ahh okay I see
It’s more like “we’ll make sure all the experimental terrible art gets out but we’re still looking at it”
Since they said "we will continue to explore how we can use it to improve the experiences we offer" it could mean they probably won't continue to use generative AI for art in any official capacity but will probably use it for other things such as chatbots for customer service or help finding parts

Literally, there is so many weird Kai related images you could use for all these questions. I mean there is quite litterally like 15 years worth of show content

Unless this is all just Lego's plan to make everyone hate Ninjago so they can end it and replace it with something new or some other conspiracy theory.
But this only makes sense cause they didn't decide to use show images.

Already said this in these comments, but you can't expect a company to not use the cheapest way possible to success. The goverment should regulate companies, companies should only make money and follow regulations, not society's current morals, which change every few years anyway.

What the heck?
Yeah what the actual frick
They used chat gpt for the statement?
Using AI and Using AI to generate content are two separate things, son.
it's nice that you trusted companies until now, it's sadly all empty words said in hopes to generate as much profit as possible, they say anything that gets them more
I dislike ai art as much as anyone else, but I think at the end of their statement, there’s still opportunity to use it to benefit (generating ideas and then having real artists take that and make it their own? Idk entirely)
This goes against everything Lego stands for
Edit: There's a lot of ignorance in these replies so I just wanted to clarify a few things:
Lego has built its brand around core values such as creativity, imagination, learning, and play. These values are not just marketing slogans but are deeply ingrained in the company's culture and the experiences it aims to provide to children and adults alike. Lego sets encourage open-ended play, allowing builders to express their creativity, problem-solving skills, and imagination in endless ways.Human creativity lies at the heart of Lego's appeal. Whether it's the initial design of Lego sets, the creations built by individuals, or the collaborative efforts of communities, human ingenuity and expression are central to the Lego experience. Lego sets are often designed by artists who bring their unique perspectives, inspirations, and insights into the creative process, resulting in sets that resonate with audiences on an emotional level.
Using AI to replace artists may be perceived as a departure from Lego's values of fostering creativity, play, and learning. It may signal a shift towards prioritizing efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and automation over human-centered design principles. This could potentially erode trust and goodwill among Lego's customer base, who value the company's commitment to fostering creativity and imagination in children and adults alike.
Entirely true. Using generative artificial intelligence software is literally the bane of creativity.
Half of what lego has done in the last 5 years goes against everything lego stands for. Not just the creativity part
Their slogen used to be "only the best is good enough" now it seems they changed it to "eh, only good enough"
@@_Pikalika_that is accurate and funny.
Oleg Hans Christiansen would not be happy at the current state of the quality control of his company, him and his son always ensured that the Lego company kept to the highest standards and if anything was wrong with one of their products they would replace it for you for free. Modern Lego with supervisible mold marks, not being able to print white on a colored piece, scratched windshields and now AI art That doesn't represent the actual product being advertised would have made him so mad.

As if anyone hasn't noticed, the lego's for kids page is filled with trash and shovelware. Back in the day when lego made flash games, they were really fun and enjoyable, but the current lego games are so lazily done, and especially that lego used ai for kids page means one thing- Lego doesn't give a brick about kids anymore, they just want that dough coming from adults
have you considered that back in the day you had lower standards because you were a kid
@@jmc042nah, the games genuinely were way better
@@jmc042 Hello, old time LEGO fan here - I was probably playing games on the old LEGO website before you were even born.
In the early 2000's, LEGO made some amazing things to promote sets and add lore (keep in mind that shows like Ninjago didn't even exist yet). For BIONICLE alone you had the Mata Nui Online Games, which used simple flash graphics to tell an entire side of the BIONICLE story in a unique way through a slow mystery with scheduled game updates. For general LEGO lines, you had creative games like Junkbot, Junkbot Undercover, World Builder, DREAMZ (not the theme, the old strategy game), BELTZ, and others. So many themes got at least one solid flash-style game all the way up until the 2010's and beyond. A single-year robotics line called Spybotics got a whole puzzle strategy hacking game called Spybot: The Nightfall Incident that still holds up to this day - and for a theme that failed financially, it was some genius game design.
So no, we did not have low standards. LEGO set high standards, we recognized that, and we loved it. Didn't even need AI to make LEGO Mars Mission: Crystalien Conflict such a banger.
Yeah, I used to play some of the games, but these days they’re just trash or just blatant copies of other existing games.
Ok, I forgot to specify.
Back in the day EVEN lego flash games were really fun
I would not be surprised if the questions themselves are ai generated
I'm sure they are. The fixation on Kai basically proves it. When asked for a list of multiple items, like questions for a quiz, AI will often have as little distinction between items as possible. You can quickly pick up on the patterns, it's incredibly lazy. It would also explain the grammar and logic issues with some of the questions.
Bro it feels like it😔
Exactly, its clearly aimed at. “Did Kai ever use the water element?” Like be fr.
From the looks of it the questions were made with ai, the art was made with ai, and even the statement they released was made with ai.

