Fil, classic. Here comes an epic smash through the senses. 😁 Y e a h, stopping in a guitar solo, ah well. 😁 Don't think I seen anyone breakdown a Metallica track so thoroughly, nicely one. #QcumberSquad #Metallica - Fil, I'm off back to the study.
I think this song is somewhat biographical as you said, but about not forgiving his parents(?) for making him feel overpowered and controlled...what I love about this song though is how the verses are heavy and then the chorus is a beautiful soft melody. And a great guitar solo too.
And just like that, I’m 18 again. One band I’ve never seen in concert but hope to one day. The entire Black album is so good. Lars is one of the best drummers ever. Kirk Hammett is phenomenal. James Hetfield has a voice unmatched.
Thanks Sammy this has put me in a Time Machine back to my youth. My poor neighbours are now going to get ear bashed with Metallica all day because it has to be played loud 😂
Agreed. And to think it came essentially out of a fit of anger from Kirk after what he was originally laying down was consistently being picked apart. He basically laid this out of frustration to silence the "critics".
You are absolutely right with the first interpretation. This song is about James Hetfield's childhood. His father left when he was 13, and his mother died from cancer when he was 16. James felt very alienated by his parents' religious beliefs during his childhood. Both of his parents were devout followers of Christian Science, which is a religion where you don't go to doctors, or receive any medical treatment, and there's no grieving or mourning when someone dies.
long story short: you brought me into this life that I didnt choose, you pressed me into this constrictive mold that I didnt choose, when I learn that life has more to offer, you push me down and alienate me. You did these things to me and I am the way that I am, so I dub YOU the unforgiven. You kept telling me that I was brokenand wrong, but it's always been you who were wrong. YOU are the unforgiven. You are the problem... and (tangentially) we need to assume that the people who forced us here... well, maybe they were always wrong and we need to be better.
Its interesting why you have to cut the song off every few seconds to let us know a feeling we already are feeling...Hey here is a option...Play the song in its original play through to the end and comment after ?...I mean really its as simple as that...not really that difficult ...Are you on purpose trying to piss us all off to unsubscribe?

This is my thought as well. Basically stating he's not going to forgive his parents for what they did to him.
All these years (since its release) i could never grasp the intent of the video within the context of the song...until now. I'm blown away.
🤘
Oh my Metallica

Reveals a whole other perspective. 🔥

Well he still have unforgiven 2 and 3 to keep unforgiving.. all three are good!!
I've always thought it was his parents that were The Unforgiven.
You are correct
One of Kirk's best solos in this song!

Yes. That's actually why I started my TH-cam channel.
James had a horrible childhood it’s about his childhood
Je suis un fan fini de Metallica. Je suis tatoué Metallica et je mourerai en les aimants et the Unforgiven restera ma chanson préférée d entre toutes
