Between 1974 and 2005, I worked as a musician there, as well as in Reno, Lake Tahoe and every other god forsaken casino across the Nevada high deserts. It was heaven and hell, but I loved every minute of it. After 911, the steady work started to dry up, so I moved over to cruise ships, working around the world. Those were great times for working musicians…
Vegas was way better when the mob ran Vegas. The comps were way better. Free rooms. $2.95 dinner buffets. Free drinks on the floor. They knew how to take care of you.
People say that, but Mob Vegas is completely different to Modern Vegas. Las Vegas is so popular today, why bother being good value when millions of people are coming, with numbers increasing every year?
@@davehue9517 here in Atlantic City, buffet at Borgata is $50. I used to get comps when Boyd ran the place, now table players get nothing since MGM took over.
i wonder if there is videos of inside of the casinos that are not here anymore, just get an idea of the buildings that are not there, and just to see that would be great, what a beautiful city
The dialogue in the music...wasn't that from "To Kill a Mockingbird" with Atticus Finch talking to Scout? Haunting music. I also went to Las Vegas 3 times in the 80's and that was, for me, the best time.
It would be cool if they could re-spawn some of the legendary casinos down on the Fremont strip or the area. They would be smaller of course and could host world class impersonators that represent those acts from the era of that casinos heyday😮🥲. It could be a down to the button mockup of the original casinos. Almost like an interactive museum. That would be marvelous!!
Fremont Street was the best parr of Las Vegas back in the day. Those neon lights on Frement were fabulous. Fremont Street in its heyday was the perfect blend of glitz and over-the-top kitchiness. IMO it was ruined when it was covered and a zip line added. It has become a cheap Disneyland-like side attraction. I'm old enough to remember when people used to dress up in Vegas at night; no t-shirts or flip flops in the days of the Rat Pack!

Those $2 and $3 buffets are long gone (I'm factoring in inflation). For the same price back then you'll pay more for a Big Mac Meal. Now, for a below average buffet at a place like Excalibur, it will set you back about $30. Also, don't get me started about hotel room prices with "resort" and "destination" fees on top of that. Today they milk you for every dollar you got, even before you set foot in the casino.
The first place I stayed when I went to Las Vegas was a place called the Riviera and it was across the street I think from Circus Circus... It was so much better back then..less traffic.. better comps...better gambling...less fees like resort and parking... wtf happens to Vegas..?? Way too expensive for what you get and what you have to put up with such as homeless people and traffic.. the gambling was horrific and maybe that is why the casinos were pretty much empty... yea I went last year for the first time in like 10 years and all I can say is what a difference and I doubt I'll ever go back
Was. In Las Vegas. With Lady friends. We go shopping. They go to 80s concets was loud. Are ears rang. For days miss 80s Las Vegas. When las Vegas was good.
Did you see the sign at one minute and 23 seconds in this video at the gas station. Mobil regular gas only one dollar and 23 cents a gallon. Those days are far gone. LOL
Gas was $1.19 with buffets under $20 and so on; now the properties are so expensive the owners have to raise prices and lower payouts, charge fees for everything and no comps. Plus, what happened to the show girls? I miss handling the cash, too. These hotels were not built buy the winners so there must be a few losers going there now-a-days. Not that i every won too much but I had fun!
“The town will never be the same. After the Tangiers, the big corporations took it all over. Today it looks like Disneyland. And while the kids play cardboard pirates, Mommy and Daddy drop the house payments and Junior's college money on the poker slots. In the old days, dealers knew your name, what you drank, what you played. Today, it's like checking into an airport. And if you order room service, you're lucky if you get it by Thursday. Today, it's all gone. You get a whale show up with four million in a suitcase, and some 25 year old hotel school kid is gonna want his Social Security Number. After the Teamsters got knocked out of the box knocked out of the box, the corporations tore down practically every one of the old casinos. And where did the money come from... Junk Bonds”.
These old videos are like a fine wine the way they age.
My first trip to Vegas was in 1987 so I can relate to this and how awesome it once was 👍

They knew alright, just check the thousands of holes they dug in the desert.
Yes agreed.
Everything was better. Sad to say but even the drug scene. And look at payday loans. Worse today than so-called loan sharks.
People say that, but Mob Vegas is completely different to Modern Vegas.
Las Vegas is so popular today, why bother being good value when millions of people are coming, with numbers increasing every year?
You can still get good comps downtown especially fremont and the cal. Overrated covid took almost all of the buffets away. Too bad
Thanks for this. How fabulous.
You are so welcome!
Vegas when Vegas was Vegas,
Yes. Agree.
I like those old Las Vegas videos, especially from 50's and 60's. The city looks much better than nowadays. It had a retro charm unlike nowadays.
I was living there in 1982. I was stationed at Nellis AFB at the time from 1982-1984.
I remember my grandmother taking me there for my 21st birthday great times back then
Was great to see Vegas of this time frame !! I was stationed out west and the weekend trip with USO was forever memorable .
Fort Irwin??
The first and last time I went to vegas was around 2016 and couldn't help imagine what it used to be. Im sure Vegas was way better back then.
Wonderful footage, great music.
Many thanks!
@@Footageforprocomwhat’s this music? Why no credit?
Wow.... Las Vegas should bring back the $2.95 buffet...
That's about $10.25 in modern money. The Southpoint has a buffet similar to that price.

Good stuff.. Thanks 👏👏

Just left Vegas two days ago and I miss it already
Peaceful and orderly
Should have positioned the watermark in a corner, rather than the middle of the screen.

It was
I Wonder that too
Las Vegas notoriously prohibited filming inside their casinos back during that old time era unfortunately. Very few videos exist.
Thanks!
The Silverbird Casino Closed Down 40 Years Ago

Great video 😀
Vegas back in the good old days before ruination.
Corporations came in and turned it mainstream. Sad.
I mean I’m pretty sure the mafia owning it wouldn’t have made it much better
u mean bigger mafias came and took it from smaller mafias?
Good archives thanks.vegas yesteryear.
Somewhere Lefty Rosenthal is telling a chef to put an even number of blueberries in each muffin.
Do you know how long that would take?
Nice
Thanks

Haven’t gone to Vegas in 10 years and not going back
High prices on food drink and lodging leaves this working guy no money to gamble…..
The Treasury? You got me with that one. Never heard of it. Good video though. Thanks!
No problem!
