I remember going to see Sound of Music as a young boy. I am not a big fan of movies that are musicals but that movie I have now seen multiple times and love it. Thank God for Julie Andrews. What an incredible singer, performer, actress, and an even better person. Thanks for the memories Julie!!
My grandmother took me to see The Sound of Music on my eighth birthday; which was in 1965; the year that it was released.

I first saw Mary Poppins at the Disney World campground in '79 at age 11. It was so magical and I was completely taken with her and Julie Andrews. I then bought all her Broadway cast recordings and grabbed every VHS of her movies that I could find. Back in the day when some movies were available only to rent before you could buy, I begged the video store to let me buy their copy of Victor Victoria. They finally relented by marking it as damaged. I got to meet her briefly in '90 at a special screening of M.P. Seeing the movie in the theater with her there was a fangirl moment I will never ever forget. I'm so glad that nearly my whole life I've had the pleasure of being able to witness her amazing talents and wonderful spirit.
✨ The night we went to see Victor Victoria on Broadway she was ill and had a stand in so we didn't go. I've never even seen that movie

I always loved The Sound of Music growing up, but getting to see it on the big screen for the first time earlier this year was just a completely magical experience. It's one of those movies that was just made to be seen on a large screen in a theater full of people. Absolutely stunning cinemetography that I never fully appreciated until I got to see it in a movie theater. All that hard work to get the crew up the mountain really and truly paid off and all these years later, it's still gorgeous.
I have seen three variations of the Mary Poppins story (Mary Poppins, Saving Mr. Banks and Mary Poppins Returns). This one is BY FAR the best.

I don't know the first thing about birds. I didn't know what kind of bird a lark was, but when I heard the lirics "like a lark who is learning to prey", I imagined a big bird of prey. Then I looked it up and found out it was a 19cm songbird. Now, I'm just as puzzled as Julie! ;-)

It still saddens me deeply that Julie lost her voice that was HER, by some unforgiveable mishap by the surgeon. I sing songs from musical theatre and movies, and she is one of my mentors (she just doesn't know it!). I have learned a fair bit from her. Her loyal fans will love her to the end, no matter what. She always was, IS, and always will be, one VERY special lady, brimming over with talent for so long. Love you dear Julie.