There is actually an update to this situation: Tommy Andreason, original creator of ninjago and current showrunner for dreamzzz actually said that he will be filing a formal complaint about the use of AI. Given his status, I imagine his complaint won’t be taken lightly.

The fact that Ai is continuously being used despite all the controversies and scandals it’s been in is just baffling
It’s not as surprising as it is disappointing. It’s a cheap and efficient alternative to hiring real people doing actual art even though the art usually looks worse and looses a lot of its meaning since there was no human intention behind the creation of it. I’m extra disappointed in this case though since it was Lego, a company whose image and products are supposed to be centered around creativity, who did it.

A.I art goes directly against Ole Kirk Christensen's philosophy of "only the best quality is good enough" and working with ones' hands.
they did not bother to check it or try to generate something better
So many people show me AI LEGO models and ask me where they can get it. Purses, cars, animals… and it’s so obvious if you take a second to look closer or just read the box.
And if they were familiar with LEGO, they would recognize that this is not how LEGO photographs their sets. They look more like off-brand kits.
My mom showed me a photo of ai lego cats 💀
kai got a bakery tho what 1:36
also they definitely used ai for the questions too, that's why it's only kai
And their response was likely ai generated.
Remember when Lego's guiding philosophy was "Only the best is good enough"?
It seems that every company's motto is "sell, sell, SELL, no matter how many times we screw up, our bottom line is more important".
Now it is “work until it looks semi-decent”
they charge you 0.25$ for a single piece of plastic yet they wont pay an actual artist to do artowrk with no easily remarkable mistakes 💀💀
Even after the wilywonka expirience they have not learned that you can not use ai to replace artists
You’d think that would be a teaching point. But despite the fact the Wonka fiasco went viral, somehow nobody at Lego heard about it or tried to learn from it.
They can and they will. AI is barely in its infancy, it's like someone in the age of dial-up saying that streaming movies is impossible
The difference is that AI generated content isn't worth pursuing no matter how advanced it gets because it's inherently a mixture of content theft and undercutting your own creative departments.
Streaming CAN be good, but is often ruined by the fact that its the only way to experience something, alongside being locked behind a monthly subscription.
false equivalence. The willywonka experience was straight-up scam. The same thing would had happened if they use human artists.
@@joshslater2426 Did it go viral? I've heard passing reference to it, and not much more.
With how targeted the net is at this point, I didn't know "viral" was still a phenomenon that happened to anything but meme templates.

The saddest thing to me is that it totally makes sense that Lego would do something like this. Their actions in recent years have proven that their main goal is to increase profits in any way possible, even if that comes at the harm of the communities that surround them. This is just another way for then to cut costs, and it's sad that they keep stooping lower and lower in their methods of doing so. Hoping the public outcry is enough to scare then off trying stuff like this again.
switching to paper bags and the more recycleable plastic costs more, so it isnt 100% profit
It’s called capitalism. Profits ALWAYS take priority over people in capitalism.
As awesome as that would be, the public outcry is not gonna do much, i fear, they'll just let it go quiet over the course of a couple months and then nobody will even remember this happened
They will literally do nothing about it. They don't care. It makes them more money so they will not stop. End of story
3:44 the machine got confused and thought they asked for dragon ball 💀
Lego is cheap, I talked to their art department years ago and they were super cheap then and I lost interest in pursuing to work for them. I also think they must be pushing the black boxes and white instruction booklets to save on the art department. They are the number one toy company in the world, and in their own words selling an “art medium” making their toys a work of art while underpaying and choosing to limit their spend on art. They need to do better as a leader in the toy and art community to respect the craft and the people who do it and aspire to do it.
By super cheap you mean they don't pay their artists enough? Or are they choosing to hire less artists?
@@bluebrickmax Both
This makes sense. I've always thought the switch to black boxes gave us lazy dull boxes that required almost no effort. You look at older sets like The Simpsons sets or older Icons sets or Creator Expert sets like the modulars or vehicles and they have great box art that clearly took time and effort to make. It makes the set pop because it's placed in a location that feels right like a cartoon town or among other buildings or at the beach or whatever. Now it's like just slap the set on a boring black box and the job is done. They definitely save money by doing this and I feel like their cheapness and laziness might have affected the sales of some sets like Winnie the Pooh and Sesame Street by not being appealing to kids or parents

