i love this expansion, all is perfect, at first i was surprised by the little size of the map , but you have a lot to discover off road , and plenty of mountains , so overall it is the same scale as storm Island maybe even bigger from forza horizon 2. i can't wait for the 2nd expansion and the next forza H4.. on scorpio xD

Getting bikes into the game depends on the physics engine. At the moment, the physics engine won't be able to handle bikes. Three-wheelers are the minimum amount of wheels that the physics engine.

The only problem I had with the main map was the lack of mountain and valley locations, so this is a very welcome update, and the snowy location made it a perfect Christmas game for me. The new map is a bit samll, but it's packed with content and a lot of distance is hidden by the verticality of the location. It's bigger than it seems. A bit of heavily wooded, rally-style locations would've been cool though.
I have to say I only bought this because I've not played a non-Criterion racing game for maybe more than a decade and I really fancied one. I don't like serious racers, I like arcade ones so it took me a while to adjust to Horizon 3. But...in a year of fantastic games, one of the best years in a long time, Horizon 3 is the game I have spent by far the most time on. It is one of the most feature-rich games I have EVER played, with the joy of car-collecting(and the cars feel genuinely valuable because with in-game credits being hard to come by you really have to earn them), modding and painting, as well as the ridiculously comprehensive design suite(which I have spent a lot of time in), and then the endlessly subtle racing engine, the enormous map, the online component...it is a ludicrously deep game, deeper than even your Fallouts and Skyrims in my opinion, although obv. very different. The DLC felt like a Xmas present, even though it cost money. That's how giving this game is. If you've never tried a serious racer(and this is a serious racer, even if it does have races against blimps and fighter jets) then I can promise you you will enjoy this...so long as you're prepared to put a couple of days into adjusting to the fact that you can't drive sideways through every corner at top speed, and you will have to use this funny button marked 'brakes' quite regularly. Basically, if you can get over the pretty grim, frustrating adjustment period, when you smash into every corner and have to use the(very, very useful) 'rewind' function every five seconds, then you will come out the other side into a world of joyous, absorbing racing, and beautiful, beautiful cars(all of them modeled to a mental degree, all of them satisfying to gain due to the difficulty in doing so. No cheap, easy unlocks here.). I could have gone on about so many other features, like the addictive Wheelspin feature, where you get a chance of winning money/cars/special edition perk-cars when you go up a level, or the brilliant photography suite, or the joys of finally getting to drift around corners in Blizzard Mountain due to the snow flurries, or the beautiful little village that sits in the middle of a blizzard zone, or the long, sweeping east coastline of Australia that is such a joy to drive down... Seriously though, just get it. And if you, like me, are an arcade racer and Burnout fan at heart, remember to persevere until you get a feel for braking at corners, driving lines, taming the back-end when it starts getting squirrelly...give it a chance and it will pay you back in spades.
I manage to get 4k 60 with minor frame drops in heavy foliage with my GTX 1080 using high settings with ultra textures/reflections+2xmsaa. So this should be good for me, thanks for the review! Buying Blizzard now, It'll be interesting comparing it to Dirt Rally's ruthless handling on snow.
it's also worth noting that I don't know why, if it's with VIP and Car Pass or what, but my expansion pass said on sale until 12/31 for $24 so you get each expansion for $12 instead of $20...
I'm a huge fan of the Forza series since the first game released on the original Xbox. In fact, I have every entry in the series with the exception of Forza Horizon 3 and this DLC which I do plan on buying sometime soon. The franchise has managed to maintain a pretty good level of polish with every title that has come out. In fact, I'd even say that Forza is a better franchise than Gran Turismo. Forza Horizon 3 Blizzard Mountain's snowy setting actually reminds a little bit of Motorstorm Arctic Edge on the PSP which is a really fun game. Thanks Karak!

Despite being smaller, i actually enjoy this map more than the one in the full game. Chalk it up to me fancying snow levels, but flying down the peak scratches an itch I havent felt since SSX 3, and on top of that it's goregous. Love this DLC
Much less stuttering, but overall similar frame rate. Base game my cpu and gpu usage never exceeded 50% no matter the settings. Near 100% gpu usage in blizzard mountain. I can even turn settings up to a mix of ultra & high (as opposed to medium) and have a solid 30 fps lock. Running with an fx 6300 & r9 280x. Good review btw, it is a blast to play.
@ACG there are new songs added about 3 for each radio station as i have played the base game for an absolute age and noticed these additions. Amazing game, everyone should try it.
I really love this Expansion. The graphics at times is very breathtaking and so wonderful. However, I do wish they added some extra body kits and other car customization like giant spoilers since they added the hill climbing as a new race event.

