I have worked in agriculture for many years. Today's farms actually do not treat employees as they should. I have felt like I was in the 1800's, in pure slavery. No benefits, 6/7 days a week, no time and a half, no vacation time, no medical benefits or anything. It's back breaking work with no gratitude
Not only do people not appreciate how hard it is to work in agriculture they elected a man that consider s most of the people doing this work to be criminal s.
It's not just the Farmer's. I worked for a Janitorial Company & 98% of the Employees were Latino's not just from Mexico. I was told to only hire Caucasians & I never had 1 Caucasian or could find any Caucasians that wanted to Clean banks, Schools, A Mall, Kennecott Mining Co. I had every Caucasian say why would I want to clean & embarrass myself? Nor would I Clean for the wage regardless of what they pay. Same goes for every Hotel/Motel Cleaning & Custodian Positions! Where Latinos will work for Minimum Wage for Seasonal time but want to go back to their countries.
I traveled for a time after my last military job. I supplemented my finances by periodically doing temp and seasonal jobs. I worked with a wide range of people, including a lot of immigrants (documented and undocumented). There were a number of times when the crews were mixed. It was telling to see how many of the white guys would drop off while more of the immigrants stayed the length of the jobs. I also found that immigrants were more consistent to work with because they had fewer personal problems. A substantial number of the white guys who would hire onto these jobs had alcohol and personality issues whereas most of the immigrants who I worked with were sober and well balanced people. So I wonder how much of that is involved with the numbers in this article.
I work in the Produce section of a local grocery store. You would be amazed, shocked and horrified at the food that gets thrown away. Lettuce that is a bit wilted. Apples that have a spot on them. Broccoli a bit past it's prime. We used to feed it to the pigs, but no more. It goes, so they say, to "renewable energy sources." Now I know that we have to protect our citizens against any communicable diseases (read Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" published in 1906 about the meat packing industry in Chicago). But still. That's why cauliflower is $5.99 a head, I guess.
If your going to force something why not just force a wage that makes the job attractive. Don't you think its odd that the people working to feed you get paid way under a starvation wage?
+Ned Flanders I've been saying since the talk of deporting people, that the food will be rotting in the fields, farmers could offer more money etc and just like what happened when one of the states started clamping down on foreign workers Americans didn't want the jobs farmers had fields of crops but no one to pick
I live in a border town and no illegal immigrants are not stealing our jobs, if anyone has that issue it has more to do with the lack of education or drive of that person than another's immigration status. My descendants being here long before any ship landed on the east coast from England I don't understand how others can have such a misunderstanding of immigrants since they all defended from one at one point. I remember when Obama cracked down on immigration and all it did was lead to crops rotting in the fields in this area and eve hit New Mexico'S green chili production. So as someone who lives in the border and whose family has been in this land well over 400 years no Border towns don't have it worse and are not bitching to have a wall, in fact having run a few retail businesses a great deal of money comes from Mexicans coming over to buy for their stores in Mexico thousands of dollars at a time are spent and actually tougher regulations would only hurt retail business especially big name retailers in this area. If your someone complaining that an illegal is taking your job my advice is look in the mirror that is who is causing your problem, fix the issue with that person and you'll be better off.

The reasons why Americans don't farm anymore: 1. Most Americans no longer live in rural areas. 2. The American educational system no longer revolves around the harvest calendar 3. The American educational system is based in technical & service economy skills 4. Farming has been increasingly taken over by big corporations that pay low wages

