スーパーに並んでいる沢山のお魚も、こうやって各地方の漁師の方たちが苦労してとって、海から揚げて、手で仕分けしてって色々な工程を経ているんですね。考えたら分かることなのにあまり考えていなかった。

It’s so funny bc I don’t even like seafood but I just love this guys attitude and the passion he has in what he does. I honestly just find it fascinating and very entertaining
I love shellfish but this guys so intriguing and really sells his personality well. It's crazy how entertaining this is for something I really dont care much about but yet feel like I learn so much by an adorablely wholesome japanese man lol.
Exactly the same with me!! Fish actually mortify me and I cannot step into any body of water except pools because of my fear of sealife in general (can't look at a shrimp on a plate without getting jittery lol). But this is by far one of my most favorite TH-cam channels of all time, his personality is just so magnetic and entertaining ~

I live in a landlocked state, so I had no idea what ciguatera poisoning even was until I started watching Masaru's channel. I've heard of a similar thing with Orcas though. So much toxins can built up in the whales that when they die, they're considered toxic biohazard if they wash up on the beach.
and whale exploding is also an issue

先日初めて沖縄でグルクンを唐揚げで食べました。海無し県の持ってた魚のイメージが覆されるほど美味でした。

Many of the people in Hawaii still eat the fish. The just stay away from the guts, don’t boil it with the head on, and rarely do they catch the food poison either. I watched a film on it. Many of them hate wasting it too.

Here in Hawai'i we have an invasive species of grouper called roi locally or peacock grouper. Here its known to have higher risk of ciguatera so most divers and fishermen who catch it fo it to remove this pest from the reef. I heard it is delicious, and my uncle who I dive(spearfish) with said its alright when its small, around 2lbs(~1kg) or less, but the ones I shoot I do not eat. Native fish that are known to carry it are usually big barracudas, big uku(green jobfish), and big ulua(large adult trevallies). I heard big knifejaws can carry it too though
well either the fish has it or it doesnt, because the poison will remain in the fish(the guts/meat/etc) regardless.

I grew up in the 90's in Okinawa(military parent), snorkeling with dad, and chasing down weird and probably illegal animals at the local pet stores! LOL good memories, your videos bring them back.

Just so everyone knows, there is actually a rapid test kit for cigutera toxin, the brand name is "Cigua check" or you can just buy generic ones that test for not only ciguatera toxin but other common toxins like brevetoxins as well, maybe he could order one and test it out on some of these fish.
I was curious after his comment so I had searched for one. Unfortunately the one you mentioned has a 25-30% chance to not detect a bad fish.
No, those test kit are unreliable with high failure rate. Successful detection at below 15%...as good as asking if the cat if there's any toxin in it. Only reliable way to detect Ciguatera is using complicated Sandwich ELISA method.

@@outring not really. The options are to not eat something potentially dangerous or spend money on a test that isn't reliable to allow you to eat a fish that if you're wrong because of the false sense of security you get horribly ill.
