    Thank you! I’ve had hip/low back pain for so many years and went to a number of drs, speciality drs, orthopedic drs and pain clinics and none of them even offered to look at the evenness of my hips! This s my problem and has been all the time. Why no doctors look for this problem is beyond comprehension because I can bet many people suffer from this too. Thank you for trying to help those of us that suffer from this!

      You gotta remember that in today's society, Dr.'s are taught to basically just give patients drugs instead of fixing a problem. The more our disgrace society goes on, Dr.'s will become less and less Dr.'s and become just prescribe-rs of drugs

    I went to a chiro twice for this exact issue. On my last visit I asked as I was leaving if there was anything in my life that I could be doing that might be aggravating this. His reply was that there were "So many things it could be, we don't have time to go through all your activities." NEVER going back.
    IF you don't have time for me, I would rather have months of pain than put another dollar in your pocket. Thank you for this video. I will try these stretches out.

      Did you have 2-3 hours to go through everything properly? More importantly did you want to pay for his time to do it thoroughly? These things are not black and white, even if many of thse youtube video's present them that way. There are some patterns, but if you knew that your pelvic imbalances can be an effect of an anteriorly displaced talus bone in your foot, to a rotation at the thoraco-lumbar junction, to a rotation at the atlanto axial joint, and so forth, then you can't expect a simple fix in even a 30 minute solution. Many times a practitioner can put the pelvis back into alignment with a variety of techniques, one of which is muscle energy technique, or even a stretch specific to those shown in this video, only to see it undone again. That's when the therapist needs to look up or down the chain. It doesnt happen in one session. Your problem could be a result of many years of dysfunction and only recently the dysfunction turned into an issue in the tissues that were overloaded and started to break down. Expecting a miracle response in 2 sessions is a pipe dream. Clients like you are just as frustrating as practitioners who don't have reasonable amount of time to explain things, but what your chiropractor told you was not unreasonable at all.

      Hi M.B. I whole-heartedly agree with your explanation. I have been a manual therapist myself for many years and so many people come with a physical problem and want to be fixed, sometimes just in one session. There can be so many different reasons for the pain like emotional, psychological, or spiritual.

    • @dbag57
      @dbag57 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Key thing is, you asked as you were leaving. I assume you had paid for an hour of their time? If you had asked nearer the beginning of the session they might have had more time.

      Sorry to hear that, find another one theres plenty :) ! This video just hit me right in the face. I have always leaned on my left elbow while sitting at work the PC at home AND like an idiot, i always had my wallet in my right back pocket while seated. Years of this led to a higher right hip. Thought it was leg length discrepancy for ages until it was dismissed by my physio when he actually lay me down and measured from top of femur to heel, both legs the same length.
      I obviously caused structural change from years of having the right side raised by my wallet(s) and me leaning on the left side. !

    This is awesome. Have yet to try the stretches but every single piece of information regarding the anatomy, causes, and symptoms is spot on with my situation (lower shoulder on the same side, side sleeping, etc.). I appreciate you creating a narrative for me to understand something that I've been dealing with for years, being consistently told by 2 physical therapists, an orthopedist, an exercise scientist, and yoga instructors that I have IT Band Syndrome and simply need to foam roll, stretch, and do a million hip abductors - all to extremely transient relief and no long-term progress whatsoever. Again, thanks for this.

  • @johnnnewmex
    @johnnnewmex 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good suggestions. I like how you stayed practical without getting too technical. I have scoliosis and have always had pelvic asymmetry. I've had physicians, chiropractors, physical therapist, insole makers, and others point it out and all have various opinions about 'fixing' the problem. Personally I think instead of fixing such issues, it is better to just be aware of them and work stretches/exercises to minimize the negative impact they have. It can get frustrating for a person to hear they need to be 'fixed' or to spend a lot of money trying to fix the problem and not get results. Physical therapist that have good neuro-muscular training usually have a pretty realistic view of these issues and how to best address them.

    This is a great vid. Been dealing with back pain for about 2-3 years, a few months ago chiropractor told me I have a pelvic tilt causing one leg to be shorter than the other (did the rough eyeball test from this vid and we're talking like an inch difference). After 5 min of doing these stretches, my hips are basically even and 90% of my pain is gone. Wish I found this video earlier.

    Thanks for this. It blows my mind the amount of quality information and advice available for free on youtube. I have lateral pelvic tilt, and it's been severely limiting my running for about 9 months. I saw an osteo who explained that my upper leg muscles were very tight from all the mileage I do, but my glutes weren't strong enough to keep up. Recently I've been intensely focusing on glute-strengthening exercises, but the tricky part for me is prevention. There's so many areas of my life that could be the cause, like side-sleeping, posture, work, computer use etc. It's really hard to isolate where I'm doing the damage.

    I had 4 surgeries on my right hip (sports injuries) which left me favoring that side and constantly leaning to my left for a decade. I believe this is why I notice my right side hiked up and is still contributing to much of my chronic pain still left in the area. Gonna try these stretches out. My left side is always tight. I've thought about putting an insert in my left shoe so I'm taller on the left side while standing and walking causing me to fall more to my right and hopefully evening out my pelvis. Probably not good for the spine tho so I'll try these first. Thank you for the video!