One of the most enjoyable things for me in the Gran Turismo games was watching the replays with all the options it offered. It's a shame that it doesn't work as well in this game.
Great review! I own the game on PC and XB1, and I've found if you have enough RAM (I have 32GB; GTX 980ti), setting the system page file to zero (0) removes almost all of the stuttering in the game. This is because the game is almost a 1:1 port from the XB1, so it manages memory differently than true PC games do. So, the more unfettered memory it has, the smoother it runs. Try it out, if you haven't already?
Interesting. I've not seen that method before although I'm not really having much stutter in the main game anyway, except for the middle of the city. My main issue is an unstable 60fps but even that's manageable if I go about things the right way.
That's weird. For that to even have a benefit as you describe it would mean that damn near the entire game gets loaded into RAM. That's kind of nuts if that's the case. I'll have to check that out because 32gb of RAM to run a game smoothly is insane.
lastone032085 The reason is FH3 is almost a 1:1 port of the XB1 game. XB1 has shared memory (8GB; video + system), so even the PC version is looking for one giant RAM pool instead of the separate system RAM and DDR5 video card RAM found on PC video cards. If you put FH3 to "low" settings, it uses about 4-5GB of Video RAM alone. This is why players with cards with 4 GB of VRAM... Like 970s... Are constantly crashing to desktop even at "low" settings. It's a very bad port...
That's the kicker, though. Performance of FH3 on PC is just too random. For some, it works flawlessly even with lesser hardware. For others with the latest and greatest specs, it's complete mess (stutters, CTD, etc). It's just a bad port because it's more or less the XB1 version converted to x86 architecture to run in a Windows environment and nothing more.
I found that with the PC, if you turn off the FXAA while you have MSAA at 2X it seems to run better, at least on my rig. My specs are i7 4790k@ 4.5Ghz, 16GB DDR3 2400, GTX 1080, ASUS ROG Maximus VII hero Z97, Corsair RM850 PSU, 960GB PNY SSD. I know not everyone has beastly specs, but I don't think its hardware but coding that's the problem. If turning off FXAA and leaving MSAA at 2X works for others, great.
If your on PC and you own a 144hz monitor set the the frame rate to 48fps. the only time I really get slow downs is in the city and there not to bad. I have i5 6600k with a GTX 970 g1 and it was able to hold this frame rate very well and this is with mostly everything on ultra or high and 4xmsaa. 60 is to high and 30 is to low 48 is just right lol.
I always love your videos and appreciate the time you put in to them. I just have one criticism and it is for the majority of review type videos for fh3 not particularly this one. It's just the comment that this is a tough or demanding game for many pc's. I'm one of the many people with stuttering issues and have an i7 6700k and gtx 1070. Even with the weaker gpu and targeting a vsynced 60fps the gpu doesn't come close to being fully utilized and the cpu only sustains a 30% load throughout the entire time of playing. The game just refuses to use the resources available and concentrates most of its tasks to a single thread of a cpu. Racing games have always seemed to be mostly cpu dependent so the performance is of no surprise with it using under 1/3 of an i7's potential. The game really isn't all that demanding. Things like a rx 480 and a 1060 can make this game look stunning if it took advantage of what the cpu has to offer. Unfortunately the entire process is held up by its single threaded decryption drm nonsense that isn't quick enough to feed everything. Sorry for the rant.