+Misty, It's not about being "denied" access to work. It's that ICE raids have made farm workers AFRAID to go to work. Crops are rotting in the field because there is no one to pick them. Farmers are offering up to $16+/hr and no one is taking the jobs.
Peaches do pick themselves now; there are machines which can shake a tree and have the fruit fall safely into a net. Grass can be cut by AI, as there have been machines doing this without human interaction for years. Sadly, for every job, there is a machine that can take over for a human (with maybe a few exceptions today).
Why should I feel sorry for them? When I was trucking last year I saw sign after sign after sign that said, "Farmers for Trump." They voted for Trump, and now they are getting what they asked for.
DK3CHAMP there are some fields where machine can process them, no need for labor work. other fields require manual picking, those are the farmers that rely on immigrants for labor work.
Precisely. I grew up in the largest farming county in Indiana and I can 100% assure you that all those multimillionaire farmers voted for Trump. The same people that use illegal labor to boost their profits voted for the party that wants to do away with their illegal labor. You just can't fix how stupid the rural conservatives are.
There will come a time, when the crops will sit on fields and no one will be there to pick. People will go hungry, because of shortage of food in the markets. Prices will skyrocket and only those with lots of money will eat. We can thank our Goverment.

Meli: They are fortunate enough to not be held at a disadvantage. Because they are citizens, they can get jobs that pay more. It's the farmer's own goddamn fault for not compensating his workers.
I have a friend who is an almond grower. I asked them if they pay minimum wage for farm workers. They said they hire an agency who hires the farm workers but that no the farm workers don't get minimum wage. I asked why don't you pay more so they can get paid minimum wage? They said the farm would go under because they can't live on less. My friend does not live lavishly. They don't even have cable TV or internet. I asked why don't you just raise your prices for your almonds so you can pay more. They said the prices are fixed by Blue Diamond the local corporation that buys almost all the locally grown almonds and that they set the price super cheap. Believe me Blue Diamond marks up those almonds they sell dramatically. Again an example of corporate greed.
I'm an American born farm worker. I've been working for minimum wage with no benefits and no vacation time for the past five years. It's hard work you have to be very strong and willing to work out side for long hours in the hot sun. People in the US don't value food enough.
bullshit RW lies , shut up. You obviously never got SNAP or TANF. No one wants to live on $200/month of food stamps. otherwise you have to be disabled to get more than that. If you apply for disability you will be denied because all first applicions are denied. 2 years later if you have a lawyer then maybe you get approved and get SSID
All the farms have “HELP WANTED” signs now. I hope many haters can go and apply to work there and pickup our crops. If not then lots of food will go to waste and food prices will increase.
The farmers don't normally offer benefits is because we don't want to pay more for our fruit and vegetables. Also, most tempi or seasonal jobs in any field of work don't receive benefits.
I work in the vegetable industry for more than 40 years. I have seen very few American s that will do this work. Immagrant s from Mexico and Haiti do most of the labor on farms in Florida and South Georgia and have for the last 40 years. I know I have worked them most of my life. They are getting a raw deal and do not deserve the hateful rhetoric Trump has used to advance polity career. Fear mongering racial slurs and will not solve the problem and deporting undocumented immigrants that have been here 10 or twenty years and have families ,jobs and ties to America is senseless and inhumane. If this continues we will loose more farms and prices in grocery store will rise faster than the already are. I understand that immigrants do most of the work in meat packing and on dairy farms. This has been going on a long time. Republican politicians be have been using this issue to scare people for the last 10 years are so According to most economists these people contribute more than they takeaway from American economy.

Issues like this are the ones that are not thought of when we start screaming immigration reform and control. As Americans, we take our food sourcing for granted and only when it starts to collapse will we take serious note. People forget that if food pricing starts to increase due to scarcity, the wealthy will adjust, but the working and lower classes will suffer the most. Then, we'll start screaming again for a solution, that by then, will be too far gone to resolve.
They are, they actually have the work ethic 'muricans claim to have, and are very Family Values oriented. BTW, I've lived in S.Az for 40 years and known many Mexicans and admire their ethics.
instead of imagining how hard it must be for these human beings to work so hard for so little money ,i'm being called 'soft' and a liberal for mentioning that. Those 'hard ass alt-right wingers wouldn't last an hour on those fields, doing the work Mexicans are doing for them.
Hehehe, the first farm I went to fired me on the spot after watching me pick just one strawberry. The 2nd one showed me how. When it came time to clean the plants he showed me that too.

