on what u say is a superb trail.
Hi Darran, nice to meet you today. This video is a great insight into what I will encounter when I start the WHW later this week. If its anything like the Great Glen Way that I did 2 years ago, it will be amazing.
@@darranmilne9944 Hi Darren. Currently camped near Inveroran, enjoying the trail apart from that last bit along Loch Lomond, definitely a challenge whilst wearing a backpack.
Hi there, loved the video. Great insight into the whw. I just completed the whw on Saturday and done this over 5 days also. The Loch Lomond leg (Balmaha to Drovers Inn) was by far the hardest day of hiking I’ve ever done. Thanks again for the video.
I just come back from doing balmaha to crainlarich whilst doing the summit of Ben Lommand along the way, the terrain in Scotland is consistently testing the your endurance, good video, but I find it hard to believe anyone could do the west Highland way in 5 days.
Thanks for your comments and I am glad you enjoyed the video. I did complete the West Highland Way in 5 days and I did lot of training before this I also work as Mountain Guide and spend lot of time outdoors and I am use to walking long distances with pack on my back. I would only be cheating myself If I did not complete in 5days. Thanks Darran
@@darranmilne9944 I apologise, I didn't mean literally, I know its possible, it's tough terrain out there, with the right training and preparation I believe it could be done, I am hoping to go again later in the year, the ben more region, in a hostel, its easier to enjoy if you can relax properly at the end of the day and shower.
Really enjoyed this, cheers. I tried this a couple of years ago as my first multi-day walk and had a tent pole snap on me where you camped for your first night 😂 and we bailed after Crianlarich. Good to see you didn't get destroyed by midges like we did too. I think I'll give this another try this year 👍
Thank you for posting this is lovely to watch and a fantastic achievement for you! Well done! Shame about the rain. It did look slippery where the rocks were but stunning views. I’m really glad this popped up on my feed! ❤
Nice one. Really enjoyed that journey, and I didn't even have to break a sweat. If you want an even greater challenge in the Highlands, next time you could also do the Great Glen Way up to Inverness, or instead the East Highland Way from FW to Aviemore, in addition to the hike from Milngavie.
Great journey, thanks for sharing it. My brother in law and I are doing it in June, fingers crossed we can get to the end! What was that blue Rab Jacket you had on? atb Andy
Awesome mate! I think I was a day or two behind you as I met Keith and a few others that you met along the way. They all spoke very highly of you 🙂 Brilliant watching this back and reflecting on my own journey along the WHW. I did it it 5 nights, 6 days and also wild camped like you did. Your advice around pack weight is bang on. If I did it again I could lose a fair bit and in turn make it a touch easier. Congratulations on the achievement 😁 Adge
Thanks for your amazing feedback, its amazing trail and I met some amazing people along the way, Keith was top bloke and was pleasure talking to him. Thanks Darran
You did pronounce Milngavie correctly. With Balmaha, it's Bal-Ma-Ha. Drymen is a bit more difficult to explain in text form. Take the DRI from the start of drill, and add men to the end. It looks like you had a great time.
Hi Paul I used 2 different jackets Mountain Equipment Lhotse for wet weather and My RAB Borealis jacket which is nice and lightweight and I would highly recommend.
Great video mate! Thanks for sharing. Been watching more and more of these vlog of the WHW to grasp at some more details of route etc. As I hope to run it in the very near future and of course vlog it. Fantastic achievement mate , well done. Dropped a Sub too to follow more of your journey. You'd also have loved Conic Hill mate although there wouldn't have been great views. I've run drymen to conic hill and back, as well as vlogging it and getting the drone up at the top. If you wanted to check it out. Thanks again.
Great video and good tips. I am trying a Durston x mid 2 on the trail, so will be interested to see what my condensation is like. What time of the year was this?
Fantastic vlog Darran showing the WHW early in the year! Atb, Keiren.
Great video. very informative and what a shame your first couple of days were so wet!
