Akane's facial expressions always say to me, 'I have the best job in the world, and I love every minute of it! Although it's easy to tell they are all having fun, she seems to exude pure joy in what shes's doing! Great song, great reaction!

I'm really glad Chase pointed out her adjusting her tuning mid-song after some tool yesterday on another reaction claimed to have been at a show where she was miming to a backing track - even though there's fancam where you can distinctly hear her amplifier. Some people are apparently so envious of talent and hard work they have to make up stuff to feel better about themselves.

@@stevehall5128 Steve i saw that very comment that's why I left this one. I was gonna get involved but everyone was already doing a great job of putting him down. When I saw B-M at Islington, London 2019 there was the odd occasion when Miku played a bum note or chord, but I guess by that tools logic she faked that as well :)
Just to name a few. Carlos Santana is an influence for Kanami, the lead guitarist. Maximum The Hormone and Western bands like Deep Purple were Akane's influence, the drummer. The Bassist, Misa, was inspired by the Smashing Pumpkins.
If you watch Thrill, or any other vids with the Fender bass, you can see that MISA has a Jimi Hendrix sticker on it. She started at the age of 3 learning piano and then moved to guitar. She only switched to bass after another band she was in needed a bass player.
They also hang out a lot with Silent Siren. I think it's genuine reciprocation of interest between the two groups but sometimes I get the nagging feeling their shared production company is pushing this.
Misa was also inspired by Paz Lenchantin, an argentine bassist and now member of Pixies.

Judging by the breakdowns and solos I've heard from Kanami on various BM songs, I'd say she also seems to like a large variety of classic rock and metal bands from all eras. I've heard clear influences from Pantera, Rise Against and Mike Campbell (lead guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) to name but a few. It's really revealing of her musical ability that she can write a song with a punk rock main riff and include a breakdown and solo that could have appeared on a prog metal album.
Kanami has said Santana, Larry Carlton, EVH as influences. Kanami posted a beautiful tribute to Van Halen in a nice tweet. She says how she studied and loved his phrasing and " tapping". Puzzle, Turn me on, The dragon cries are so incredible. Take me higher, Kanami lays out multiple solos, showing a Slash influence on the Wah peddle. All songs in my top songs of all time.
They have multiple interviews out there. Kanami does interviews with PRS, Guitar world. Kanami writes and composes the songs by herself at home, usually around a solo. Thensends it too Misa, Akane too add their parts, and Miku who writes lyrics. But, yeah Puzzle really shows Kanamis genorosity and talent, so many riffs in one song, other bands woulcd write three four songs out of. Kanami is right there with: EVH, Slash, Neil Schon, John Petrucci, Al Pitrelli, David Gilmour, Cris Olivia, my favorite guitarists.

@@artomatt hate to break to you but, I literally just watched a video on the Duracell vs Energizer battle. It seems the two companies came to an agreement. Duracell can use the bunny inside the USA, and energizer gets to use the bunny everywhere else. Basically your both right.

This is the song that really made me want to get my hands and ears on everything they did... this is a superb performance and I will always say the same thing about this live in particular: The song that came before this one is "FREEDOM" and there should be a video with both songs together. In "FREEDOM" you see Miku very willingly taking the microphone and dropping the guitar, doing her part on the backing vocals, then, later, after Miku "duels" with Kanami along the guitar solo, Saiki takes her shoes off and steps down to the pit, climbs on the crowd fence while some of the staff holds her so she won't fall or get engulfed by crowd, and starts singing and dealing with all those raised hands just below her... then she steps off and Miku "steps in" holding the mike only and wraps up singing Saiki's part while she is off stage, gets her guitar back in time for "REAL EXISTANCE" to come ripping like a m*********r, Kanami headbang swinging head, the lights, the smoke, the (Band-Maid's) Fire and Saiki come in... barefooted just like MISA and at some point they have this little "dance" between them... I mean, I always need to watch the both songs, this is such a great collection of moments all stuffed in these two songs... and after this one, "Choose Me" as the last song of this concert ... It's a freaking delight, the whole thing - acoustic moments, MISA vs Kanami solo parts, "Onset", it's a blast!!
Influences, like @Falkarios said, Santana, Deep Purple, Maximum The Hormone and Smashing Pumpkins are the ones that are often referred...
Is this concert available for purchase somewhere? I know the Shibuya one is out on Blu ray, but what about Zepp Tokyo? This is clearly a professional recording crew.
@@PaleHorseShabuShabu Well, nowadays it's a rare item to buy and when it appears somewhere, like in CDJapan, it's around €400/$480 ... It comes with the limited edition of the single "Start Over" - the dark blue cover, and it has a bunch of great items like 22 photo cards, the Zepp Tokyo 2018 BluRay and a CD with "secret MAIKO lips" and a special box packaging with a limited to 3500 copies world wide. It's a shame they didn't release it as a stand alone BluRay - it's even more complete than the Shibuya concert (as they took out the acoustic songs that where played in that concert.)