What a lot of people don't understand is that these jobs are not paid on an hourly wage. They are paid by the bushel or buckets filled. That's why immigrants work their butts off. Because they know they will make more money by producing more. If they were paying based on an hourly wage, they likely wouldn't get as much produce processed. On top of that, the working conditions are awful. The farmers don't supply the workers with a place for shade or cooling; the workers fend for themselves. And they work from sunrise to sundown. Since the immigrants are desperate for any work, they will comply to these conditions. Americans would never agree to this. So if the farmers (employers) would offer a liveable, hourly wage, decent working conditions and not have to work 14 hours a day, then they may get Americans willing to do the job. However, I've seen first hand how grueling these jobs are. Most Americans are too pampered and think they are above these jobs. That's just a fact.
@Elena Duran "if the farmers (employers) would offer a liveable, hourly wage...etc" I agree with you here, but it's going to take more than just some farmers choosing to up their wages. The sad fact is that the root of the problem is consumers not giving a shit about where their food comes from. I am probably part of the problem myself to some extent, but here's the thing. If a farmer somewhere did choose to do the right thing and pay his pickers a wage that would enable them to have some degree of financial stability...a decent place to live, kids who have what they need, etc. then all the rest of the huge companies that are still willing to do the "wrong thing" because they don't give a shit will still have an advantage and will still make more money and still dominate. It'd take EVERYONE doing it at the same time for it to make a difference, and it'd require a consumer that is willing to pay a bit more for the food they shove into their facehole, but be ok with it because they know it means someone somewhere is slightly better off. I think this is a lot to ask of a human being these days, especially the average American one.
Derwin , I don’t care what race, color or creed is doing the work. All I’m saying is that if the majority of your money is from public assistance (welfare) than you should have to work for your money just like the rest of us.
I'm older and have congestive heart failure and a few other real fun ailments going on..Hell, I'm not lazy and need a job, and a home because when i was hospitalized the bank foreclosed on me so i live in my old van. I try to get work and people laugh at me and with disability taking forever I'm forced to panhandle and see the hateful faces and dirty looks of mostly white upper class Americans. Some yelling at me get a job and your not really sick..even though I'm standing there in agony with a cane because of herniated disc and other fun stuff, knowing i use to make more $$ than they did when i was well.. I'm not too lazy to work, i worked on a farm when i was young. I'd love to have a job like that with benefits and housing if someone would give me a chance. I'm not too lazy or proud. Oh, and by the way..if it wasn't for the people of color in my city...I'd die in the street's here. mainly my spanish brother's and sister's. They are wonderful! White people are too proud to work on a farm. They can't drink and go to parties and say "I just got a great new job..I work on a farm" Jesus, i could say a whole lot more but all i know is this..if this can happen to me it can happen to anyone. And pride commeth before a fall.
I feel bad for this farmer I wish that the damn Congress & House would start inpeaching Trump's ass now we will not survive 4 Years of his ass as Potus please people start demanding that Congress & the House start impeachment now
Ronnie Maggard sorry.. it’s a pipe dream.. there are no grounds for impeachment. It takes some very specific infractions and a lot of people to subvert the people’s vote. And mark my words... he will be re-elected. Those polls are bullshit. Go look at the red blue map by counties and see just how much of the nation voted for him. Only because of 2 cities did he not receive the pop vote. The rest of the country loves him and nobody is out talking to them just like during the election. And all those same people will come up out of the woods and hollers, the hills and mountains river bottoms and country land. Because they love what he stands for and the numbers don’t lie. Unemployment and wages and stock market and all the other positive things outweigh the media hype and lies. Numbers don’t lie... and the world leaders everywhere think he’s a rock star. They wouldn’t even bring the stairs to Obama in China so he could get if he plane. They hated him everywhere in the world except Muslim nations. Everybody loves Trump. Turn your TV off of CNN and the main stream news. You will see what I’m saying is true. People like him because.. excuse my language but he says what the hell he feels and he doesn’t give a f***! It’s refreshing! I’m so sick of fake politicians. I voted for him because he wasn’t a politician and he’s most definitely not the establishment. That’s why senators on both sides have it out with him. He’s not there to please them. He’s there for the people. And if people will let him do what he came to do you will all see it will get even better in the economy! The media can chase its tail all day long. But the numbers don’t lie and go look how much other world leaders love him. Our military loves him dearly. They hated Obama. We are a military family. Trump can say what the f*** ever he wants too. As long as the numbers keep coming in like they are. Fine by me... because... NUMBERS DON’T LIE
Be lucky you don't live in Canada. Every time the Canadian dollar drops, those are the kind of prices they pay for fruits & veges since they're all imported.
The majority of the people that migrate north from the southern part of THIS continent are original people from this LAND ! They have been here pre colonization! Or " before the original European invaded this land"...
What we are not talking about here is the fact that American imperialism is keeping these nations poor, and propping up reactionary brutal dictatorships abroad, and destabilizing the economy and general society of any nation that has a change and is pursing a different path, which causes these poor people to flee here in the first place. They come here because they love their own lives and the lives of their families, not necessarily so much because they "love America" as one of the hosts said. I am sure that they would rather stay in the nation of their birth with their friends and loved ones and their extended family (which is a big deal in Latin America). And we are able to live our petit-bourgeois lives because of the amount of capital that flows back to this country (and also because of exploiting the immigrant, and poor workers, here at home). And of course the uber-rich in both the imperialist nation and the ruling classes of the exploited nations get to live like fat cats. When will we ever learn?
Angel Blue: That is the most retarded answer. You have missed all the point. I want to see the millions of people who live in condominiums have their own gardens.
