    Absolutely fascinating video. I did "The way" in 1974 and 1975, nothing has changed much, except many youth hostels have sadly closed down. I have a personal letter from Alfred Wainwright typed in '74 and hand signed saying well done. :)

    Watched your Pennine way videos, and enjoyed them that much me and my brother decided to walk it.We did it this winter and got to Kirk Yetholm on Feb 6th..One of the greatest experiences of ny life thus far..It was very difficult, especially high force gales on the 10 miles of Hadians Wall toRapishaw Gap, 3 foot of snow on Cross Fell, and Torrential storm over the cheviots...The refuge hut was a welcome sight indeed..Stayed in that place for 16 hours till the storm abated.Got to the Border Hotel for opening time...This walk is a mecca for all walkers..Thanks for posting. :)

      Thanks for the comments and glad you enjoyed the videos. So you went for it? That is awesome! It sounds like you had some crazy weather, 3 foot of snow on Cross Fell, I bet that looked cool. At least the weather holding you back gave you some great memories on your journey. Congrats to you and your bro, that is even more of an achievement. You might have caught the bug like we did and do more. We did the Coast to Coast last year and I am itching to do more.

      I think If I walked another 100 long distance walks, nothing will compare to arriving at the Border Hotel to complete this epic walk for he first time..We're on about going from North to South next year..Thanks again Chris. :)

    Fantastic video! It was great to see it all again from the air and it brought back all of the feelings and memories from my 15 day traverse in 2015. My last day was a 'memorable' 10 hour solo slog across The Cheviots in horrible conditions. It was nice to see what I missed. Thank you.

    Lovely video which brought back plenty of memories, I backpacked it in 13 days in 1994, but have walked / backpacked over most of it again since then at various times. "The end of the Pennines is in sight" at the end - err, actually, these are the Cheviots. As Tony Hopkins points out in his guide, a true 'Pennine Way' would continue northwards to Brampton area after Cross Fell, year-before-last I backpacked this section too after the dry summer, going southwards. Unfortunately one of my favourite sections has now been completely trashed - the 'green road' on Cam Fell has now been converted to asphalt to allow access to felling the distinctive Cam woodlands you can see from the trail, and, nearby, asphalt has been laid to allow an easy walk for people doing the Three Peaks, completely ruining the character of the hills, though its enhanced accessibility no doubt brings in plenty of cash for the promoters and the area in general, as well as the burden on the planet of all the car journeys made to do the event.

    any advice when the best time of year to do the walk is when camping

    • @Chris-B.
      @Chris-B.  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your question AL. I would suggest completing the walk between the months of April and September. Especially if you are camping, you will get the driest days (although not always guaranteed), and longest days between these dates. The cold winter months do not necessarily put me off, it is mainly the shorter days in winter that are a concern. There are some long moorland stretches, and you need as much daylight per day as you can.
