    This is only my opinion, so dont take it personally. I believe that if you are not 100% comfortable and confident with the gear you choose (including firearm), then I suggest not carrying until you are comfortable (I'm referring to the taking the holster out of your pants, holstering, then putting gun back in pants comment). As long as finger if off the trigger, your garment is out of the way, holstering inside of the pants WILL NOT result in a NG. You always look down and verify that nothing is in the way as well. Again, this is just my personal advice/opinion. You do what is most comfortable for you, and that's the most important thing.

    I've been carrying for a number of years, and I still carry strong side well as weak side, but I prefer appendix for comfort and being able to deploy gun the fastest, all the talk about this not being safe is not true if you just follow a few safety practices , to start I use kydex holsters for appendix, and in a no cant position, they usually have strong clips and hold my gun in position all day long, I use Clinger Stringray, and Vedder Light Tuck, what ever gun you own they make holsters that have a perfect fit, to start, MY GUN IS ALWAYS HOLSTERED BEFORE PUTTING IT IN MY PANTS.... and if I should ever need to pull my gun, it is never just re-holstered while the holster is in my pants, THE HOLSTER IS REMOVED , THE GUN RE-HOLSTERED AND THEN REPLACED IN MY PANTS, if you practice this rule you will be safe and out of harms way, appendix carry , I find is the fastest most comfortable way to carry when driving sitting or just walking, and I always will have one up front even if it's my back up gun, my strong side belt guns are usually larger and better suited for belt carry, nice video Jay..

    I carried appendix carried a revolver but would NEVER carry a striker fired auto loader like that. Besides, in my old age I’ve developed a bit of a bay window that makes appendix carry uncomfortable.

    I’ve seen a million shots from appendix with a timer....
    If going by the numbers... as I was trained, strong side, you can fire on 2 count even when being confronted within an arm length
    I haven’t been able to fire that fast from appendix no matter how hard I try
    Trying to justify carrying one way or the other will always be an endless debate amongst internet “experts” and morons alike....
    Carry what’s comfortable where it’s comfortable for to you that will get you through your day. Whether a revolver, DA/SA, full size, compact, .380, whatever.... having a firearm will escalate the force to save your life if you’re not capable of diffusing a situation or getting out the immediate area.
    It’s not a debate that we are in the mindset of SELF preservation is it? No arguments to be made.
    I carry appendix or 3:30/4:00 o’clock depending on firearm and time of year.

    1. My personal preference is to NOT carry a single stack. My EDC is a Glock 26. It is a very reliable handgun and it’s comfortable to shoot.
    2. I completely agree with your holstering/unholstering safety technique. However, when you are practicing your draw with an unloaded handgun, do you, at any point after the gun has cleared the holster, muzzle yourself? I have found that most appendix carriers do, especially when drawing from a sitting position. I also carry AIWB, and I have found that the MIC holster, IMO, is the safest way to carry and draw from AIWB. During the draw, AT NO TIME does the muzzle ever point at your body before the holster detaches from the trigger guard.

      Oh I love the G26 my favorite hang gun actually. I just actually take the g43 with me compared to the g26 it is just a little thinner and easier for me to conceal. I would rather carry a 19 but the gun you bring with you is the gun that is important.

    Another nice video. One downside is that for an old guy like me aiwb seems to increase printing because the holster sticks out further because of my belly. I’m not real fat but moving the holster away from your belly does seem to reduce printing. I did appreciate your suggestion about not screwing around with a loaded gun while it was actually shoved down your pants. Good thinking.

    Thank you great video . I know lots think appendix carry is dangerous. . For the sig P365 or kimber k6s . It is very very comfortable For this application . No way can I carry my dan Wesson 1911 like this . Just like your different tools in your toolbox . Learn how to use safely and you will be good.. with the P365 you will see how comfortable this pistol is for appendix carry.

    I'm 280 and I carry a Glock 17 everyday appendix... I squash all the stereotypical nonsense of body type and gun size lol... My favorite part about appendix... Is being able to get to my gun in my car... I'm a big guy so I fill out the seat and then along with a seatbelt and stress.. no way in hell could I get a gun out at 3,4 or 5 o'clock... Appendix is the smartest choice especially if you spend alot of time in a vehicle imo..