I remember back in the sixties when JFK tried to end the braceros program to put more Americans to work. I remember reading an article in the farm journal about farmers hiring, say a hundred americans to pick fruit or something and when they would go to pick them up most of them didn,t even show up. Americans get used to easy living so farmers need to hire immigrants who are used to hard work.
I worked at a candy factory with a lot off Mexicans that mostly only spoke Spanish. I hated that job. The difference between us is that I know English and I'm documented, so I have more opportunities to get a better job then they have. I was the one to complain working there, they never did. They literally do the jobs no one else wants to do.
Wow, that's a huge damn increase! And he hasn't even DONE anything yet, he's only threatened. Imagine the cost of our food if he actually succeeds at his anti-immigrant policies come to fruition.
The Deep North So you feel that illegals should be allowed to work in the fields for low wages? Dont you care about innovating so that farmers can harvest more and ultimately can afford americans working in agri culture? Thats how we do it in my country, we innovate instead of paying slave wages to illegals.
I am Mexican and worked strawberry fields, prouud to have been a productive stoop laborer, and yes, the toughest part is to feel haunted by the then INS.
I used to be a horse groom for a racetrack in longbranch NJ I've worked beside immigrants and American Workers. I'll tell you one thing I noticed right away... from my experience, the immigrant worker does twice the amount of work that has to be done in a faster amount of time and they are not paid that well to begin with. I've seen it first hand. in any job Ive seen or been too, I take notice.
I love when he said "the engine of this country is immigrant labor." This is so true, and Trump has the hood of the car open and is pulling parts of the engine out with no clue as to how things really work.
im an American & next year im leaving to mexico. im saling my house and take my buisness to mexico. trump better start hiring the KKK OR PECKERWOODS to pick up his food and clean his toilets
9 $ an hour is not fair americans can't live off that. and this lady has never done a hard day of labor in her life try to work 12 hour shift out in the sun. and not be able to pay your bills
Amazing. 10 days of paid leave and 8 paid holidays a year. I have 30 days of paid leave and all of the holidays are paid. And still, our economy is not going broke. And imagine: I do have healthcare insurance and all days of sick leave are paid, too. Well, that's how it's done in Germany.
Sabina Cedillo I SWEAR! It's a damn shame that the main problem is the people that immigrated here have the nerves to tell the ORIGINALS to get out! This isn't whites country!! All other races were even stolen or escaped from their countries, but WICKED WHITES WERE EXILED from THEIRS! And we all see why!
It's stoop labor. Having grown up on a farm in the fifties and sixties I can tell you it is miserable work and especially in the heat of the season. But it was our family farm and having been a kid I had no choice in the matter during harvest season in that it meant my family's survival. What many Americans don't realize that when the crop being harvested is a food stuff the price of groceries will rise precipitously if bringing in the crop is really expensive meaning a strain on the family budget. The large agriculture concerns will harvest the food stuffs somehow and the outlays that will cost will be extracted from the consumer through higher prices. It has been migrant workers coming here to do the work that most Americans of any background refused to do and has meant we've long been able to buy fruits, vegetables and other such commodities at relatively cheap prices and because our farmers are such productive food producers. Be careful what you want it might come back one day to bite you in the ass.
Personally (and living in Mexico) I don't feel comfortable with the 'US needs Mexicans for the farms' line of defense against the wall. Yes it makes economic sense; but we can't keep seeing Mexican poverty as functional. Importing poor people for exploitation is shame and signals deeper problems with the system; even if it is to the benefit of both parties. Maybe we should not buy vegetables at Walmart and pay 2 cents more so this could be a minimum wage job.
Hire unemployed American kids and high schoolers. Teach em a lesson in hard work and the concept of "earning your keep". Maybe the childhood obesity epidemic will go away after a couple of years.
Do you seriously think that the kids of today are willing to this work? It's back breaking work done in over one hundred degree weather, you'll have a bunch of kids in the hospital after two hours. They don't even want to go outside to enjoy a beautiful day, they would rather be inside watching TV or playing video games
How to fix illegal immigration 101. Cut off any and all govt benefits to illegals, local, state and federal. Anyone caught employing illegals goes to prison for 5 yrs with a massive fine per employee. End result, illegals self deport. Cost to the taxpayers $0. Excuse me all to hell if I don't cry crocodile tears for farmers. I've lived and worked around farming all my life, and I can tell you that farmers have tax breaks and deductions and government backups in place that are undreampt of in any other business, plus they make a killing from the H2A visa program, which in my state pays a whopping $13.79 per hour with no benefits. Half the farmers I know have winter vacation homes in Florida and Arizona, so when they start whining about losing the illegals, my response is, I can feel for you but I can't quite reach!
I’ve worked in and out of fields the fields for 35 years when did they start paying by the hour ? I’ve never seen a farmer pay by the hour . They pay by what you pick .
During elections in the US all the farmers have conservative voting signs on the edge of their land. Which way did they vote at the last GE and if they voted Trump didn't they understand the rhetoric was going to convert into policy?
Ben is SO spot on in the end. Illegal immigration is simply NOT a problem in the US. The facts and the studies bear that out, and anyone who thinks it is is at best very misinformed and subject to propaganda.
I think it would be a great learning experience for Trump to go be a migrant worker for a week. Then let us know if HE would take such a job if he were a typical citizen. And, I'd like to see how he would take to the higher prices on produce, or accept a really tight market.
Ok this is the jobs trump promised to give to the forgoten Americans. But he don’t tell to the people’s that was the jos the no body’s wants to do! . Well this how He makes America Great Again. Now we have another three more years to think about?
In Germany we have a law. There are workers from Poland, the come legally for the picking season. The farmer had to provide sleeping accommodation, insurance, fair payment, fair working hours. Some workers came every summer for years. And they are legal.
9 dollars for farm job picking food is not even enough, I work a construction job building walls inside wearhouses and I get paid 13, and that is not even enough...
Your average American isn't gonna hard labor these days… even if you give'em 15 or 18, most won't hack it. You'd have to give them around 20 to stick it out, & they'll still be comparatively slow & inefficient. Remember lol, I'm saying Most Americans, not all.