think for a minute of what you're encouraging. AI could never accomplish the creativity that's inherent in the very concept of LEGO. And it's not like the people in charge who only care about profits would wait for that. They would only care about the costs they can cut by replacing real set designers with AI.

Them basically saying "we're going to try and further explore the possibilities of AI" is saying two things.
1: this isn't going to be the last time we see ai and Lego in the same sentence, whether it will be more obvious next time, nobody knows.
2: it was a sort of cheeky explanation of why the heck they were using it in the first place, and why these images were ever invented.
I think it's a good thing people are calling this out, so that way they know don't try to do this (or at least don't ever make it look this bad) again.

Their statement on AI is really telling the last year. We know for sure they probably would have said that they're never going to use AI, but they've basically said that they're going to keep doing it and just make sure it's not noticeable to us. It's unfortunate too because AI is only going to get better and right now we can easily point at the fingers and other irregularities. But soon it's just going to get so good that it's going to be hard for people to call them out on it
That's a really sad Reality, i wish there were Laws to Properly Regulate these things so they don't Replace People giving people a Future to actually do some fun stuff like this instead of Sitting in an Office Cubicle for the Rest of their lives, but i guess with another Half like these People Accepting and Embracing AI, i don't see that happening.
I wish it was just a Fad like NFT's but i doubt its going to that Route, and the 100% AI Generated Stuff already show how bad things could become. (i would Say the Willy Wonka Experience from the UK as an example but i think that's a whole different can of worms) its a sad and Inevitable Reality that's coming, and unless they do stuff to Regulate it hard right now, were going to see a Dip in Quality and Content for the Rest of Humanity's life
This is a doomer's mindset. The only place we've seen Lego use ai at this point is here on a random web quiz for kids. Not saying that's OK in a vacuum, but it's way better than it being on their actual products.
Plus, lego's response was very much written like ai would only ever be used behind the scenes, which I'd argue is *far* less of an issue that only really stems from the issues of AI as a technology. Stolen art to feed its algorithms and such.

The worst part about using AI now is that they have gotten into the Laziness Bandwagon at the worst time possible. These things have saturated the internet so much to the point they’re starting to inbreed.

