There's a whole orchestra in Poland called Heroes Orchestra playing only music from the game. They're amazing!
I remember playing it with my ex girlfriend in 2011 for like 17h straight. She cried when I won. That day I learnt to always let the woman you care about win.

O my god, it touched me so much. My father showed me this whole series when I was little. I still remember sitting on his lap and asking him the same questions over and over, and him calmly responding every time I asked. Watching my dad playing Heroes is probably one of my best memories with him. Thank you, man :')

Музыка четвертых Героев - это что-то невероятное. Одна из самых гармоничных и богатых музыкальных палитр в играх!
А еще она знаменита тем, что многие моменты появляются в самых разных играх, особенно тех времен. Самый яркий пример - Zanzarah. The Hidden Portal: в этой игре весь саундтрек построен на вариациях тем из Героев 4.

Because unfortunately videogame composers only become famous when they work for AAA companies on large mainstream franchises like Elder Scrolls while HoMM and the TBS genre as a whole was reduced to a tiny niche during the 2000s when gaming became a more mainstream form of entertainment.
Because the IQ of the mass is below 100. Which is the bare minimum to listen to Romero.

amazing how there are so many different favorites, shows how good this soundtrack is, for me the Preserve song at 19:09 is a clear winner, absolutely enchanting.

It's so weird that many Homm enthusiasts hate Homm 4. For me this game is a bold and successful move from New World Computing. Ironically, the translation of this game in Mandarin is “英雄无敌”（Invincible Heroes）, which is literally something you can actually accomplish if you're patient enough.
I spent so many hours playing and enjoying H4. Its 'worst' 'disadvantage' is not being H3. It's great game if u treat it a bit less as strategy, and a bit more as RPG. You can sometimes win only by developing your heroes, sometimes you don't need an army...
@@wolszebnik Yes you are totally correct. I do enjoy slaying 50 black dragons with only 2 heroes with utterly different skill trees. Besides, I have to say that the setting that one troop can form an army and move around independently on the map is something nice as well.

@@wolszebnik This is really only possible in the campaigns, from the second or third mission onward. In single scenarios you need an army at all times with heroes mainly acting as support, with spells, tactics or scouting. You can't make superheroes that can take the map by themselves in most, if any, single scenario I can think of (barring Poison cheese, but even that is a fairly limited tactic).
@@TovChapaev @TovChapaev True. Even in campaign on higher difficulty (Advanced Expert and the likes) you cant just rely on might like at all. I also disagree with H4 being less strategic, lol H3 is full of cheese and exploit. Both H4 and H5 have way better gameplay balance and less cheesy than H3. As someone who don't play multiplayer and tried H5 as my first HoMM game, H4 2nd and H3 3rd i am 100% confident the people who say H3 is the best (singleplayer at least) are just old nostalgia circlejirkers

I played this game with my mom when I was 7/8. Now, I’m 19 and going to college and I still play it from time to time. This soundtrack brings me so much nostalgia and many good memories…thank you for uploading.

Also at night while sleeping I always listen to compositions from legendary HOMM games.

Those years are cruicial and are the majority of my identity. To let this go... Who am I then?
The ones that came before me had ideas and memories set in a different thing, lost to time. The future generation will too not remember these.... but they will say the same about a different thing. It's sad, that we don't get to share these memories with the far future, and also have the lost beauties of the old lost to time.... but this is what makes me who I am, who we are.

How is this music so good? How can this make a man want to cry, i don't understand. In wha state was Paul when he made this. This is like music never meant to be heard by humans. Such huge words I know. How did he tap into this river of immersion so effortlessly and elegantly. Give that man everything he asks! I remember this music so vividly just toiling away for hours in the snow and shit. loved it.
The water theme is by far the greatest soundtrack i've ever heard in a strategy game. Insane

The beginning of the grass medley could be also located in Witcher 3 in Skellige. Even though I played Heroes of Might and Magic 3 way more in my child hood, the music of Heroes 4 is still bringing up the feeling I had once. Love it very much, thank you for uploading!

Музыка четверки отличается тем, что ландшафтные треки луга, пустыни, болот, грязи и камня сведены в одну тему. Этого нет в 2,3,5,7 героях. Таймкоды ландшафтов: 34:00 - луг, 36:51 - пустыня, 39:38 - болото, 41:50 - грязь, 44:13 - условная "деревня", 46:20 - каменистые земли. Думаю, их хотели разделить и привязать к упомянутым территориям (как привязали "Снег", Лаву", "Подземелье" и "Воду"), но по причине нехватки времени или ресурсов разрабы отказались от этой затеи.