Whether they're migrant workers or American, they should be paid for their hard work....I realize that these farmers are accustomed to a certain price structure...but, market forces will equalize the system as supply and demand balances the prices of produce and labor...I don't agree with the shaming of those who come here to work hard....they should be given an opportunity...but, they should also be paid for their efforts...
We have the same problem in the UK, which Brexit may exacerbate; our equivalent of Mexicans are Polish workers who are prepared to do similar agricultural jobs that most British people won't do.
I'm not sure I understand your point. I'm not advocating for exploitation, just mentioning to probably US-majority viewers that the UK is similar, and that Brexit may have the same effects on us that Trump's policies are likely to have in the US (removing a vital workforce).
I agree it's awful that they're not paying a living wage, but you're arguing against a point I never made. I'm arguing against short-sighted voters wanting foreigners to be forced to leave the country, without realising that those foreigners are vital for an important part of the economy.

Now I know that we have to protect our citizens against any communicable diseases (read Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" published in 1906 about the meat packing industry in Chicago). But still. That's why cauliflower is $5.99 a head, I guess.
All unemployed Republicans should be the first to be sent to the fields.
The irony is that red states have the most unemployed people.
Then you go hungry .
I heard they are hiring at GM Mexico $3.75/hr
Time to force Trump voters to pick those fruit and vegetables off the field for minimum wage.Gotta have food on the table before its price increase.
Forcing labor? Didn't know we were in the USSR.
Nope not even minimum wage. They get paid by how much they produce, not by the hour.
@Ned Because upholding a non racist law is somehow racist and they don't care about starving Americans that follow the law.
I don't give a damn how much he pay Americans aren't going to pick shit.