I have a prediction that Lego will get controversy in the next year or two where they approve a Lego ideas set that’s AI generated
It's amazing how a company that's supposed to represent creativity can backstab it's own customers.
Creativity died long long time ago.
Lego is now only about License stuff. :/
it backstabbed creativity ever since Ninjago was revived at the cost of Chima dying. and milking it with Ninjago Dragon Rising
LEGO: Hm, yes! Let's change our minifigure bags to boxes and turn it into nothing but gambling for children
Also LEGO: Hm, yes! Let's use AI.
I’m really mad about the box thing. There used to be a way to guess what figure you were getting so you could spend wisely. Thanks to these stupid boxes I still haven’t gotten the Ice Bro from the Mario character packs.
Wouldn't it be easier to just use photos of sets, cartoons or just the movie?
This actually breaks my heart, I love Ninjago so much and to see what I thought was a company about creativity do this, is just completely disrespectful to the show, the fans, and the property. This is by far the biggest F U Lego has ever done to the people that give it money. Truly awful.
It's not even good, it looks so bad. We need to punish companies who use AI, especially companies that espouse creativity then go and steal from real artists like this.
honestly it would be ok if they used Very Little to No AI, i would be Ok with that since it wouldn't be Replacing people who are in the 2D and 3D art industry, but considering its evolving, I'm sadly seeing a future where nobody is going to get a Job as an Animator or a Design Artist because of these things, its a Sad reality for the 21st Century now
I completely agree with you here at 7:12. AI does have some potential to help out conceptualize pitches for products, but it should never be used just to replace artists for the final product. Also, I like what you say at 2:25. Forget the fact that it’s AI generated, It’s just a cool character design & I really like it.
Is it just me or do the questions in the quiz themselves sound like they were generated from ChatGPT?
That statement was pretty transparent, they just wanted to know if they could get away with it. Now they will just use ai whenever the fans can't notice that it's happening.
I wish they realized how impactful art really is. It opens opportunities, like imagine if instead they reached out to the community and chose to showcase fan art. It would mean so much to so many people.
When even the show runners complain about this on Twitter it says something
1:45 my boy is caked up
So much for the company that represents “creativity”!
Considering how low lego has stooped in recent years it doesn't surprise me they would pull something like this eventually
Not to defend Lego since it seems like they're really dropping the ball on QC, but there's been instances in the recent past of people hiring artists to make art and then the people hired use AI and the people who hired them can't tell/don't notice, then they get called out and go, "I am so sorry, I had no idea, I didn't look closely at it, I won't hire that person again" and stuff like that. Could be a case of Lego hiring someone who cut corners to make a quick buck with a big company.
The funny part is that LEGOs motto and purpose is to encourage creativity.
If Lego continues using AI crap, I will stop buying their products, COMPLETELY.
I thought that new female ninja was Wyldstyle from the Lego movie
“You promised these children original stuff, but all I saw was…Cheapy the Cheapskate!”
Everyone talking about it being uncreative, but I’m still annoyed that the AI is just making everything up. Nothing about it is Ninjago, Lloyd never turned into a maniacal chef.

