Slow Cooker Scalloped Potatoes and Ham

This is a simple layered dish that goes in to your slow cooker and spends either 4 hours in high or 6-8 hours on low. Test with a fork to determine if the potatoes are cooked. If they are fork tender the dish is ready.
I layer in onions and potatoes. It seems that red potatoes or Yukon Gold hold up best to slow cooking so that’s what I use. I sprinkle cheese in between the layers using about 2 cups of cheese for the whole dish but you could add more if you like it cheesier. I used about 1 ½ cups chopped ham between the layers. You can get creative here.
    For the sauce I added:
1-15 ounce can of creamed corn but you could leave that out or add a different vegetable if you like
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
    1 ½ cups of milk
    1 tsp garlic powder
    ½ tsp salt
    ¼ tsp black pepper.
Mix those ingredients together and pour over top of the layers of potatoes, onions and ham. Put the liner back in the base of the slow cooker and cook 4 -5 hours on high or 6-8 hours on low. I would let it sit for a half hour before serving just to firm up a bit.

Colleen your Scalloped potato dish sounds delicious , I also think you could use about 1 & 1/2-2 ponds of cooked sausage meat to this dish in place of the Ham , And adjusting for added salt if needed , I think it would be delicious also ! I make a dish much like this one using cooked Hamburger meat and an envelope of Lipton onion soup /dip dry mix , and cream of mushroom soup in place of the other cream soups , I sometimes also add either canned and drained or fresh sliced mushrooms ( I love mushroom but not needed if you don’t like ) ! Thanks Colleen for all the great recipes and canning recipes you bring to us , I appreciate all you do to bring economical but delicious foods and also teach us how to preserve food through canning in season veggies and also meats for shelf stable storage for later use!! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻

“CrockPot” is a brand name of a slow cooker type appliance…hence the interchangeable references….kind of like Jello for any flavored gelatin or more to the point, an Instant Pot with any Electric Pressure Cooker…. I myself am guilty of calling any slow cooker a CrockPot 😏😉 This recipe is perfect timing…I just cut open a smoked Ham Shank which was on sale after the holidays and have been racking my brain for something new and different for which to use it. Thanks!

Hi Colleen. This looks so good. I might make this tomorrow for supper. Because we live so far from town I keep a well stocked cold room and always have canned ham for those quickly meals. Thanks so much. Definitely a keeper for them nights when you just don’t feel like cooking, ❄️🇨🇦

I think a lot of people are looking for recipes that take little but make a lot, like wow, a few potatoes and onions, some soup cheese which wasn't a ton and the ham steak would probably feed 1 or 2 can now feed 5 or 6 you had that slow cooker pretty full. These days there is so many multi generational homes, I myself share with my grown kids we save for a more disposable income allowing us to have a bit more fun, I'm sure if they marry or something that would change buts it a great way to save in long run. Back then, they knew how to stretch a dollar for sure. I will try this dish. Lol, no cream corn, tho I used to work in a canning factory and cream corn. I never ate again after I won't spoil it for u :) I wanted to ask, do you do any canning of just plain beans, black beans white, etc, in the nesco? Thanks for another nice video

Looks like I'll be using up some of my Christmas ham today. I have 3 large white potatoes and 2 huge red spuds i think the mix will work. Everything else on hand. So glad you added creme corn we love it like that. Oh, if cheese is used we call it au gratin potatoes if no cheese called scallop potatoes. Every area is different😊
Going throw a loaf in the bread machine if coarse your recipe! Enjoy your day.

Seeds starting this week. Today was around 76F which is not usual for this time of year. Earlier in the week it was in the 50s and 30s overnight. That's normal. It's been a weird winter. At Christmas we had pipes burst (outside, thankfully) because it got so cold. We technically are able to plant in March but early April is when things really get going.

Years ago they were called “Crock Pots” because there was a crock inside an electric cooker. I was first married in 1979 and my mother got me a crock pot, which I still have and still works very well. It has a low, med., high and auto shift. The auto shift starts out in high then will cut to low. I haven’t noticed an auto shift in anything I’ve seen since.
Should leave fat in for flavor also the juice in package, take fat out later.

Scalloped potatoes with ham is one of my favorite comfort foods, though I have yet to try making it in a slow cooker/Crockpot. Speaking of which, I tend to say Crockpot more than slow cooker, it's like saying you need a Kleenex instead of a tissue...just a name brand reference. I'm in central NY state and I start my seeds around the same time as you. I'm on the edge of zone 5b/4a. We get snow anywhere between Oct-May and tend to have one last freeze just after Memorial day or the end of May. What do you grow and will you do garden videos? Thank you for sharing your recipe! 😊

Usually called ham steak here. First time I ever saw corn put in. I never use canned soup easier to put in milk ,cream, and butter, as I am lazy, lol. I also add garlic. Just my preference.

I think the Crock Pot title is sort of like the Kleenex thing. All Crock Pots are slow cookers, but not all slow cookers are Crock Pots. It's a brand thing.