Influences?? That girl is a reincarnation of every great guitarist. She was probably born with a guitar in her hands. For being so great in what she does, she's the quietest and shyest member of the band. But put her on stage and she becomes a monster. A cute little monster.😍😁

And you should check out their April Fools song from 2018, "Secret MAIKO Lips", it's awesome. They pretended to change their gimmick from maid to Maiko (Geisha in training), and the result is magnificent.
Getting the whole Fools progression, 'Secret my lips' to 'Secret MAIKO Lips' to 'Gion Cho', would be an awesome Xmas present.

For your next one, whenever you get to it, Moratorium. Shock full with technical stuff, and the bass is insane in it.
They have a lot of rock and jazz influences, and three of them (Misa, Akane, Kanami) have deep academic/classical training. As you work your way through the catalogue, you will hear rock, metal, jazz, samba, funk, classical, you name it. They use everything, and blend it all seamlessly.
Have you seen Saiki walking in the first part of the song? She lost her High Heels in the song before ( Freedom ) by having a bath in the crowd ( female side ). After the solo ofKkanami, she did get them back.
What u awaite Chase 😂 Band Maid is just amazing thru and thru ,these girls is what the hard Rock music needed they so innovativ so takentet musicans they not just drive one good sound till the end they always try make best of every song and when u see these girls on stage the friendship they have and the fun they have play together go to the fans and that is one reason more we love our Maids damn i love that Band ❤

@@williamzhang970 "Apparently" meaning that it an unverified information. But I think it comes from an interview. A lot of information can be tracked back via Reddit, where people translate interviews and social media posts from the band. The subreddit is also visited by the band members.
Kanami said during an interview that MISA is the only member that doesn’t listen to the click.
She said MISA is a “feel” player who locks into the groove.
She also said MISA has perfect pitch.

Im lucky to have 3 bluray concerts now and there's great variety to their songwriting...from hard rock to tender acoustic moments. A word about Miku...the girl who started a hard rock band but didn't play an instrument, got a better singer and relegated herself to backing vox, pretended to play in the videos (like Thrill) and then started learning guitar from lead player Kanami...not only enhancing and further defining their sound but now confident enough to post solo videos showing guitars and equipment...example link... th-cam.com/video/QSFxfcIsQT8/w-d-xo.html And Chase, have you seen her 'Magic Spell Time'? Her personality solo where she chats to the audience while her bandmates take a break. She's quite some character...the 'rookie' in musician terms, but the founder and absolute heart of the band...and talented lyricist for the band too.

Yep, the Zepp Tokyo 2018 performance was a much better mix than the Shibuya 2020 concert...don't really know what happened there but Kanami's guitar was Way down in the mix and even MISA's bass was low...Zepp was sooooo much better!!

The "mix" for the 2020 Shibuya concert depends on your playback device. The guitar screams & the bass is massive. If your device doesn't deliver, then tweek the EQ. The mix is there, you just might need to look for it, if your player doesn't recognize it.
Nothing beats Shinkiba Studio Coast tho!
They took the Zepp audio straight off the mixing board. They took the audio from Shibuya from area mics. That accounts for the difference in sound levels.

This was the one. Third song I'd ever heard from them, and it was THIS one that I KNEW. I'd found something that would inspire me to practice drums again and learn new things. Akane may not be Neal Peart, but she plays in ways I'd never played before. Real Existence being the perfect example of how she never stops moving, never just repeats the same thing over and over through the whole song. She just won't stand still. But at the same time it fits the song as a whole perfectly, supports the rest of the instruments exactly right and is just so damn fun to listen to! Like Keith Moon actually staying on time and having thought through what he was going to play ahead of time.
This was great. This is the Band-Maid song I have been jamming to the most recently. I tend to enjoy guitar the most, so it's great to have my attention drawn to the bass and drums and then I appreciate them more. Always good to hear the insights into the song writing as well. The only sad thing is that there aren't videos up of the live versions to Moratorium, Don't You Tell Me, Turn Me On, and Puzzle that really converted me to being a Band-Maid believer/Maidiac when I first started listening to them back in January.
Not sure if there will be a music video to accompany the release of the new single on December 2nd or not, but the hype for new Band-Maid is real for me.