Byron Mendez intel 6700k, 64GB ram, Nvidia 980, 500GB SSD. The crashing happened just after the first splash screen. I talked to support, they said to reinstall, I did, same thing, it kept crashing so I refunded the game. I have all my games running well, from battlefield 1, watch dogs 2, far cry primal, doom, fallout 4, they all work flawlessly, only thing that comes to mind is the fact that is a windows game

I am not a racing game fan but I LOVE Forza Horizon 3. It might not be better than Uncharted 4 but since I only have a XBOX ONE, this game is my game of the year. I might get this DLC.
You can't really compare it to Uncharted 4 as they are completely different games. Both are good at what they do, or so people say about Uncharted as I've never played it. But going off their game styles I would say FH3 is better because it's a game I can play and play trying to get all my faves cars. With Uncharted I'd play it once annd that'd be it. If you bought FH3 Ultimate then it's definitely worth getting the discounted pass before the end of the year. Blizzard Mountain is worth it and that effectively means you get the next expansion for $5, whatever that expansion may be. If you have to pay full price for the pass, or get them individually then it's up to you. Blizzard Mountain is great fun with some stunning scenery, but do expect a LOT of blizzards. ;-)
Splitting the car pass and the expansion pass was a bad move. Ultimate edition owners deserve the expansions for the price they pay. The expansions themselves are great, however. Nice review.
The Crew's Lamborghini Huracan literally sounds retarded. Play Driveclub instead! It's even more realistic than Forza by far in every single little aspect. Give it a go not sure if theres a demo or not but I really think you would enjoy it.
They need to add a silly snow plow mode. Race to see how much road you shovel and salted. Race to pile the biggest pile of snow. Race to bury as many other cars driving on a giving track/path in snow without actually hitting the cars.

I fucking love this game, and I don't even have a real interest in cars or racing. It's just a very well crafted videogame. Especially with the way they handled the introduction. It just oozed fun.
I know this is really picking at straws with the music but there is one new song, Safe and Sound by Justice which plays at the start. I know it's not much but it is a nice addition to the games soundtrack.
This game really is a joy to play and any expansion is just a great excuse to play more. I get the feeling Karak falls into the "just one more race" category with the rest of us.

Unfortunately it doesn't but ultimate edition owners get a discount on the expansion pass which includes Blizzard Mountain and another location yet to be announced.
For some unknown reason system specs are largely irrelevant to FH3's issues. I've seen folks with way better specs than me have a nightmare with it. Then I've seen folks with lower specs get smooth 60fps. Go figure. There doesn't seem to be any combo that works across the board for everyone.

just use Anna to tell you where to go next and virtually ignore your map. thats why they have her in there.

I really love this Expansion. The graphics at times is very breathtaking and so wonderful. However, I do wish they added some extra body kits and other car customization like giant spoilers since they added the hill climbing as a new race event.

ACG yeah it's amazing, I was not really a racing fan before fh3, but my friend persuaded me and I have never looked back, it is really hours and hours of pure enjoyment.

A very iconic Aussie car. I'd be willing to put money on it that someone turned it into a hearse too, probably the long wheel base version which was dubbed the "Statesman".

you know, i ve been immensely surprised at how praised the base game is despise being so. goddamn. small. as an open world racing kinda thing. I mean I would have loved a sense of scale akin to Test Drive Unlimited ... that said the expansion looks more pleasant, races seems to be pretty neat. Thanks for the review !

One of the most enjoyable things for me in the Gran Turismo games was watching the replays with all the options it offered. It's a shame that it doesn't work as well in this game.

I own the game on PC and XB1, and I've found if you have enough RAM (I have 32GB; GTX 980ti), setting the system page file to zero (0) removes almost all of the stuttering in the game. This is because the game is almost a 1:1 port from the XB1, so it manages memory differently than true PC games do. So, the more unfettered memory it has, the smoother it runs. Try it out, if you haven't already?
Interesting. I've not seen that method before although I'm not really having much stutter in the main game anyway, except for the middle of the city. My main issue is an unstable 60fps but even that's manageable if I go about things the right way.
That's weird. For that to even have a benefit as you describe it would mean that damn near the entire game gets loaded into RAM. That's kind of nuts if that's the case. I'll have to check that out because 32gb of RAM to run a game smoothly is insane.
lastone032085 The reason is FH3 is almost a 1:1 port of the XB1 game. XB1 has shared memory (8GB; video + system), so even the PC version is looking for one giant RAM pool instead of the separate system RAM and DDR5 video card RAM found on PC video cards.
If you put FH3 to "low" settings, it uses about 4-5GB of Video RAM alone. This is why players with cards with 4 GB of VRAM... Like 970s... Are constantly crashing to desktop even at "low" settings. It's a very bad port...