I am so proud of my Mexican brothers leaving this angretefull country. We will make Mexico great again not the URS.
The reasons why Americans don't farm anymore:
1. Most Americans no longer live in rural areas.
2. The American educational system no longer revolves around the harvest calendar
3. The American educational system is based in technical & service economy skills
4. Farming has been increasingly taken over by big corporations that pay low wages
Now farming is in jeopardy food in brooklyn will cost double now
Dave chappelle was right. We don't wanna pick our own strawberries

Trump supporters better start getting their apron on and start making America Great Again. Those peaches ain't gonna pick themselves.
Fabrice Izzo Amazing 😂🤣👌
Fabrice Izzo 😂😂😂
Fabrice Izzo grass dont cut itself. america aint gonna look too great with 3 foot tall grass everywhere
+Misty,
It's not about being "denied" access to work.
Sadly, for every job, there is a machine that can take over for a human (with maybe a few exceptions today).
where are Trump voters that wanted the jobs back???
Ami Jackman right here. Im 19 without a job and i wish i could work on a farm
Heinrich Himmler They're all over the nation. Not hard to find.

DK3CHAMP
I wondered why they thought Trump was the way to go too.
I certainly don't think I am smarter than all farmers, but I saw this coming.
Hire white men they said mexicans are taking all the jobs. Help your people out
There will come a time, when the crops will sit on fields and no one will be there to pick. People will go hungry, because of shortage of food in the markets. Prices will skyrocket and only those with lots of money will eat. We can thank our Goverment.
Maro Fontaine watch the movie a day without a mexican

So go get them white ppl who cried browns are taking their jobs.... where they at?
Meli: They are fortunate enough to not be held at a disadvantage. Because they are citizens, they can get jobs that pay more. It's the farmer's own goddamn fault for not compensating his workers.
Renegade Holy Man then why are they crying over the jobs if they don't want them?
millenels will not work hard labor for no price
The hourly wage hasn't gone up enough yet. Self-respecting Americans won't work for peanuts.
Be real people legal citizens won't ever do field jobs
Daysi G. Pay me $50 per hour & I'll do it
Like I said won't ever do them. Be real
$50hr? working in the fields and you want to make that amount? grow up.
Rhyno Souris $50 per hour? 8 hours a day 6 days a week $2400 per week? grow up.
Finally someone with some sense.
Most people don't realize is that there are alot of American citizens that don't want to work and rather live on government funds.
falaalalala lots of people eh? What are their names? Addresses? Ages? When did you meet with them? Hey, guess what I heard about you!
alot them don't want to work on farms , those jobs can kill you. don't be stupid
Family, Friends, Friends of friends, Neighbors.
Chicken butt! Lol.
bullshit RW lies , shut up. You obviously never got SNAP or TANF. No one wants to live on $200/month of food stamps. otherwise you have to be disabled to get more than that. If you apply for disability you will be denied because all first applicions are denied. 2 years later if you have a lawyer then maybe you get approved and get SSID
And some people like their free money.
All the farms have “HELP WANTED” signs now. I hope many haters can go and apply to work there and pickup our crops. If not then lots of food will go to waste and food prices will increase.
My solution is that Trump voters should be drafted to fill the vacant Mexican jobs.
all the people that voted for trump can work on farms
if you doubt there is skill involved just try picking cherries or apples or watermelons for a day or two.
All these Americans want office jobs because there too scared they might break a nail
The farmers don't normally offer benefits is because we don't want to pay more for our fruit and vegetables.
Also, most tempi or seasonal jobs in any field of work don't receive benefits.
You can pay Americans $50 an hour and they would still quit farming and produce picking jobs!
Neuatl Nimexika Thank you !!
I'm in for that money. LOL

