I have been on farms my whole life and whites are not lazy, they're usually more invested because they OWN THE FARMS. Seasonal labor does not fix the machinery, they do not deal with midnight calls to the field, they do not lose their farms from a bad harvest. They are fairly paid for a decent job thatany whites would love, but farmers hire seasonal workers because they're half the price.

In the '60s I wanted a car. There were very few jobs for teens, so I wound up working in the fields west of Sacramento as a farm laborer. Summer in the Sacramento valley can be brutal, with many days topping 100F. The Mexican farm workers bust their butts to try to make a living, working 12 hrs a day, 6 days a week . People, if you eat fruits and vegetables, your food has been touched by these people. They pull the weeds to make sure your food an grow. They make sure the irrigation systems work efficiently. They work the harvests. We owe them a thank you for every bite we take. And we need to protect them from the vile legislation that seeks to punish them and their families for doing the kind of work most Americans can't and/or don't want to do . tRump doesn't eat vegetables, which might explain his mental deficiency, so he has no idea how important these good, hard working people are to the food we take for granted. We need more work visas vs not enforcing immigration laws. Just make more work visas, particularly for Mexican workers. Right now we have folks coming from all over the world and particularly from Central America. This is ridiculous. Create more work visas with a path to citizenship. Make it a hard path, but give some incentive.
I've read so many comments about how people say we should take the homeless or criminals to do the labor. They also suggest that Americans would be willing to do the job of harvesting crops instead of hiring migrant farm workers. I can pretty much guarantee that won't work. The reason is not necessarily that the farmers treat the workers poorly, it's the nature of the harvest. Basically, for each crop, you CAN have mechanization to plant and water the plants. But harvesting comes all at once, as the fruits and vegetables ripen all at the same time. So you're forced to have to work really hard for a short period of time. Not that many people can do that. Also, certain crops mature at certain times of the year. Hence the migrant farm worker, who will go up and down the coast harvesting crops as they ripen. This has been going on for longer than the United States has been around. By denying entry of the migrant farm worker at the border, you're in essence preventing a skilled worker from coming in and doing what he does best. And because of the window of harvest, you end up with crops rotting in the fields.
most homeless are incapable of doing that work due to mental/physical health issues.. as for the temp agency, have you ever seen how they work? and how expensive they are for the company? workers can chose to not go to a site for whatever reason.. and the workers are only payed a fraction of what the farm would pay the temp agency (when i was younger i worked at a factory through a temp agency for about a year.. the temp agency payed me minimum wage of $7.15/hr but the factory paid the temp agency $13.00/hr.. thats uh.. a bit of a mark up.. so to pay a farm worker minimum wage through a temp agency, they would be paying much more then they would for someone outside of a temp agency.. and no temp agency worker would do that kind of work for minimum wage when they could just go to the farm directly and be payed more (they still wouldnt do that though.. they would most likely take a job at a different site that is much less demanding for less/hr)
@@tears_of_asariel3198 well it seems that even though these farmers have been doing this for decades, its beyond me that their is not enough legal migrants to do the job. Instead of the appeal for a revolving door for farmers, I think the farmers should sale their farm buy a bigger farm in Mexico. You sardine city folks should move grow your own vegetables 😁
@@g.maximus8056 the reason it is a "revolving door" of migrant workers, is because of the way the work visas are designed, and the limited number of citizenships and work visas granted per year.. if a person wanted to become a us citizen or, atleast get a work visa, even if they were 100% qualified, in good health, no criminal history, pass the citizenship test (that most american nationals would fail) they could still wind up waiting for YEARS to get approved simply because the number the US grants is limited per year.. so.. if you were in that situation, what would you be expected to do.. just wait for years while you and your family are at risk where you currently live? or become an undocumented worker and live essentially the same life you would if you were granted the documents? if your issue is the actual citizenship of them, and for instance, the right to vote etc.. you could still make it work with work visas, given without limit (sure, a few month waiting period for background checks etc) and simply mandate that for the work visa to be valid, they have to live in the US, pay taxes on their wages etc.. essentially becoming a citizen without the right to vote, it would still be a win-win for both parties.. the worker escapes their dangerous/unprofitable old life, while paying taxes, and making purchases in the US, that helps the US economy, still without the ability to vote, if your worried about that as for moving the farms.. yet again, that will HURT the US economy, if you live in the US, why would you want that? if you dont live in the US, you still probably wouldnt want that, but if you do want it, you have no bearing to even be speaking about the issue

It's terrible what's happened because of shortsightedness from what the White House perceives as an invasion. In reality, migrant workers have been following the crops back and forth along the coast for probably 3 to 400 years. It's not that they're invading the country, it's that that's how crops work. Each area has a different time to harvest. You may be able to change someone's immigration status, but you can't change the seasons.