    Thanks! I've been NASM certified in the past and they talk of "asymmetrical weight shift" but they don't specify/define when they say "same side as shift". But in this video, you show that the shifted side is the side with the "higher" hip. Much thanks! I've also been trigger pointing my biceps femoris on the lower side.

    Just a correction. High hip side normally has a longer leg because of forward rotation of the pelvis
    P.S: I don't have an anterior or posterior pelvic tilt. I have a lateral pelvic tilt to right with my right hip higher and rotated forward making my right leg longer than the left.

    • @KevinSmith-qt4hz
      @KevinSmith-qt4hz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Not if it's a pelvic issue. The legs will be the same size, however, the pelvis will be tilted and the muscles and tendons will be elongated.

    • @m.b.9474
      @m.b.9474 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Kevin, he (Ashar) even said "forward rotation of the pelvis" which is an anterior rotation and yes that will make that side higher, and the leg longer. It will cause some muscles on one side longer and the other side (of the frontal plane) shorter. Think of the body in 3d

      Azhar is correct because my high side is my right and my right leg is longer..... but remember my right hip is high and rotated forward a bit which makes that leg longer.... if the whole hip is up then that side would be shorter.... crazy stuff

    Omg! This video is so helpful! I am a side sleeper and i have a job where i perform the same tilting forward of the whole body everyday. And i do it normally on one side. Same with driving.. because it already affected my back i always sit on one of the sides that's not hurting. I started going to the gym but i will definitely try these exercises. It is such a detailed description! I've been having severe back for the last 2 years because i apparently was doing things wrong. Also my job implies standing long periods of time where my feet start hurting so i have to lean on one side. Normally i do it on the same side. Thank you very much for this video!

    Oh my god! I have been struggling with this issue for twenty years through multiple therapists of various types and not once, not ONCE, did anyone ever suggest the cause might be side sleeping. I've side slept on one side my entire life! I could never understand why even when I made progress correcting this problem it would always reset. Hoping this might be the answer! Sorry for all the exclamation marks, but this info might be huge for me.
    My whole left leg feels compressed from twenty years of this pelvic tilt, hiked up on the right side. Do you think that is just the glute or does this sometimes effect the other leg muscles on the lower side too?
    Thank you so much. I'll report back, because this issue has pushed me out of every physical activity I ever loved for most of my life, so if changing my sleeping position is the answer after all these years I'll be sending you some type of gift!

    Good test. Right side is elevated. I am 68, and I just had a total right hip replacement. My left was replaced over 4 years ago. I've been doing PT but emphasizing hip strength, and I've been so stiff and fatigued. I've also been struggling with left foot pain and perhaps the uneven pelvis is the source. I love surfing and stand up paddling, so I need to loosen up. Lord I am stiff, but the stretching seems to help. Very good video.

    Thank you so much for this clear explanation. I have developed a big hip difference and was prescribed by a podiatrist some orthopedic inserts. I have been using these inserts for 6 months and discovered that my pelvic unevenness has gotten worse. I see the shortness of the muscles that you described in the video. It is visible and looks like a severe deformation. But after hearing that the muscles shorten and tighten... I feel relieved knowing that I can correct it with stretching. Thank you.

      You may be waking up due to a constricted airway. Do you snore? If so you could benefit from a sleep study and possibly a CPAP machine. My wife's a nurse and she has seen huge benefits for patients using these devices, if warranted.

    Seriously, thank you! This made so much sense, and actually gave me some hope back (pun not intended) that there are things I can do to fix the back pain I've had for years. I've had physiotherapists saying I have one leg shorter that the other, others saying I must have been in an accident as a kid that tilted my hip etc.
    But when you talk about sleeping habits, which I've been suspecting is part of the problem, I kinda know that's it, and it makes a lot of sense the way you explain it. So thank's a lot for this video and a great channel! :D

    I have an extreme lateral pelvic tilt (with a forward twist), and thanks to you I will no longer be sleeping on my sides. Also, thanks to you, I purchased, "Becoming A Supple Leopard, 2nd edition". I'm working hard to achieve the 12 running standards: I still can't do a pistol squat, I'm trying to straighten my feet at 'rest', I own nothing but flat shoes (score!), I can brace, and I can air squat. For many years I could not throw my leg over a bicycle frame, yesterday I went for a 3 mile ride with minimal issues.

    i seem to be experiencing some type of muscle and joint condition, but no tests have confirmed anything. for the last 4-5 yrs i've been dealing with extremely tight lower back, hip and leg muscles. I went from being very active to barely being able to move to sometimes i have strength, mobility and some flexibility one day and then suddenly it's gone and then i have terrible stiffness and pain in my back, side, hip joint and legs. although i experience the stiffness and limited range of motion in both legs and hips. most of the pain seems to be on the right side from the middle back kidney area, lower back, abdominal unexplained (spasms/cramps) from time to time, hip, knee and ankle. I've changed my diet and have become vegetarian for the most part eating chckn n fish once in a while. my joints, muscles and tendons just seem like they're dry-rotted. my elasticity just suddenly disappeared and now they feel dry and cracking all the time. even my spine from time to time would just get stiff and crunchy feeling like sand is in my joints. my muscles are constantly burning and fatigued even when i'm not working out. I started improving two yrs ago, but suddenly it started again and i can't seem to figure it out. Any suggestions or tips you can offer to help me improve my condition would be greatly appreciated. thanks