Chase, they're supposed to drop a new song (next week, I believe). Although I don't know if it will have an accompanying video come out at the time. The new song ("Different") is also going to be used as the first OP for an anime coming in January (Log Horizon, season three), which should really help raise the band's profile. Finally, the new album ("Unseen World") comes out early next year, so there will be new material for you soon!
They will also have a virtual concert in december!!!

Great reaction. Yes Band-Maid have backing tracks - there's only so much they can do live. This song has lyrics by Miwa Sasaki and music by Koji Goto (ck 510). The studio version was on their New Beginning album from 2015. A couple of earlier tracks worth a listen : The Non-Fiction Days and Secret My Lips. Two more recent : Bubble and Glory. And there's also two Band-Maiko tracks : Secret Maiko Lips and Gion-cho

Thank you for Reaction Band-Maid. They are hard rock band and are now considered by fans to be one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually perform 23 songs and 2 hours live. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara Tokyo and had the idea of playing hard rock in a maid costume. That's why the band was named Band-Maid. "Thrill" was their first music video in 2014, played 2 million times in two weeks and saved them from breaking up. At that time they were just around 20-23 years old. And then they have been doing LIVE overseas and increasing their fans. Now they are writing, composing and arranging all the songs. 30 songs have been released on their official TH-cam, all of which are killer songs.

Saiki : Lead vocal, the youngest, and member call her a teacher and she make various decisions. likes bullet trains.
Kanami Tono : Lead guitar, composer (prolific genius), good at piano. hobby is reading. good at making sweets.
Akane Hirose : Drummer, band leader, good at funny faces, She is a big eater. She loves anime.
Misa : Bassist, stage drinks are liquor, play with bare feet. She is the most shy and reticent. good at cooking.
MISA and Saiki kneel down to pay homage to each other for both donning a similar look and somehow ending up both barefoot (I know why ;-)... and for theirs and everyone's musicianship that's rockin' the house like never before.
One of the best things I love about Band-Maid is that they don't write bad songs. Every time you listen to a song, it becomes your favourite. Until you hear their next song. Then it becomes your favourite. And, so on, and so on. Another great breakdown Chase. I already checked out your colab with Julia the other day. Awesome as always. Maybe your next colab could be with a Band-Maid song. I love her breakdowns of them as well. As for the girls influences. I won't go into that now, as many of the fans have already given you the info on the girls influences. It'd be great if you could do a breakdown of Puzzle, and the acoustic version of puzzle. Tho it's hard to find. I know some of the fans have the video, and could upload it to you. But, TH-cam tends to take them down. Spoilsports.

the music video version of this was the very first song i heard from band-maid, and it was like: okay, someone can make rock and roll as good as motörhead, but they are beautiful japanese girls! and it turned out, that their talents are way beyond their looks... and Saiki is laughing while singing... beyond comprehension.
I discovered them threw your reactions. I was getting recommendations on your reactions, but I didnt liked the idea of japanese band in maid costumes and kept refusing them. As a number of your reactions to them grew bigger a thought that they must be really good and gave them a chance.
I fall in love with them in the first seconds. So thank you for the numer of your reaction and quality and quantity of your musical insight.

This is pretty much my story, too, except that I never disliked even the idea. The fact that Chase had done even 2 reactions was enough to tell me that they'd be worthwhile. As those first few reactions started to mount, I resisted because I knew it would be a rabbit hole.... This proved to be correct once I took the step. Not sorry I did, not in the least.
Im only half way through but wanted to drop two quick comments.
1. THANK YOU for explaining the backtrack and how that's done! Its been driving me a bit crazy as I noticed it here and at least one other song (onset for sure) and didnt know how it was done. Wow! Damn. Impressive.
1. When Saiki and Misa are messing around, Saiki points down at her foot. Why?
I watched this whole concert. In the previous song (Domination I think it was?) Saiki went out into the crowd and lost her shoe and was pointing it out to the "Barefoot Assassins" ha-ha.
Also... lost her MIC! and Miku finished the vocals for the last chorus. Really really.
Its things like that and details you seem to always catch and point out that sets this band, and honestly your channel apart.

