    There is a shortage of Amano shrimp in my area. Which stinks I have tanks that have plants that are in need of cleaning. I have a 3 gallon 360 view tank. It was something I bought to house a betta's for QT and hospital. Well like all my qt/ hospital tanks end up by being show tanks, grow outs and so on. Lol. I suffer from MTS. Not as bad as some of you TH-camrs I fallow. I love your tanks. I love your videos, I love your advice. I think it's safe to say we just love you in this house.

    1. Sacrifice some of your water volume for some extra substrate (sand). Three inches of sand has helped my tanks convert ammonia a little quicker. It can also give trumpet snails a nice home if you're into them :)
    2. If you're still having algae problems in your nano tank, throw in a healthy amount of column-feeding plants (Hydrilla if you can locally source it... or Hornwart if you want something that you can easily buy)

    Personally I find nano tanks very easy as long as you’re keeping hardy species (neocaridinia, bettas, endlers, etc). Maintenance and water changes only take minutes

    I so wish we could get shrimp here in New Zealand. The one native species requires increasing salinity as it matures so impractical (and eventually cruel) to keep in the home freshwater aquarium. I hear you on the family crisis. Our landlord is selling our home #Solidarity :'( From our family to yours, sending you much love and light.

    I wanted to add them...but the LFS has them at such a small size I think the Angels,adult Rosy Minnows or even golden 6" Dojo might be able to eat them @$8 each.
    I think the bigger the Aquarium is always better . I would go with Nano as part of many tanks..but if I can only have one..the largest tank is more satisfaction. Wait until you one day add a monster tank..500 or more gallons Rachel..you will be hooked. Put it in a small greenhouse or better sunroom added to your home. Then you have an ecosystem going..

    I always learn (or re-learn) new stuff watching your videos thanks. Seeing your endlers made me think of something I learned only recently somewhere else though. That is, that endlers exhibit temperature dependant sex determination. I was keeping mine quite cool and wondered why almost all the babies were female. Apparently if the temperature is up near 80oF or 26 -27oC then 60% will be male. Hallelujah! Thanks again for your super videos :) x

    Love all your shrimp! We would so like to add them to our growing home "fish room" (aka every flat surface in our kitchen and living room) but I was wondering... do you know how well they do in hard water? We're in Hawaii so the mineral content is through the roof. Our pH tends to fluctuate quite a bit as well but we always treat the water to declorinate. Do shrimp prefer a neutral pH?

    All of our Amano's decided to exfiltrate themselves from the tanks.
    Either they got eaten by one of the cats or I eventually found their carcass all dried and shriveled up. We have come to the conclusion that we absolutely cannot keep any invertebrates alive. It's our curse which even includes snails. So we make up for that lack of cleaner crew with increased water changes, both in volume and frequency.
    Keep up the good work my friend.

    • @ZSFries
      @ZSFries 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you live in an old house? I've heard of cases like this are caused by trace amount of copper/metal in the water due to copper pipes which are commonly used in houses constructed many decades ago. And invertebrates are definitely sensitive to copper!

    • @tsarminyabright984

      I had to put tight fitting lid on my tank because the jerk amano was trying to escape

    • @BertShackleford
      @BertShackleford 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zeke Strickland Negative. Our pipes are not copper. Someone had suggested that possibility early on in our die off. But alas, we are copper free which is ironic because Arizona is known as the “Copper State”.
      We think it was a disease that’s running rampant throughout the Asian markets which has been decimating the invertebrate population with no end in sight. We order a large shipment of shrimps which naturally came from the Asian market via our middleman. However, this disease is no longer isolated to imports invertebrates. Seems this disaster has reached American shores as well and seems to be affecting breeders/keepers alike.
      After further research it appears to be a well known issue which nobody ever discusses in the fishkeeping community. Call it “comfortably numb” I guess. I have found that the aquarium community seems to be very sensitive (emotionally) which explains a lot but I digress.
      While this disease is known to affect all shrimp species, it doesn’t however, explain the loss of our Nerite snails. That facet of the conundrum still has us baffled.
      Thank you for the recommendation my friend.
      EDITED for incorrect structuring.

    Amanos kill my pygmy corydoras in night though iI feed them every 2nd day. Same with otocinclus. Attacking by night my betta as well. So I cant recommand amanos, not at all. They make a lot of poo as well. They love to eat normal plants like pogostemon helferi or Nymphoides sp. 'Taiwan'.
    So if you like your planted thank with small fish that live near bottom or on things... be kindely warned.

    • @sherryp8967
      @sherryp8967 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Amanos only eat dead fish…so your fish died before becoming an Amano meal. As far as your “poo” claim…Amanos are famous for their low bioload. They also do not eat live, healthy plants….they only eat dead and dying ones. So your plants were already on their way out.