    In total agreement...Been carrying appendix for over 5 years now...pretty much 16 hours a day, 7 days a week...Currently carry a Shield 45 appendix in a Foxx Small of the back holster (that holster works great at appendix and really helps spread out the weight of the gun). 3 and 4 and 5'oclock always caused discomfort for me IWB. Depending on the firearm and the holster appendix can be most uncomfortable...but with the right holster and the right sized handgun it is the most pleasant I have found.

    Very good reasons. I’m a big guy (6’2” and 250) and like to keep my belt tight. I’ve found that appendix doesn’t work for me when sitting. I carry at the 4 position

  • @Douglas-Ops
    @Douglas-Ops 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great info I agree on all points. It’s very easy to be aware of where your gun is at all times. And if there is a tussle, first place you go is on the ground or against a wall. And you’ll always have access to it. At 4oclock you’ve lost access to it. Better for driving/sitting too. Anyway...👍🏼

    I have a P365 on order and I can't wait until it arrives! I will likely try appendix carry with it or at least give it a try. Does the gun press into your stomach or groin when sitting?
    I currently carry a P229 SAS, which is one of my favorite pistols to shoot ever, but is a bit on the "chunky" side for EDC. It carries well in a shoulder rig or outside the waistband, but both require wearing a loose fitting, extra layer of clothing or jacket to conceal. The 365 is the first pistol of it's size to come to market providing sufficient firepower(capacity and caliber) for my liking. Obviously, any gun is better than no gun in a defensive situation. I'm just excited that with this gun, I won't have to sacrifice comfort or concealabilty, nor feel like I'm underarmed if I need to protect myself or my family.

    • @jaybeckerich4900
      @jaybeckerich4900  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I split between AIWB carry and OWB 3 O'clock carry. Depends on the weather (and as such, what I'm wearing), what I plan on doing throughout the day, and the pistol I plan on using. I use Vedder LightTuck holsters for my CZ P07 and my Walther P99c AS. I like both of those pistols for AIWB carry as they are DA/SA with de-cockers. I load them and de-cock them for carry. I use kydex OWB holsters at 3 O'clock for my M&P 9c (original 12 round), Glock 27 (with 40/9 conversion barrel running 9mm), and my G43. I've tried to carry my G19 at 3 O'clock, but it's just a bit big and cumbersome in that position for my frame size (besides, my Wife has requisitioned it for home defense use). I'm a bit leery of carrying a DA only (e.g., Glock, M&P, or any other type) in the appendix position. I might be overly cautious, but even with a great holster design like the LightTuck, I'm not comfortable with AIWB carry with a striker fired pistol's relatively lighter trigger pull vs. a DA design.
    When I buy a Sig P365, I'll get a kydex OWB holster and carry it at 3 O'clock as well.

    • @jaybeckerich4900
      @jaybeckerich4900  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All fair reasons to not want to carry the guns appendix. It is all comfort, and confidence! I need to get my hands on a CZ next! No such thing as overly cautious when talking about firearms!! 3 o'clock is legit, if I could pull it off I would. The gun sticks out too much for my frame/style of clothing. Thanks for your input!

  • @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017

    Great summary Jay. I think appendix is clearly superior in most situations. The one advantage to 3/4/5 o'clock carry is that it may be easier to draw surreptitiously in a 'wait your turn' situation when you need to conceal your draw as much as possible.
    When I got my CCW course certification the trainer was really down on appendix carry. A lot of old school guys associate it with thugs for some reason.

    • @jaybeckerich4900
      @jaybeckerich4900  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I learned that term from John over at Active Self Protection. If it was anyone else showing those crime videos I'd probably call foul for exploitation, but John appears to be true blue as you get. A real straight shooter in every sense of the word, and my gut tells me that individual self-protection is only going to be a continuing necessity as the effects of globalization continue to wreak havoc on our society.

    I agree with every point and tip you made. That said, I will not appendix carry. It violates one of the 4 rules of safety I've lived my life following and teaching. Love the Vedder Light Tuck!
    I'm more prone to carry my M&P 2.0 Compact at 3:30-4:00 because of the size,though I will carry it AIWB at times.

