If you haven't got holes for pins and bats on your wheelhead, and you can't leave your work on it for several days, I have a solution. I put a damp microfibre cloth on the wheel, and on that a bat cut out of linoleum. The whole thing sticks really well to the wheel and doesn't slip. Then you just remove the lino bat with the plate and leave to go leatherhard (I leave the whole thing in a plastic bag for a week). I don't even have to undercut the plate with a wire because the lino bat peels straight off and leaves a perfect smooth finish. I might even do a video.
Oh! You make this look so easy!! I'll look to see if you have posted a video of the trimming of this plate. The thickness, 1/2-3/4" seems very thick so you must be trimming some off. Thank you for this video.
+Tariq Khan Just remember... practice, practice, practice! :-) When I do production pottery, time is money, so I have become pretty good at being as expeditious as possible! :-)
Hello, do you have a technique to NOT break you dishes when using the wire ? I just destroyed 3 dishes because my wire is making a hole in the middle of the clay
I have problems with either warping or S cracking. Over half my plates come out duds and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I was recently told the rims must be the same thickness as the plate body - but i don't think this is the case from your demonstration. I compress the plate body for almost a full minute on the wheel. I've also used a pvc pipe to get things smooth and flat. Also - it takes almost a week before i can pull them off the bats without deflecting causing warpage later. Maybe another week or two after trimming? That's a really long time... Help?
Make sure you have enough support at the base of the rim... don't squeeze too much down low- or you will compromise the strength. Also, be careful if you are putting a flatter flange on the rim... it can collapse - so I encourage a slight upward angle to keep it from falling.
Please, I have aluminum wheel diameter is 86mm and I need Ceramic plated on the cylindrically service area So, do you guide me what is the way to do that
From the photos I see online, I would say I would not. It appears that those are placed directly over a burner or flame as opposed to being ovenwear. There are special clays which can be used for flameware, but I don't have any of those!
I measure the same weight of clay before throwing, and also measure the width of the centered hunk- and again measure the final width of the rim! :) measurements are the key!
@@KaransPotsAndGlass Can you give any guidelines as to measurements for an average size plate ie centre and rim? Also do you have a video on trimming dinner plates?
Thank you! I threw my first plates yesterday using your video. I am starting small to see how the drying process goes.
Wonderful! Even drying is the key!! When it gets stiff enough, I recommend throwing a bath towel over it to promote even drying! Good luck!!

I am at 60 seconds per plate, focus, delivery, power. Remember you are the master the clay will obey your commands .
@@UnderTheSunPottery That has been my problem, I find myself pleading with the clay, I need to put my foot down! :)
Nice and fast , like the rim haven’t tried that style.
Thanks so much!

thank you so much :)
How wide the base should be for a dinner plate? In centimeters if you can☺️
Whenever I try to throw a plate my rim becomes very weak. What am I doing wrong?

Can you make tava ( pan) for making flat bread

Thank you! But how do you trim the underside, if the plate is not flat?
I do have a trimming video on that- just having trouble with the link working!! How to Trim a Thrown Plate- on a Giffin Grip
Try this! th-cam.com/video/2HjyqA39vl8/w-d-xo.html
How much clay did you use to make this plate?
Regular dinner plates with trimmed feet I use 4 lbs!
How do you make the same exact size each time?

Thank you sweetie! Much appreciated!