If Americans want to pay the 'real' price for the food that they eat, then farmers will hire and pay Americans to do the work. That is if any American will take the jobs, which they will not. Average Americans will not do this work. If they do take such jobs, they will want much more pay per hour to work on these farms. Therefore, the cost of basic food increases. But the average American will not do such work. So what to do in such circumstances? Farmers have to hire farm workers - from Latin America - who will do the work. Why is this simple explanation not used constantly to explain the reality to the supporters of these racist policies? Immigrants from Latin America are not taking work from Americans because Americans will NOT DO THIS WORK.
Lucia... US citizens can and will do the work of farm labor.. Some will even be grateful for the opportunity.... if they know they have no other options..I know.. I worked 16 hour days when the fish were on.. took vacation time from the service to work the harvest so I could pay to have a transmission rebuilt.. re-roofed three houses for the cost of a meal or two but I will agree..... in many respects Americans are too soft.. not that they "can't" but its too convenient to find ways around to putting in a good days hard labor..No.. farm labor isn't glamorous.. the pay sucks... but that is because the "illegals" depress the market with their "cheap" labor that ultimately costs everyone more.. maybe not in food at the grocery store..... but definitely at tax time..Someone has to pay for the social services and welfare.. The government is funded by the tax payers.. Now as for "racist policies".. just who is the "racist" here??..I recognize that "Latin Americans" benefit the most from the structure of labor as it is.. but I am sure its not a designed concept.. They just happen to be the most prevalent..Now if our government shipped in Africans or Asians but not Latin Americans than THAT would be racist..No Lucia.. you are the "racist".. you just like a different flavor
Our former president has done more than you probably ever have to help the immigrants, he’s also thinking about the American’s safety. Do you not believe in America First?
Farmers obviously need labor, in that case, sponsor labor before the picking season starts. The farmer should endorse, help with the legally required paperwork and travel cost before the picking season starts. Farmers are ultimately responsible for people on their private property, after all, it's a farmer's chosen profession. Same goes for factory owners!
Let us draw a line between legal and illegal immigrants. People who come legally are welcome. Being properly documented will not only ensure that they enjoy their due rights but will also ensure that they are not exploited- like low wages, trafficking and child exploitation.
Thats capitalism Bring in massive amounts of cheap labor to keep costs down Overspend the country on endless wars to mantain control over other countries resources, which causes a migrant crisis(cheap labor) Sell weapons to both sides of the conflict and make lots of $$$
Well... we have a Catch 22 here... I say "Jack Up" the prices of food, 30 cents for an apple is way too cheap. Make it cost $1.30. It's time that American Shoppers get an understanding of what it costs to raise their food. I don't have a problem with a Migrant Worker coming to America, but they have to be paid & monitor themselves. If they come for 23 days, to work, on the 24th day, they better check out through the Border, when they go home. Any breaches of that system should create problems for them being hired again or possessing a worker's card. Try that awhile. I do believe food should be increased in price, cheap food is an invitation to illness.... nuff said. And anything raised in America, should be produced by an American. It's a lesson that needs to be learned..

Give the worker's a CHANCE!!! Good, hard working, honest, compassionate people!!!
Our government should make a program for American homeless
For farmers ,combined with work temp agency's
most homeless are incapable of doing that work due to mental/physical health issues.. as for the temp agency, have you ever seen how they work? and how expensive they are for the company? workers can chose to not go to a site for whatever reason.. and the workers are only payed a fraction of what the farm would pay the temp agency (when i was younger i worked at a factory through a temp agency for about a year.. the temp agency payed me minimum wage of $7.15/hr but the factory paid the temp agency $13.00/hr.. thats uh.. a bit of a mark up.. so to pay a farm worker minimum wage through a temp agency, they would be paying much more then they would for someone outside of a temp agency.. and no temp agency worker would do that kind of work for minimum wage when they could just go to the farm directly and be payed more (they still wouldnt do that though.. they would most likely take a job at a different site that is much less demanding for less/hr)
@@g.maximus8056 the reason it is a "revolving door" of migrant workers, is because of the way the work visas are designed, and the limited number of citizenships and work visas granted per year.. if a person wanted to become a us citizen or, atleast get a work visa, even if they were 100% qualified, in good health, no criminal history, pass the citizenship test (that most american nationals would fail) they could still wind up waiting for YEARS to get approved simply because the number the US grants is limited per year.. so.. if you were in that situation, what would you be expected to do.. just wait for years while you and your family are at risk where you currently live? or become an undocumented worker and live essentially the same life you would if you were granted the documents?
if your issue is the actual citizenship of them, and for instance, the right to vote etc.. you could still make it work with work visas, given without limit (sure, a few month waiting period for background checks etc) and simply mandate that for the work visa to be valid, they have to live in the US, pay taxes on their wages etc.. essentially becoming a citizen without the right to vote, it would still be a win-win for both parties.. the worker escapes their dangerous/unprofitable old life, while paying taxes, and making purchases in the US, that helps the US economy, still without the ability to vote, if your worried about that
as for moving the farms.. yet again, that will HURT the US economy, if you live in the US, why would you want that? if you dont live in the US, you still probably wouldnt want that, but if you do want it, you have no bearing to even be speaking about the issue

