I live in Florida where Muscovy ducks are considered an invasive species a female decides to lay eggs in a large pot on my condo balcony she was always accompanied by a mature male and three juveniles. I call them mama, papa and baby ducks. I have been feeding them and papa duck runs up to me, let’s me pet him and eats from my hand. Today a neighbor with a pitbull he walks on a 20ft leash killed papa duck right in front of me, the babies who were about a foot away and the mama who was sitting on her nest on my balcony. I’m absolutely heartbroken and the worst part is that no one seems to care bc it’s “just a duck” I told management and the man should be reprimanded but I’m so so sad. Papa duck was my friend. I just wanted to tell someone I thought might understand. He was a really good duck. ❤

Sorry about papa duck. When I lost my hen (lady cockerel) it was really sad. I understand your pain, sorry for your loss

You are a hero for those moscovy ducks friend. I have had mine since he was a newborn. He’s two now. He is the best indoor emotional therapy duck/ best friend / duck son I have ever been blessed with. You should adopt one.

Why are they considered an invasive species? They don't do anything bad to the environment.

I have had these ducks for decades, they live wild in my area. Thankfully I have never been scratched by their claws. Since they walk around on rocks and pavement around here their claws are rounded off. Many people hate them but I love my feathered friends.

thanks for this, my wife and i are getting 5 muscovies today, like everything else on our farm; they will be black, our cat, and both dogs are black. the next chickens we buy will be black jersey giants. we are trying to become a self sustaining farm, as well as market farmers. we're excited to be raising muscovies.

I always thought they looked more duck/chicken hybrids. Obviously the two birds can't breed but if they could it's what I picture the hybrids looking like.

I am picking up a breeding pair of blue Swedish and a lone Muscovy duck who lost her mate. I am going to try to figure out who is laying what eggs so I don’t try to hatch the muscovy’s ducklings. I subbed :)

When the female muscovy duck is hurt, shock, or surprise they dont only make a chirp sound but rather a Weuurrr!! Weur!!! Sometimes they almost sound like they are quacking but definitely a weur! I love how they make that sound especially the males when they feel threatend or territorial warning makes a hhuuuuuuuuhhhhh h h h h h h h h h h h sound like a breathing dragon😅😆😂. Let mo know guys if you've heard this? Heheheheh
