    People who are angry about the way I used the thermal compound, I apologize for that. I tried with the single drop method but the CPU was throttling at 90c so I used a bit more and the temperature went down to normal. Also the processor lies facing upside down and right below it is the plastic back cover. So, I guess even if it spills(which it didn't... yet) it won't be the end of the world for me or the people who followed my video. So just chill till the next episode ;)
    After changing the the thermal compound, max CPU and GPU temps were 75~76c under full load. 30+ fps in most of the games in low ~ med settings. Gameplay video links are in the description.

    Thanks a lot Buddy.
    My 5 year old A555L which is almost exactly a X555, would heat upto 101 degrees during gaming.
    Reapplied thermal paste and now it doesn't go beyond 66 degrees.

    Did it yeah!, thank you! Was the first time i oppened, cleaned and replace thermal paste, I am monitorizing temperatures of CPU and GPU, so far so good. Just, I would recomend this video for more expert users who want info about this specific laptop model, for a complete begginer like me, I had to check other videos to get hints for things like ESD, or to not blow air with my mouth on the circuit boards. I just saved around 50 USD, thank you!

      So I disassembled my PC and was sure I hadn't broken the flex cable, yet I couldn't get the touchpad to work after reassembly, not even to get it listed in windows devices. I uninstalled ASUS Smart gesture and upon reboot touchpad was readily working again. I had downloaded ASUS touchpad driver ( ASUS Smart gesture ) to get it installed again but wasn't necessary. I'm using windows 10. PD: ASUS awful download site states ATK version whatever is needed before installing ASUS touchpad driver. I had it installed, yet it's real name in control panel Add or remove programs had no "ATK" characters in it.

      And those flex cable connectors have a tab that swings up before releasing the cable in question. The guy on the video is pulling the cable out incorrectly, so did I. Yet I believe it's almost impossible breaking this particular flex cable.

  • @samsudtabrin
    @samsudtabrin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you are still using this laptop, I can give some free advice. The cable you were mentioning is not a power cable,it's Display connector. To remove it, just remove the sticker and apply a small force horizontally. But it's extremely risky and you can lose your display sensitivity.(The color might look jumbled).
    I have an Asus X555LN and my display was showing just arrays of RGB instead of showing what's on the pc. Moreover,my display hinge was almost broken, so I decided to detach the display totally.
    It really looks nice now. I use an external dell s2218h monitor and color is superb. Only problem is I have to use it as a desktop. But the cooling has improved now(I don't know why).

    Hey mister, could you tell me if this asus x555l hdd board is compatible with asus x555u? It looks exactly the same, and some people relate them as equals, but some people on the other hand leave them in different sessions when you're buying them. Asus x555u hdd board is almost impossible to find, asus x555l is everywhere. I wanted to buy x555l and use it on my x555u.

      Sport Highlights And much more The chip on which I'm putting the thermal paste on at 12:24 is the CPU and integrated Intel GPU. If you look closely the metallic part is divided into two parts. The chip I'm pasting at 12:41 is the NVIDIA GPU. I know it for sure because NVIDIA is written on it.

    1- el cable que no sabes sacar es el de la pantalla se saca para el lado que viene el cable.
    2- le pones demaciada pasta termica y la aplicas mal. solo se debe colocar en la parte cromada, no en toda la superficie del pcb osea no en todo el procesador, solo en la parte que hace contacto con el disipador de cobre.

      achmet chasankil The black thin cover type thing needs to line up with the 2 small holders on both sides as shown at 14:13 and it's ok if you put a bit more thermal compound and spread it out like I did with my CPU because my it was throttling at 90c (while gaming) when I used a small amount. Maybe because it's a slim laptop. If you read some other comments people are saying that this will ruin my motherboard what they didn't realize is the fact that the CPU is upside down in this model and directly below is the plastic back cover. So even if it drips (it will not, I didn't put that much), it'll not be the end of the world. Hope it helps :)

    I have an X555U and it's got an audio issue. Everytime I apply any pressure on the sound card or pick the laptop up in a certain way the audio either gets very distorted or cuts off completely. Putting it to sleep and waking makes the audio come back. I opened it up, cleaned it and screwed the sound card tighter into the board. The problem persists but its a little better. Should I try replacing the sound card?

    Just wanna to ask that thermal paste is really a great help to transfer heat to heatsink? I cleaned my X555LJ/ A555lJ in my country, just I not dare to change thermal paste only.

    • @DeepRoy1992
      @DeepRoy1992  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacky Jiong Yes it is very helpful especially if the pre-applied thermal paste has dried up

    • @JiongMasjesty
      @JiongMasjesty 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Errm, any estimated duration for a pre-applied thermal paste would dried up? My laptop 2 years old for now.

    • @DeepRoy1992
      @DeepRoy1992  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacky Jiong A good way to realize this is by monitoring the CPU and GPU temperature while the laptop is under heavy load (i.e. gaming). If u notice the temperature rising to 90c very quickly this means the cooling system is not working properly. It can be due to dust build up in the fan and heatsink (11:21) or dried up thermal compound or both. Also, you'll notice that the temps do not usually cross 90c that is because as soon as any of your laptop's internal components reaches 90c, it protects itself from overheating by reducing performance. Hope this helps :)

      With this model if you throw the HDD in the caddy on shutdown it cuts power abruptly to the CD drive (where the HDD is and would be very sensitive to abrupt power loss) it’s a trade off I know but it’s much more secure to have a HDD in the dedicated spot
