      @@victoriabarclay3556 No, this was the Original Captain Marvel. It was from the 1940's created by Fawcett Comics. Mar-Vell is from the 1960's. It was 10 years after the Original Captain marvel stop publication and sold the Character to DC Comics. For years DC was suing Fawcett , claiming that Captain Marvel was a cheap copy of Superman. Fawcett stop publication in 1953.
      By the way, in the 1960's Marvel comics was called Timely. The second Captain Marvel was an android with the power to detach his limbs. It was from a minor publisher named MF Enterprises.
      Then in the 1968 when Timely change the name to Marvel, Roy Thomas and Gene Colan created Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell.) The character was a male military officer from the Kree Imperial Militia, turn traitor when he allies himself with Earth.
      In the 1980's this Captain Marvel died of cancer. But was replaced by a female earthling name Monica Rambeau. A police lieutenant from New Orleans Louisiana, who possesses the power to transform herself into any form of energy.
      Then in the 2012, Miss Marvel ( Carol Danvers) who got her powers from Capatin Mar-Vell from and explosion , started using the name Captain Marvel until this day.

    As someone who was raised on Jackie Chan movies and now is a big fan of the John Wick series, the stuntwork in these serials are equal parts gutsy and creative to a degree that still holds up. They don't have modern technology and techniques, but they used what they had to its maximum and then shot it really well. When you get right down to it, big flying tackles, dummy falls, piston pulls and breakaway furniture shots are still a lot of fun.

      @JTCH22 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Well no actually. His cape is small even in the classic comics. I think you are judging it by the typical Superman standard of the longer Cape. But Cap’s cape has always been a shorter shoulder cape draped over the shoulder. His design is based on a early 20th century operetta uniform.

    "SHAZAM"...BOOM!!! Captain Marvel comics was sued out of existence by DC on the grounds he was a copy of their super hero: Superman. Billy Batson was a teenaged newsboy who needed a crutch, gaining his super powers from an old graybeard sage he'd met at the end of the abandoned subway tunnel he lived in. [in his comic book, anyway] who always managed to gasp out "SHAZ-UNGHH!" before getting knocked out by the bad guy but always managed to muddle through somehow. I'm 82 and I still love him.

    I'm totally amazed about the quality of the film. Sure there are some lines and blotches now and again. I also like that the picture is clear too. The film stock must have been stored carefully.
    I never went to the Children's Cinema on a Saturday, but it reminds me of Saturday Mornings on TV in the 70s.
    Great fun.

    This Captain Marvel movie/serial is better than any new "Shazam" movie.
    The origin here is better than the comic books, and seems like it could have happened.
    Billy is 25 years old instead of a child.
    Captain Marvel is a "man" and not a man child like the new movie.
    This Captain Marvel kills the bad guys.
    The flying scenes are very good. The action is good.

    I like the fact that the cliff hanger isn't the kind of cheesy affair that the 1960s Batman series was. Every week, they had Batman and Robin tied up and being lowered into a vat of acid (or whatever) and you;d have to wait until the next show (the following day) to see how they escaped. That got old real quick. In this series, they drop the car off the cliff and it crashes to the ground until next week. The airplane explodes in mid-air and you have to wait till next time to see how the hero escaped. Captain Marvel gets killed and you have to wait until next time to see how he rises from the dead. It's always a real tragedy and not some hokey, slow moving conveyor to the spinning knives.
    Also, Captain Marvel threw the bad guy off the cliff 🤣🤣🤣
