I remember when the old signalbox was operational before the RETB signalling took over an me and my butty Mike (we were both Train Drivers, now long retired) were invited up into the old signal box by Jimmy, the signalman, who was a real character to exchange railway banter. The 360 degree views from inside the box were absolutely spectacular... what a fabulous place to work... I also remember encoutering "Dave the Juggernaught" by the railway bridge shown in your video, who was carrying the biggest rucksack I'd ever seen before or since... it was at least 100 litres... he was completely buggered and he put his rucksack down when he spoke to us.... He had a ghetto blaster and loads of cans of food/drink in his rucksack, and everthing but the kitchen sink, it being his first, and probably last expedition to the Highlands... I almost felt sorry for him. We stayed in the SYHA, where we encoutered a large stag, complete with huge antlers loitering outside.... Tom, the Manager explained that he was very old and had lost most of his teeth, so was thus reliant on people feeding him, hence him becoming tame(ish)... We were told that he later had to be shot, as he would obviously be unable to feed himself in the winter. Tom the manager, who was in his 60's, was well known for inviting all comers to race him round the forestry track circling Loch Ossian... Memories, memories... now my knees are knackered, so no more galavanting around the highlands carrying 65lb rucksacs (as weighed on the scales at Abergavenny Station) for me...
I'm a signalman. Always daydreamed of box's like that. But even the ones I did years back. It may have been romantic looking. Bit trying to keep warm during the winter wasn't so 🤣

What an absolutely fabulous vlog. I can't believe the amount of work you have to do, in producing this, AND all the climbing and cycling. Such a beautiful part of our great country. I so look forward to your vlogs. Inspirational. Thanks so much. Beautiful. The venison burger just looked fab too!!! 😊
Really enjoyed this longer video, I settled down to a great nights viewing, better than anything on the tv! Really appreciate all the work that goes into it, it enables me to feel like I’m travelling the route too, thank you so much!

Hi Murray, just to say….what an amazing vlog you do. The editing work you must put into these is phenomenal. Such beauty in every shot. This should be on TV. Thanks for your videos. Brilliant 😎
What a joy to watch. Not only one of your beautiful long episodes but something slightly different to boot. It was superb watching you tackle that route. I'm glad there wasn't too much hike-a-bike for you. The road in Glen Lyon is ine of my favourites in the area for cycling - quiet and beautiful. So glad you enjoyed flowing down it. And the film from Glen Almond has made me think I need to go and explore it. Thanks again for creating and sharing this, it seems like a huge amount of work to entertain us.
Thanks Alasdair. The descent down Glen Lyon was delightful - especially after a full meal from the wonderful cafe at Bridge of Balgie! :) I can thoroughly recommend Glen Almond too - a wonderful and quite glen to explore for sure :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Brilliant video Murray have to admire your stamina as not the easiest way to travel especially the first day. Never thought you'd make it on some of the sections. Rannoch Moor Station I've been to many times and had a lovely meal at the cafe. Especially loved seeing you go through Glen Lyon as it's a wonderful area. Loch Tay and Forest are wonderful area to see but really this whole part of Scotland is my favourite. Many happy memories of wonderful times. ATB Murray.
Thanks Julie, the cycle down Glen Lyon with the sun shining and the free wheeling was very nice (especially after the tracks I had gone over in the prior 24hrs!!lol) Added to that I had a full tummy after a lovely bite to eat at Bridge of Balgie made it even more fun cycling down :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray

Only just seen this, great trip and video. I did the route up from Spean Bridge to Rannoch 20 odd years ago (left car at Rannoch Station and took morning train to Spean Bridge). Don't remember the section from the bothy to Loch Treig being that bad, but we were travelling light with very light xc bikes, and it was a dry day, and may have been in a dry spell. I do remember the rocky section just north of Creaganuich Lodge, and was convinced a Jacobite or red coat would be just around the corner. No venison burgers at Courour then, and the new tracks from Treig to Ossian hadn't been built by Mr Tetra-pack, so much more bog crossing than nowadays. The track from Peter's Rock to the B846 was also very rough peat rack then, I do remember flying over the bars at one point when the front wheel disappeared into the bog. My brother had bailed out at Corrour and took afternoon train to Rannoch, and I made it back to Rannoch Station not much later, but was by then was physically exhausted and faily beat up from going way too fast on the peat track. (didn't want to keep him waiting for some reason). A great day though. Rannoch and Glen Lyon are always special. Interesting to see Glen Almond again, did that in the late 80s and again in the early 2000s with some Belgian clients.
What an amazing trip, love the photography. If doing that route again the route from Carie on Loch Rannoch to Invervar in Glen Lyon is a very pretty route through the forest by a stream and out onto the moor, a bit easier.
Hey Murray, watch your TH-cam posts religiously. Inspiring stuff, we are predominantly cyclists who like to walk occasionally, but you certainly highlight Scotland’s beauty!! We cycled loch Laggan to Corrour station last year directly as a result of your cycling trip (and revisited Ardverikie estate recently) for another cycling adventure. This video has taken hours to watch as I’ve paused so often to check your route on Komoot, and have planned a number of routes for us to attempt over the spring months. Really appreciate the additional effort you put in to the filming side of things in order to bring the wilds of Scotland to our screen and perhaps more importantly, kick our butts into action to do it for ourselves!! Great stuff. Keep up the good work, im ever hopeful we’ll bump into you someday, swap an outdoors story and discuss good drams 🥃. Thanks again 👍🏻
ah brilliant - I remember doing that bike video going into Corrour from Laggan and being a bit disappointed when I got to the Station house a week too early!!lol. Brilliant Murray, really enjoyed. Walked up the section from loch Ossian to do the Corbett’s by the bothy and really enjoyed but wasn’t so boggy, looked a bit of a nightmare coming down on the bike. Drove Glen Lyon last year to its end point such a beautiful Glen although think I would prefer a bike to navigate some of the narrow windy sections at the east end. Fully agree about Glen Almound, another wonderful Glen, choose that as a route up onto Auchnafree hill, I guess the one where you had brake issues. Cheers, Paul

Superb Murray, I was working up at, what must be, The Newest Corrour Hunting lodge earlier this year. 5 miles or so from Corrour Station IIRC , Great place
I camped near the old Corrour ruins on 24th February. It was deep in snow, got down to -12 and my water and Lucozade froze in the tent, but my whisky was okay, Bunnahabhainn. I climbed Carn Dearg the next day, was between knee and waist deep in snow. Fair enjoyed it though. Edit, the Corrour ruins were a former sanatorium. The building was predominately pinched for the Corrour shooting lodge. This area is my ancestral home. Thanks for the video Murray, ATB, Angus

Brilliant. Looked amazing Murray. Been looking to do something like this. I need to just do it instead of thinking.
Amazing as always and inspirational!