Wait until everyone pays $5 a piece for a tomato

I guess Mexicans must be tough people to work so hard for so little.

Now is plenty of jobs for americans and stop crying about illegals take their jobs😂😂😂😂
Make it mandatory for people who collect welfare to work the fields to earn their money.
SLICK Welfare comes in many forms, so their would be alot of white people in those fields, more than any other group.
Derwin , I don’t care what race, color or creed is doing the work. All I’m saying is that if the majority of your money is from public assistance (welfare) than you should have to work for your money just like the rest of us.

But the numbers don’t lie and go look how much other world leaders love him. Our military loves him dearly. They hated Obama. We are a military family. Trump can say what the f*** ever he wants too. What part of illegal is misunderstood here. Legal work visas, that's the answer.

I remember reading an article in the farm journal about farmers hiring, say a hundred americans to pick fruit or something and when they would go to pick them up most of them didn,t even show up. Americans get used to easy living so farmers need to hire immigrants who are used to hard work.

68 cents is so low that even if we instituted slavery, it couldn't get any lower.

daniela mayorga they tried that years ago and even saved money by not paying the workers? It was called slavery? DICK.
Jose Lopez when did I ever elude to having our wounded warriors work the fields you idiot?!
Maybe we should not buy vegetables at Walmart and pay 2 cents more so this could be a minimum wage job.
its okay, Trump's voters will fill the void, Americans will be happy with increasing costs of living.