I agree for me I think ai is ok for so to help you sometimes, but it should not do it all for you.
AI has been evil from the very start, it's not just the people that use it bad, it's fed on stolen material and -cp-
AI is malicious by design.
This is a bit like saying nazi gas chambers weren't evil, it was the people who used them
Imagine charging $100+ for branded plastic and not putting in the effort to draw some pictures. Bruh.
Apricate the Curb Your Enthusiasm in the background.
3:37 Methinks the AI's been lookin' at too much greenflame
Truly disgusting. I’m wondering if the entire quiz was AI generated and they were trying to see if ai could make fun website content and they could focus their human energies on more design. But lego embracing generative ai imagery at all is not a fun concept.
Imagine somebody winning the lego ideas process with ai generated set models??
But at the end of the day my biggest problem with ai art is it’s built on stolen assets. Lego could realistically get sued by Shonen Jump for confusing the Ninjago brand with Naruto. And it’s all the fault of a generative ai prompt with no editing or oversight.
Like you said lego should already have all the assets they need to make promo stuff like this. There’s no reason to create original art pieces for something as trivial as a online quiz.
Oh boo hoo LMAO. 😂😂😂
@@Key-Knight87 thanks for contributing. I’ll keep your comments in mind when I make future comments 👍 you did a good job today.
2:30 you can literally see a headband with the NARUTO leaf village symbol.
Which shouldn’t touch Lego without a license.
This at most means the ai was fed Lego, and Naruto content. And maybe more since some do have semi comic book styles with the action pictures. Without consent from artists
I feel like an upper management person was given a budget to get simple art, and just used ai to just not do their job. Like how hard was it to just build Lego using your master builders or using the actual show.
They most likely used word Ninja, so as we know Naruto pretty popular around the world, and ai bot mixed it with Lego Ninjago
Was the quiz itself AI generated as well?
Seems like it. The questions are very simple, and the thing about “What would Kai like to do besides being a ninja?” sounds really weird since I don’t think that has ever been mentioned.
This stuff is fun for people to mess around with, MAYBE for startup companies/indie developers to use before to cut costs. Not a good look for a billion $ company
"We won't use AI but this was a test." Why would you do a test if you won't use AI? I think they meant this was a test to see if we noticed. I feel like we're close to getting AI box art. They've already gone the lazy route of black boxes for all adult sets so they don't need to put effort into making box art. They're just waiting for AI to get better so they can have it make the box art for future sets.
Maybe we should like, ban AI? Or at least regularize It. Even photography have regulations after all
I can’t believe my childhood toys were in ruins because of ai
Lego, the most creative company ever that’s now using the most uncreative and evil method of creating art. Truly a soulless corporate moment.
Ninjago is already soulless. sugar-coated cultural stereotypes.
Remember when designs were printed on Lego pieces instead of providing flimsy stickers?
WTF? Ai has problems with hands but also LEGO minifigure hands? - Besides, LEGO is the biggest toy manufacturer in the world, raking in Billions and they can't be bothered to hire an actual artist. Seriously?
I'd like to clarify that AI "art" is not art at all. There's no passion being put into it, and no skill required at all. The correct term would be an image or picture. Only living beings are capable of creating true art.
Finally, somebody else said it!
Wrangling the jank into making something decent is a skill.
It's not nearly as hard as actually learning art, but if you think those models obey you without knowing a little code, you'd be very wrong.
I remember how in The lego story, it was mentioned that Godfrey got punished for cutting corners when Lego made wooden toys. History repeats himself
2:50 They look like kids of Kai, especially since he is in the background!
I don't even remotely care about Ninjago but that female ninja at 2:34 would be an awesome minifigure.
Agreed
my fear of companies using mostly/fully using ai for monetary purposes is becoming more and more real at this point
It's not that. They also used Ai Voice for LEGO Ad's. I know one of them, They used it on a Prison escape set.
To be honest, I think artificial intelligence should be completely banned worldwide.
In all honesty, I think it should be banned. It might have some positive effects, but ultimately all it does is act as a cheap substitute for artistry and effort. The world would be a better place if we weren’t trying to get AI to make everything for us.
True, for single thing that AI does right, there's a 100 more that it does wrong.
Not necessarily banned, but at least require a watermark to show its made by an AI.
@@dragondelsur5156 yeah maybe it's only useful for medical purposes, but nothing more
@@lego0008 agreed also AI useb by many sosial media, search engine, gps and manya more
This just baffles me. They gotta tighten up their review processes.
AI can be used in great ways that are fine, but when a company uses them like this... yeah definitely a wrong way
There are things that A.I can be used, but there're also things that A.I can't be used.
about great ways AI can be used in: do background images count? like the ones for visual novels. the thing is i actually am bad at drawing BGs, so i use AI. i can draw characters, some props the characters would interact with, but not the goddayum backgrounds.
4:41
"obsession with kai"
i... i think that's the theme, ash
The AI thinks the LEGO hips are some sort of codpiece, look at that *girth*
Im calling it, every company will use AI and once they realize no one cares they will all drop it or abandon it like NFTS
This SCREAMS outsourced project. It seems so much like they wanted to add some quick and easy content to the website and outsourced it to some company that makes this kind of thing. Alternatively it could have been an intern or new-employee project type situation, where they tasked a 'simple' job to someone new and they got lazy. The AI art, the non-canon elements, the grammatical errors, the fact its all about Kai, it all just reeks of outsourced or just handed off to an intern then not properly approved.
Profit rate goes brrrt
As an artist, who actually got to paint for Ninjago, this is sickening to me.
Cool, what images did you create. I love ninjago, it’s my childhood so I’m intrigued
@@thebrickbros.1294 Box art for the "Crystalized" season. Nya's mech, Crystal Palace and the Golden Dragon were my main projects and I contributed to all the rest. It was team work.
@@AnthonyAvon that sounds awesome. You are very talented
Cool. Your art will have had ten times the effort put into it than anything AI can ever make.

seems like that water's having a bad time
The fact a company can sell plastic at the price they do. Then instead of paying actual artist which they can afford, they do this instead. Like this is a job that was taken away from someone else because what "kids won't notice". It's such a scummy mindset to have. We wont use AI but we will use AI, whattttt?
It's also worth noting that one of the companies Lego contracts for advertising, Copenhagen Rig also uses AI for their stuff. It's really insane especially once you realize that CR was started by Christian Faber, one of the concept artists behind BIONICLE.
Is that a count dooku saber kai's holding???
looking at ai images just gives me this weird feeling… ugh I hate it so much.
The thing that makes me mad about AI art is that AI and other advanced technologies should be used to do mundane soul crushing work that nobody enjoys, so that humans are able to work on stuff they like to do, such as creating art. So why on earth did we decide that AI should replace artists and writers of all professions? It’s just ridiculous.
No AI Art! Pay a real person. This is a ploy to make more money and not a commitment to the art-form.
There was no art here that needed to be created in the first place