Saiki took off her shoes before going off stage. Losing her mic is a new one I never heard before. This story gets more elaborate every time. I almost feel bad for ruining it.
@@falagar4567 I watched the concert. It was the Zepp one. Look for it online if you can. It was Freedom (Not domination) they were performing right before this song. I didnt catch the shoe thing at all if someone hadnt mentioned it, but Miku taking up the vocals was clear something had happened, but its off screen.
@@Running-withscissors During the solo there is a wide shot of the stage and you can see Saiki siting down and taking one of her shoes off, then just moments before she appears in the crowd you can see both her shoes lying on stage. There is a brief moment where you a get a shot of Akane and you can see Miku handing over her guitar before joining Saiki on the vocals. What I'm saying is that she took over the vocals in the end to give Saiki time to get back on stage, not because something went wrong and she had to step in.

Turns out there is a lot more that can be seen "on screen" than what appears at first. As a bonus easter egg you can see Saiki's shoes in the video above around 8:04.

All Backing Tracks are played by Kanami and loaded in to the computer. But they don't have to have the computer to play. In fact it has gotten lost with the luggage.before. They just rearranged the set list and played without it. They were more worried about the sneakers they had bought in L.A. than the computer. I asked in one of the Groups once if they thought Backing Tracks were cheating. The response was over overwhelmingly, "With results like this, who cares?" Her biggest influence is Santana.

@@2abug Yeah, everything I have heard from them is really good, from both Oiran and Raitei singles to the covers on TH-cam. I should probably try to follow them more online but as an English speaking fan, I am not sure where would be best. Will they be releasing a full album soon?
@@3WWizard I’m not speaking Japanese either so it is not easy to follow sometimes. I’m not sure about the first album, I have not informations about it. I think the best way to follow them is on their TH-cam channel. They aren’t on Facebook and their official site is only in Japanese. You can follow them on Twitter but I’m assuming it’s only in Japanese too 🤷🏻♂️

You asked for Kanami's influence. During an interview in 2018 she spoke highly of Carlos Santana. Is he her inspiration don't know but might give you an idea. Misa was at the same interview asked who she would like to have a drink with and her answer was, Paz Lenchantin. Perhaps a glimpse into who she is influenced by. Great reaction once again.

Glad you finally got around to this one. I think this one gets the closest to being pure classic rock of the songs they've written. It just sounds like something from the 80's with some new modern pieces in it. Your insight as always was appreciated!
This is one of my favorite videos. Miku dropping that guitar RIGHT out the gate, such power. Kanami windmill headbanging. Saiki lost her shoes and dancing with our favorite barefoot assassin, then flipping the bird real quick at the culprits of the missing shoes. Miku tuning her guitar mid-play. There's just so much going on, WHILE one of their best performances is being done. it's brilliant.
I would like to point out that Kanami didn't write this particular song. My request for the next reaction will go to "Daydreaming" as at the time it was released Kanami said it was the hardest song for her to write and as a result became her favorite. The MV is on the official channel.
And if it's the Zepp live version, even better!

Please, do new Unlucky Morpheus songs, I think you will really enjoy them with their more complex metal sound with symphonic and aggressive attitude. They have oustanding songwriting and are a match made in heaven for your reactions (and it's a challenge to your pausing abilities).
Yes, they are a very important band. Period. It may sound heretical but I think they are the best rock band since the Beatles and Cream. Their only rivals are a handful of metal bands like Nightwish and Jinjer.

This live performance is the one that got me, it was only the second time I watched them on TH-cam Thrill being the first, Thrill was good but I wasn’t sold , a few days later I watched this video and thought oh hell ya! Needless to say I’ve been a dedicated fan of the best band on the planet ever since, love your channel and good honest reviews, you to know what your hearing and seeing from these five very special individuals. If there really is a thing to just having IT as a way of summing up talent in a nut shell, then they are the definition of having IT. Keep up the good work

have lost count of the times ive watched this and never noticed miku tuning her guitar :)...kanami's idol is Santana and is also a fan of steve vai.. i would think they use a click track but i am pretty sure both kanami and akane have triggers pedals/board
Even if they're triggering a sample mid-song, though, seems like they'd need to be playing to a click to do it. Doesn't work if the sample is a different tempo from what they're playing at unless it's a one-shot effect. I suppose it could be set up with a tap-for-tempo like some delay pedals have, but then they'd have to be hitting something 3 or 4 times, at least half a measure, instead of playing their part, unless maybe they used a trigger on the kick drum or something to set the tempo - which seems an overcomplicated way to do it.