Being a die-hard fan of HOMM II and III, the intro music and main menu screen made me cry instantly when I first ran heroes IV. I remember just staring at it and listening to the music even before pressing "start new game" for the first time. Then I cried even more later, seeing how they managed to screw up such a great game. After checking out HOMM V and seeing screenshots of VI and VII, I simply don't even want to play those. True story.
what do you mean by "screw up such a great game", what was it that 3DO did that screwed up the game?
@@56ur4 I meant they screwed up the game that heroes III was. IV was obviously rushed. It had some ugly bugs before the patches came out, including random freezes, creature multiplication and there was no multiplayer yet, which would be released in a later version. The company was already going bankrupt and they needed money fast. The balance was a little off in III already, but in IV it's way worse. The drawings and in-game animation are cheesy and feel unfinished compared to III and the overall gameplay felt kind of boring with the caravan management thing. The annoying singers also turn me off, they don't really fit in the music. The battle sound effects are lousy as they were in heroes 1 and 2. So 3 had better balance, drawing, animation and sound. Of course it has its annoyances too, like excessively clicking "ok" all the time, but they weren't a show-stopper for me.
IV felt like a retrocess. Check out heroes 3 WOG and Horn of the Abyss if you didn't yet, they're really worth it.
i didnt know of the bugs of H4, probably cause i got the game later on. Playing singleplayer only for me was a great experience, i enjoyed it a lot. You cant really compare art/animation between 3 and 4 as they use different style (in 3 its only 2d). Some are better some are worse.
Balance wise as i dont play multiplayer i dont care much which faction is better than the other, as i play campaign i play all of them. Its hard to compare which skill is better than which, as they do different things entirely like "stealth" skill is useless in combat but incredibly useful for generating resources. Hero dying may be annoying, just take him back to town, also its easy to keep him safe early, later have hero learn combat skill for high def and he wont die easily. There are both betters and worses between "hero in combat" and "invincible hero" system.
Spells has 5 schools and categorized into 5 levels, some are better than others of course, but generally their power coincide with their level.
I believe this system makes it more balanced than in 3: A hero must commit 15 levels to get the strongest spell of a school, not just 3 level for knowledge (can learn spell of any level) and 3 level for max efficiency in a school.
Initiative and speed are not the same thing in 4 as they are in 3 therefore Mast Haste/Slow is no longer super busted. I almost always use either of these 2 spells when i play H3. Hero's own initiative matters, higher init allows you to get the first attack/spell, or last to counter the enemys spell. Big impact spell abuse is also easier deal with.
Game flow and combat flow are different. Combat map size is much bigger (more cells), split unit into more stacks to defend a ranged units is harder (which is how i cheese out lots of fights in 3), stupid obstacles does not have as big of an impact, instant retaliate means the fight between 2 big stacks of the same power is no longer favored in the way of the one who attacked first ( aside from "first strike" and "no retaliate" ability). Instant ranged retaliate is kinda stupid, yeah. Most battle tricks in 3 to use in 4 are harder to pull off/ doesnt work at all, as H4 combat has their own tricks/cheeses/strategy however you like to call it. There will be must less perfect no loss battles and many times you will have to decide whether the gains is worth the predicted losses.
Potions are mostly very situational/useless, except for healing / mana /immortality. Immortality is kinda busted, this thing should be removed, or make it much more expensive than 1000 gold.
Caravan management is a complete improvement to 3's external dwelling system. Find it annoying, you can always do it the same way you do it in 3.
Those are my takes on some differences between 4 to 3 and why i can embrace it. And thats not close to all of them.
All in all, i thought you said they screwed up 4, but "screw up the game that III was" just mean you juts dont like how 4 is not 3. Different does not equal worse. You should be more open minded to judge something objectively. H4 gameplay videos, H4 directories in game forums and people who enjoyed H4 existed, to them, to me H4 is not just not a bad, but very good game.
But Heroes 4 have a best story by far.Music is beautifull.Heroes 4 is the epic.Also 3 and 5 is the extremelly good.Cheers.

Everybody comments about memories that this soundtrack brings, but did anyone of you notice that this not entirely HoMM4 soundtrack? Tracks 2, 3 are from H5. Not sure about where did the 4th track come from. Same goes to "End Turn 2". I don't know how did this happen, but well, could be fixed...

HoMM V tambien es buena, aunque algunas cosas no me gustan(como el sistema de rejilla cuadrangular, los turnos son semialeatorios), pero puedes customizar mas a tu heroe, me encanto ese skillwheel, la música tmb es buena.

As the composer explained, for anyone who doesn't know how videogame soundtracks(or movie soundtracks for that matter) are made, composers buy access to large libraries of instrumental music and stock sounds created for commercial use and blend them into their own creations when needed. It's why in the HoMM 2 and 3 soundtracks you can actually hear pieces that you'd be familiar with from older movies and even some more famous works if you are old enough. No one creates these soundtracks from scratch when they involve the huge variety of instruments and even choir and opera singing segments that the HoMM soundtracks have always involved.
@@xKinjax The thing is, that dude literally took already completed compositions, threw some of the instruments away and called it the soundtrack for HOMM4. This is not OK at all, this is a ripoff and extreme laziness. That person can't be called a composer, because there's literally no composing involved, throwing away instruments from a completed song is not composing.

@@laurentsnoose2553I think we were all too harsh on Heroes IV. I was as well (played it in 2006) and I remember that I was displeased as well, especially after being so used with the HoMM III masterpiece. But actually IV did something few games did after: innovate!
Of course, some of the new ideas were bad, but most were really nice additions/chages imo, and it was the best option, III set the standard too high.

For anyone who has the soundtrack, the Grass Medley is, in order: Desolation, Searching for a Dream, The Prayer, Hope, The Mountain Song, and then something I don't have in my copy of the soundtrack (which is the one that comes with the GOG release of Heroes 4.) I also don't have Main Menu 2, End Turn 2 or Credits 2

Интересно, что композитор Ведьмака 3 использовал вот эту 59:05. Wandering композицию для одного из скеллигских мотивов. Из-за этого, играя в Ведьмака, меня такие флэшбеки накрывали приятные. Вот вроде плагиат получается, а вроде и приятная отсылка, музыка ведь великолепная и идеально подходит как к героям, так и к ведьмаку
Музыка четвертых героев делалась из ассетов, так что это не удивительно.

In my free time I'm helping a friend of mine who has a big Diary Farm (for Austrian standards) and while bringin in the last cut of grass i got bored of my "normal" Music. So I thought I could try Video Game Soundtrack's. I was listening the Witcher 3 OST before the HOMM4 OST and I just noticed that some pieces from HOMM4 sound nearly exactly like some pieces from Witcher3, or is it just me?

Main menu 2 is legit track from the game? I've always played version with all DLC so I've never heared it. It sounds so different from all others tracks :/