    I gave you the thumbs down for three reasons :
    A holster with that clip is no good !
    A P365 is garbage !
    And the textbook schoolboy stuff about keeping the gun holstered is not significant to someone that knows what he / she is doing !
    # # #
    Study the textbook ,
    and then throw it away !
    JEET KUNE DO ! ! !
    # # #
    Try a Kahr PM or P 9
    Or a glock 43
    Or a any of the other reliable single stack CCW pistols !
    # # #
    If you prefer a Compact 9 that is close to a Compact Duty or a Compact Duty ,
    Then try a Glock 26 or a Glock 19
    Or a Beretta PX4 Storm Compact 9 or Compact 9 Carry .
    # # #
    I would also consider a Kahr P380 for deep concealment .

    Finally got my 365 from my local gun shop, lucky day I guess! Ordered my Vedder with claw. Seriously never heard of Vedder until I tuned to your channel, thx for the info. 400 rounds of win white box 115 and 20 HST 150 with zero issues. One day three shooters... wow my large hands hurt the next day from shooting so much with a small pistol . Hands down the most accurate small gun I own, I am considerably more accurate with this instead of my 43, but I trust my 43 so it stays on me until 500 and the Vedder shows up!

    Excellent point about always having a holster, a holster that completely covers the trigger guard, and not unholstering a loaded firearm on your body except in an emergency. Reholstering a loaded firearm to a belted holster or holster already in a pocket is asking for visit to the hospital.

      That's a good point. If there is one feature I'd ask for in the new P365 it would be the one my PPS has- an exposed striker at the rear plate. This allows you to cover the striker when reholstering. Great safety feature.

    I was against appendix carry forever for the reasons mentioned. One day just decided to try it and have to say with the right gun and holster set up I have no issues. I’m 5’10 and 160 lbs. I carry an M&P 9C with a 17 rnd mag in a t-rex kydex holster with a raptor claw and It just works. I stoop, bend and sit down with no issues. I do however prefer a thumb safety and that gives me a bit of a warm fuzzy :) Biggest piece of advice I can give is ...“complacency kills”...no matter how you carry. Thanks for the vid !!

    Apendix doesn't work for me because of body style. I dive a lot and sitting it pokes me. I ride a hyper-sport bike hunched forward it pokes me. I carry IWB appx 3:30 I have a European body style (no love handles) and the grip tucks in to my body. So my pistol fits in the curve from under my arm pit to my hip creating a straight line and well hidden under a tee shirt. Never behind the back. I never touch my pistol, I know where it is and that it's there.

    • @jaybeckerich4900

      C Kim,
      I used to ride crotch rockets in my younger years (CBR 600f2, GSXR 750, but close to 50 y.o. now), raced 250cc MX, race road bicycles... We always wore full face quality helmets, leathers, boots, gloves, and sure we broke speed limits quite often when no traffic and safer risk conditions, but we otherwise always rode defensively and didn't blame drivers unless it was an obvious case of intentional road rage, and even then we didn't smash car mirrors, and we always had our plates displayed on the factory provided plate bracket with illumination....
      So WTF is going on these days with many of the 'riders' hiding their license plates/not running plates, smashing car mirrors, and harassing drivers?! It's like anarchy and terror on the roads with some of these 'riders', and it just seems to be getting worse!
      The irony is they have NO respect for other people's private property and feel justified to vandalize vehicles with the least bit of 'justification', while at the same time expecting people to respect THEIR bikes/property, and treat them with dignity and respect, while these riders stunt/race in traffic and act like traffic has no right to be on 'their' roads...
      I don't think it will be long before some angry motorist loses it and runs over one of these "terrorists on two wheelers".
      I'm not implying you're part of that group of 'riders', just thought you might have some insight! THanks.

      I generally take the magazine out, point in safe direction, and simply press check (with my hand not in front of the barrel) to see the round, then release the slide back. Most of the time I will just unload the gun and re-load it if I am not sure.

      I do leave it holstered on the nightstand. It is definitely available at night, however the Canik tp9sf elite (carries 15 but can put an 18 round mag in) is generally the home defense gun. My girlfriend would grab the glock 26 with a 15 or 17 round mag in... yes we have discussed this. haha. Also I do not have any kids in the house.
