I love everything about Hungary in Civ 6: the civ's ability, the leader's abilities, the thermal bath, both UU, the music and the leader himself. Hungary is for sure my most played civilization in this game. Great coverage!👍🏻

Great video and very educational, my only question is how do you consistently get to the first golden age without any civ score bonus? I actually struggle quite a bit when I don't get the +4 from the lucky continental split
Most of the era score just comes from scouting, hence why I open with two scouts in virtually every game. Meeting other players is +1, finding a tribal village is +1, finding a natural wonder is +1 if someone else has already found it or +3 otherwise, etc. You can't guarantee you'll hit your first golden age when playing a civ without anything unique to produce in the ancient era, but the odds are still pretty good if you play properly. I have a youtube short on this channel which covers a lot of the miscellaneous sources of era score you can work in if it looks like you'll come up just short for your first golden age.
on average I get about 1 geothermic within a 3 tile range of my capital HALF of the time. I don't understand if it's bbm that's weird because I also seem to spawn near crazy mountain chains and very often end up being caved in. Also the rivers such the river spawn bias feels like it's the same as any other civ. Eitherway HOW DO YOU GET THESE SPAWNS?
Glad you like the video, but base game content isn't particularly high on my agenda at the moment. Try reading Babylon's bonuses a few times if you're hungry for base-game brokenness
you NEED to do feudalism builder montage in every one of your videos hitting feud in this game is better than porn I swear you also have a ton of editing potential, may I suggest some songs to go with it: Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire, Perry Como - Magic Moments, Betty Chung - Bang Bang (Mixed) if playing asian civ, Smash Mouth All Star, Ain't No Mountain High Enough
I technically already made a Nubia spotlight actually, although it predates my modern formula for civ spotlights and is a bit dry. Your feedback is noted, though
Maybe it's because I don't fully understand the implications of CPL, CivFR, or other online bbg communities, but I feel like buffing some civs could be beneficial for variety. My main example is with the Khmer who are fairly underwhelming in bbg compared to GS, especially with the exclusion of secret societies and the nerf to work ethic. The lack of faith from aqueducts per pop., the 1 less housing, and inferior food yields means that he suffers big time compared to civs like Hungary (maybe I'm biased, but civs like Hungary and Macedon didn't need the policy card removal, simple because of the power of other civs like Australia, Ottomans, and Japan in free inquiry). Bringing him back to his base value (without changing river goddess for obvious reasons) could be beneficial to bring back religious civs on the spotlight.
Khmer could definitely use a buff right now, but I think the BBG team is hesitant when it comes to that civ as Khmer was previously one of the single most dominant civs in BBG multiplayer for years. It's been a while since it's actually been in the spotlight, though
Khmer is still very strong due to free amenities, housing, extra food. It was one of the most dominant civs in the previous CWC and really isn't that different since then, only the meta has changed
@@mammaletto Nah BBG patch 5.5 nerfed their holy site river adjacency from +2 food to +1, then patch 5.6 nerfed the faith adjacency from +2 to +1. The loss of 1 food and 1 faith in every city with a holy site along a river is actually fairly significant. Enough to push Khmer from being very strong to being average at best, IMO. That 1 extra food in particular was key to making Khmer dominant on full-plains spawns - it could get away with running Choral Music & Ancestral Hall easily, relying solely on the civ bonuses for growth. That doesn't work nearly as well now
This game is played in CPL, which has an elo system with rating adjustments based on your placement at the end of the game. If a game goes all the way to a victory screen, 2nd-10th place are determined by the scores players have at the end of the game. From Greece's position, he sees that Egypt and I are both in a space race. He could attack one of us - however, that would end up just handing the game to the other one, and he wouldn't really stand to benefit from this. Instead, it's actually in his self interest to go pick on a little guy (In this game, that was Russia to his north), conquering as many cities as possible to inflate his score and secure 2nd place in the game report. Egypt tried to play for 1st, narrowly lost, and got 5th place for their trouble. The CPL rating system for free-for-all games is truly infallible and creates some marvelous incentive structures.
Speaking as the Pericles player: Something Herson didn't mention is that there is a kind of general rule of not warring between long-term allies in CPL. If you 'backstab' too much, people won't trust you and will do the same to you, so it's better not to in the multi-game meta. Even though this is a ranked game, it's not a tournament game and players don't really try-hard. Herson is the kind of guy who will send units to the weakest player in the lobby if it can get him an advantage. You can see a lot of Herson VODs where he milks an irrelevant player for position. Personally I like to let the new / low skill guys chill usually. Initially I was killing Russia (who already left and was AI) cos I was not in range to bomb Egypt (he was holding up the game), but it became apparent he wasn't going to be able to compete anyway. You have to consider as well, it really isn't a foregone conclusion that Hungary wins here. He could have been attacked earlier, fallen behind in science or whatever else and not been the one to go for. As Greece I of course had a big fascism window but it's not really possible to prepare to push him when he has traders in my land seeing any potential build-up of troops. Also I am concerned the whole time that Mapuche or Egypt might push into me, especially if I am already bogged down in a war. Another thing you don't see from Herson's POV is that I was beelining Artemis at the start of the game and lost it. I ended up bending over backwards to get the first golden age and generally having a bad start. So when I am coming into this with the mindset that I am screwed, getting second seems pretty nice.
The market took 7 turns to build in the build menu and after starting it, it changed to 5 turns. With a 50% decrease in production cost, shouldn't it have changed to 4 turns?
Hungary's bonus isn't a 50% discount, it's 50% extra production. It's actually equivalent to only a 33% discount in terms of the number of turns it'll take to complete something.
Not always. The city parks strat requires committing 3 entire governor titles to Liang early, which isn't always ideal. If I had first-met a top-tier city state like Zanzibar or Johannesburg, I may have wanted to spend a title on Amani early so that she could serve as two envoys. If my spawn was really low on food (think full plains where 1-3 forest hills are the best tiles) I wouldn't have been able to skip Magnus's promotion for +2 food on internal trade routes, which would mean that I wouldn't have enough governor titles to get Liang's city parks promotion early. It's fairly situational