Maybe, just maybe some farmers/farms have to do so to entice people to work for them.
Illegal immigration has always been a problem in America, just ask the Indians...
During elections in the US all the farmers have conservative voting signs on the edge of their land. Which way did they vote at the last GE and if they voted Trump didn't they understand the rhetoric was going to convert into policy?
yep I work on a farm in Washington state and those signs are everywhere. my company hat has Trump stitched in the back of it.
Ben is SO spot on in the end. Illegal immigration is simply NOT a problem in the US. The facts and the studies bear that out, and anyone who thinks it is is at best very misinformed and subject to propaganda.
It's the same in the UK. Not sure who will be working in the rural areas post Brexit because the Brits aren't keen to take up those jobs.
Jan Brewer, governor of Arizona, says we need to use our unemployed people to agricultural jobs! It didn't work out! Our people simply sucked!
Hardeep Singh , The monetary exchange rate is 19 to 1 . Pay brown people in pesos & see how long they stick around !!
America was built with their foot on the poor peoples throat, that has never changed or will. all you have to do is read a history book.
A. M. Horseshit America is industrious smart innovative and great. All that is bad is Anti American democrats and liberals.
always someones else's fault, i always forget they never taught history in america, thats the american way!!
BULLSHIT! AMERICA WAS BUILT ON THE BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS OF IMMIGRANTS - AND THE TRANSATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE YOU PIECE OF SHIT!
oh, that hurts half wit. like everyone else here, i too am laughing at you and your ignorance. thanks for the laughs!
just like you did dummy! jesus you are stupid, but hey lets some fun!
But that's common sense, it doesn't belong in 'Murica.
9 dollars for farm job picking food is not even enough, I work a construction job building walls inside wearhouses and I get paid 13, and that is not even enough...
Nelson Di Salvatore I feel you bruh.
Nelson Di Salvatore I got a stocking job for 13 an hour not enough as well.
Your average American isn't gonna hard labor these days… even if you give'em 15 or 18, most won't hack it.
You'd have to give them around 20 to stick it out, & they'll still be comparatively slow & inefficient.
Remember lol, I'm saying Most Americans, not all.
We are not talking about Hispanics , Mexicans or Indians. We are talking about ILLEGALS
Prepare to pay 6.00 per an apple...!
Ah, now you dont want a 15 usd minimum wage?
Put an end to all welfare programs and these farmers will have all the workers they need
Bye bye farmers soon their all died out. Say hello to foreign countries food. The other countries with have their farming business booming.
Because in reality american wouldn't take the illegal spot on those farmers jobs. 😂Don't complain about anything when you're food prices go threw the roof. 😂
I live in a border town with Mexico and it has never been an issue !! Actually our city of El Paso, in Tx. Has been voted one of the safest cities multiple times .. Many Americans also cross the borders into Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua obtain more economical medical , dental, and optical care on a frequent basis.. Many cross the border to go shopping or simply to go eat .. A wall is unnecessary..
Immigration has also been down the past few years. It baffles me how people act like it's a damn flood, when that flood happened generations ago.
Sergio Ruelas two generations to be precise.
I still can't agree to hire anyone without documents but we should allow for a seasonal immigration program to bring people in, work, and then return home.
JBryant Concierge I second this motion
guess walmart shoppers gonna have to go to the farm and pick their own damn peaches
Joe Smith hahahahahahahaha
they take jobs but now you need them
Amigos i don’t know how much longer y’all going to be living with this mentality
You know companies or farmers do not hire hispanos to pay them minimum wages or even less they hire hispanos because we do things better as a matter of fact I’m a roofer myself and guess what I make more money than a lot American people out there I mean I see Americans working at gas stations fast food places you know cashiers every where working for 10 dollars or even less you know what amigos let’s forget about all this BS Jobs aren’t about colors or nationality’s jobs are about skills
Excuse my writing I just got here 5 months ago I’m still learning
Adiós love you all
Whether they're migrant workers or American, they should be paid for their hard work....I realize that these farmers are accustomed to a certain price structure...but, market forces will equalize the system as supply and demand balances the prices of produce and labor...I don't agree with the shaming of those who come here to work hard....they should be given an opportunity...but, they should also be paid for their efforts...
I'm sure most of these farmers voted for him
Americans don't want these jobs, farming is backbreaking work.
We have the same problem in the UK, which Brexit may exacerbate; our equivalent of Mexicans are Polish workers who are prepared to do similar agricultural jobs that most British people won't do.
don't care , illegals should not be exploited by cheap labor.
I'm not sure I understand your point. I'm not advocating for exploitation, just mentioning to probably US-majority viewers that the UK is similar, and that Brexit may have the same effects on us that Trump's policies are likely to have in the US (removing a vital workforce).
Chris Bell point is he doesn't pay them a living wage, maybe I should cry for the slave owners
I agree it's awful that they're not paying a living wage, but you're arguing against a point I never made. I'm arguing against short-sighted voters wanting foreigners to be forced to leave the country, without realising that those foreigners are vital for an important part of the economy.
Chris Bell my point is farmers should pay more and stop relying on slave labor. Illegals should be gone.
Too bad for you farmer Joe! Maybe if you paid Americans a fair wage you'd have workers!
Zachary Murley maybe Americans won't do it for any wages. Xbox, porn, beer, drugs party.
Jake Garza look at our country its obviously is better then yours but thats why all you want to be here americans built America and you guys want what we have and cry when we wint let you guys destroy our great country
they always were too LAZY to work their own fields, make their own food, or clean up after themselves.
No trump didn't scare your workers, you all did you all voted for him, deal with it
