- In this video we will see how to make Thaen Mittai Recipe in Tamil. Thaen mittai / Honey candy brings back many of many of my childhood memories, bringing home a handful of these delicious sweets from the Petty Kadai with a big smile on my face. Sadly now the petty kadais have become extinct and so has my thaen mittai. I have tried this recipe several times vary the ratios to obtain the optimal level of crispiness and sugar absorption. I am sharing with you my final ratio which has the crunchy texture and the syrup drips up the moment you bite into it.

I made it with honey : water (3:1, use hot water). It was good and ate a lot without the guilty feeling of eating regular sugar. I took the dough mix while my wife was making idly batter.

Hi steffi! When I was young my grandpa used to buy this for me when he goes for his evening walks. I remember it being at eye catching yellow sweet glowing in the glass bottle. It has been so long since I had it. Kinda brought back memories of my grandpa when I saw this recipe. It's great how u post these kinda dishes that we forget as time goes. Madras Samayal I haven't been to India past 14 years. Yes I have tons of relatives there but due to their odd behaviour I dont feel to go there anymore. So ur saying these sweets are not available anymore? That's sad. I love those petti shops where they sell kadalai mittai, butter biscuits,those yummy lemon lollies...and much more.
