His crystalline chording is every bit as interesting as his soaring, epic solos. He is a very great musician.
Eric Johnson has my absolute favorite guitar tone. I've seen him live once and it's so pure; sounds like the walls are singing
Eric is so under appreciated by the musically challenged. Other musicians understand just how talented he is.
Perfect tone. His fingers move so fast with no messy notes at all. Clean and perfect. Such a pleasure to hear and watch him play.
During his first austin city limits appearance four years earlier he was visibly nervous. His timing was all over the place, he made mistakes, and his voice was shaking when he spoke to the audience.
This time he had alot more confidence.
Thks I asked this one, after the other two. My favourite version is this one. Even better than the original.
The subject matter of the lyrics is so deep, this is where the emotion is coming from when he really goes for it.
What you heard in the beginning is the art of arrangement. A lot of guitarist can play incredible technical passages and patterns but not as many can arrange them into an engaging song structure. And while Eric may not be a powerhouse singer , his voice goes perfectly with the music he writes.
Desert Rose from the same show is amazing as well.
Yeah Eric is and has been one of my favorite players,he has one of those distinct sounds all his own,and I can tell he's playing with about 2 notes.I have an old VHS tape with the G3 concert of him, Steve Vai,and Joe Satriani, it's an Epic show.🤘

Yes, that first G3 was awesome. The opening act for us was Adrian Legg, who blew us away. I highly recommend watching a live version of Adrian Legg - Midwest Sunday on youtube, the dude changes tuning constantly throughout the song.. it's amazing.

First time I saw this performance my initial reaction was one of awe, and that I should just quit guitar. Still in awe every time I see it, but now it motivates me to work harder and get better.
Curt G is slacking if he hasn't thrown a Storyville bone your way. Most underrated Texas band evah.

A bit of trivia for y'all. Eric played for carol king in his early teens as did Reese Wynans who later became Stevie Ray's keyboardist. And Tommy Shannon was Johnny winters bass player back in the sixties, who became Stevie Ray's bass player.
Now see it again without stoping it and maybe you go as deep as the instrumental part (ending part) can take you!
Also a piano prodigy as a young kid

@@TheWolfHunterZ Back in the day, it was rumored that Eric was able to tell the difference tone-wise between Duracell 9v batteries and other kinds in his effects pedals. He prefers Duracell, btw
@@TheWolfHunterZ I notice he hit pedals on the floor and the tone changed noticeably.
I first heard him in the 80’s, when my favorite radio station played Cliffs of Dover, I think it was. I have the whole concert on CD and I believe that it is available on TH-cam