At the cost of the tax payer. How does this happen in a capitalist society?
Thats capitalism
Bring in massive amounts of cheap labor to keep costs down
Overspend the country on endless wars to mantain control over other countries resources, which causes a migrant crisis(cheap labor)
Sell weapons to both sides of the conflict and make lots of $$$
Well... we have a Catch 22 here...
Trump base needs to get out and fill in for the shortage of farm laborers!!!
The unemployed intercity demoncrat base needs to get out of the rat and roach infested cites and fill in for the shortage of farm laborers!!!
@@juandoe311 No bro, the Trumpites all kicked, screamed, and throw tantrum begging that these poor under-paid workers go back to their homeland and stop taking away their jobs. Now that these people are gone, all the screamers should go and take those nickel and dime jobs they claim belong to them!
plenty of people living in the steet all over america why not higher some of them ?
Do you really think the people living on the streets would do this work?

If farm work paid well they would have no trouble getting honest legal labor. They like the illegal kind because it is cheap. In this respect, the farmers are no different from other corporations. Privatize the profits, socialize the expense.
Farm work pays well but the reality has always been and will always be not one American will do the hard work required in these farms. This reality is the same in CA as it is in Crab Fishing in NE. The lies you choose to believe is the problem. Getting Paid top wage will full benefits will never get a single Citizen to do the work required at the same level. They would not last a day.

i started pumpkin picking and corn picking at 13
i know quite a lot of ppl that been in farming jobs like that for over 20 years
i doubt uve ever been to a functioning farm and i know uve never worked one
I actually quite well travelled and educated . I picked apples in California and did construction in NJ . Reality is the same while you did farm work back in the day no one is doing it now. My boss in construction did not enough labor to fill state funded jobs that paid $44 /hr had to get migrants to do it. Not because Americans did not apply but just could not do it. My great grandfather was a German immigrant who settled in Skagit County. I wish everyone would get the point. If you are not Native American you are an immigrant.
@Mauricio Labra so where do you live now?
"What people don't understand is, these people are just trying to feed their family's, their just trying to make a living. Their just like you and I."
Me, forced to watch this for an online school assignment: See, you'd think that, but actually...
My dad was a farmer and i wouldn't do farming even do it was our i have a lot of respect for farmworkers
They should find a way to get some help for the people that work on these places that have jobs
There is a way to do all this legally and provide a job for immigrant workers. But the workers have to be trusted also.
I bet all us Americans will do this work 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣yea right
we actually would. Just not for the same pay.
Why can’t prisoners do this job
Americans are not taught how migrant farm work works anymore. We used to do it all the time and in today's low job wages, they'd JUMP at the chance to do this for the money they can make. Try actually educating Americans on HOW TO DO MIGRANT farm work.
How are you
There are also many homeless Americans that need jobs.
The topic is not about wages and opportunity....It is about LEGAL and ILLEGAL Migration.....There are many who apply legally to come to the U.S. to work seasonally, who go through the proper process to enter the country for work.....Then there is the Illegal undocumented worker bringing potential health issues, unknown criminal backgrounds or motives into the country, taking the opportunities from people who follow the rules and processes put in place to protect all......Why is this so hard to understand ?
My sister sponsored me to become a US resident the legal way but that process will take from 12 to 14 years according to the lawyer, by that time I will be old and just be a liability to the country, all these wasted years I have to wait were I could be working hard for the country and contributing. don't care about welfare before any of you comment about that
Is there a need for agriculture foreign workers in US. I want to come to US.
Why don't the farmers go get the people off the street in San Francisco , Oakland , Los Angelis and other citie put them to work and pay taxes verses paying illegals cash and no tax !!!
this is simple about the american mind set : i wana be rich rich rich i dont like hard work cuz i want to be rich being farmers takes too much time make someone else do it i want sushi but i dont know what it is but the name cool give me sushi !!!
Farming is a hard job and can be dangerous also. Keep your sushi, YUK

Change the labor laws, that I hope will change the lives of the homeless here in America. If the farmers are paid better, they will have many applicants waiting in line to get the job.

$12 an hour.
Slopat Plus housing!!!! And the one Mexican said they get paid “ CASH” which means no deductions like taxes, social security etc., while they jump on the welfare system oh and another fact of the matter they send their non-taxed money to Mexico to bring in more illegals.