That's the kicker, though.
Performance of FH3 on PC is just too random. For some, it works flawlessly even with lesser hardware. For others with the latest and greatest specs, it's complete mess (stutters, CTD, etc).
It's just a bad port because it's more or less the XB1 version converted to x86 architecture to run in a Windows environment and nothing more.
I got the season pass before it came out, and omg i really love the dlc, been having so much fun with it ^^

I found that with the PC, if you turn off the FXAA while you have MSAA at 2X it seems to run better, at least on my rig. My specs are i7 4790k@ 4.5Ghz, 16GB DDR3 2400, GTX 1080, ASUS ROG Maximus VII hero Z97, Corsair RM850 PSU, 960GB PNY SSD. I know not everyone has beastly specs, but I don't think its hardware but coding that's the problem. If turning off FXAA and leaving MSAA at 2X works for others, great.

If your on PC and you own a 144hz monitor set the the frame rate to 48fps. the only time I really get slow downs is in the city and there not to bad. I have i5 6600k with a GTX 970 g1 and it was able to hold this frame rate very well and this is with mostly everything on ultra or high and 4xmsaa. 60 is to high and 30 is to low 48 is just right lol.

I always love your videos and appreciate the time you put in to them. I just have one criticism and it is for the majority of review type videos for fh3 not particularly this one. It's just the comment that this is a tough or demanding game for many pc's. I'm one of the many people with stuttering issues and have an i7 6700k and gtx 1070. Even with the weaker gpu and targeting a vsynced 60fps the gpu doesn't come close to being fully utilized and the cpu only sustains a 30% load throughout the entire time of playing. The game just refuses to use the resources available and concentrates most of its tasks to a single thread of a cpu. Racing games have always seemed to be mostly cpu dependent so the performance is of no surprise with it using under 1/3 of an i7's potential. The game really isn't all that demanding. Things like a rx 480 and a 1060 can make this game look stunning if it took advantage of what the cpu has to offer. Unfortunately the entire process is held up by its single threaded decryption drm nonsense that isn't quick enough to feed everything. Sorry for the rant.

Byron Mendez intel 6700k, 64GB ram, Nvidia 980, 500GB SSD. The crashing happened just after the first splash screen. I talked to support, they said to reinstall, I did, same thing, it kept crashing so I refunded the game. I have all my games running well, from battlefield 1, watch dogs 2, far cry primal, doom, fallout 4, they all work flawlessly, only thing that comes to mind is the fact that is a windows game

I am not a racing game fan but I LOVE Forza Horizon 3.
It might not be better than Uncharted 4 but since I only have a XBOX ONE, this game is my game of the year. I might get this DLC.
You can't really compare it to Uncharted 4 as they are completely different games. Both are good at what they do, or so people say about Uncharted as I've never played it. But going off their game styles I would say FH3 is better because it's a game I can play and play trying to get all my faves cars. With Uncharted I'd play it once annd that'd be it.
If you bought FH3 Ultimate then it's definitely worth getting the discounted pass before the end of the year. Blizzard Mountain is worth it and that effectively means you get the next expansion for $5, whatever that expansion may be.
If you have to pay full price for the pass, or get them individually then it's up to you. Blizzard Mountain is great fun with some stunning scenery, but do expect a LOT of blizzards. ;-)

Splitting the car pass and the expansion pass was a bad move. Ultimate edition owners deserve the expansions for the price they pay. The expansions themselves are great, however. Nice review.

The Crew's Lamborghini Huracan literally sounds retarded. Play Driveclub instead! It's even more realistic than Forza by far in every single little aspect. Give it a go not sure if theres a demo or not but I really think you would enjoy it.

Race to see how much road you shovel and salted. Race to pile the biggest pile of snow. Race to bury as many other cars driving on a giving track/path in snow without actually hitting the cars.

I fucking love this game, and I don't even have a real interest in cars or racing. It's just a very well crafted videogame. Especially with the way they handled the introduction. It just oozed fun.

Unfortunately it doesn't but ultimate edition owners get a discount on the expansion pass which includes Blizzard Mountain and another location yet to be announced.

All Ultimate gives you is base game plus season pass which is car pass and vip status(double credits on wheelspins).

For some unknown reason system specs are largely irrelevant to FH3's issues. I've seen folks with way better specs than me have a nightmare with it. Then I've seen folks with lower specs get smooth 60fps. Go figure. There doesn't seem to be any combo that works across the board for everyone.
