    Lots of good tips here. I need to work on my DR kit for my ‘82 NC50. Had a couple of soft seizes, rehoned and now can’t get it to fire. I’ve got 90 psi compression. It used to have 130. Gonna have it professionally rehoned and then try. It’s got really weak spark. I need to clip off some plug wire and put the boot back on. The tip about checking the ground to the frame it excellent. I hadn’t thought of that. I’d like to get better spark. Also liked the tip about sticking a ring expander in there. Great stuff here! Thanks!

      You might need new rings.

      @@jackrutherford-1 i changed them and my results were kinda like yours. My compression went down. I removed the head gasket and it didn’t change either. I’d think it would fire at 90, but no dice. Hoping it would fire and then the compression would come up afterwards as the rings found their home.

      i like the iowa hawkeyes.. iowa represent lol. anyways do a leakdown test. could have compression but could only be momentarily.@@jasonmajernik7889

    In the instructions for that kit it says the exhaust will need modification to the flange to bolt up correctly

    This is awesome man good content just brought my first fa50 the other day wanna do some mods to gane some speed but I’m not to sure where to start it’s been in a garage for 20 years got it home and started it on the second kick with old gas an oil

      They should go 27-28mph stock. Get it to that point first and take care of basics like tires and brakes.

    these are known to be low compression motors its a common mod to cut down the cylinder

    Hey man! I was just gifted one of these by a friend, the motor is in amazing condition considering the mileage (almost 6000) and age but I can't find a stator/magneto assembly. I'm completely missing the magneto and my stator plate casting is damaged on top of missing the primary coil. I was wondering if you could provide specifics so that I could order a generic replacement or maybe you could sell me one if you have any extras laying around. I love the content man!

    Currently facing the same problem you did regarding the piston not reaching the end of the cyl. How did you remove the material of the cyl? Belt sander?

    • @jackrutherford-1
      @jackrutherford-1  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yes, belt sander. Machinists scoff at that method but it works for me. You can always tape sand paper to a piece of glass and flatten any minor issues.

      @@jackrutherford-1I had read that bit on moped army about the sandpaper on glass. Good advice.

    what if you use rtv instead of a base gasket? or maybe a non-setting sealant so you can remove it more easily.

    When the engine was running, the rear wheel was wobbling.

    Hello, i see youve given the qt50 a break on your page. I just put on new 60cc kit on mine and also changed the charge coil but now it wont start. Really good spark but when i kick the engine over the lowend makes a new clank/rattle Noise. I opened the case and it looks alright as far as can tell, clutch is fine. If the spark is good could it still be the stator? What do you think is going on?

    • @jackrutherford-1
      @jackrutherford-1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you post a video of your spark? What is compression after top end change? How does that compare to compression previous to top end change? Is something interfering with motion of piston that is causing the low end noise? Have you checked piston/cylinder for any damage as a result? Did you take apart the clutch as well? What else did you do besides top end and charge coil? Did you take the stator cover off and inspect for damage there or loose stator or flywheel? Flywheel key replaced? This should give you a good start.

      @@jackrutherford-1 so it turns out that the stock head doesn't work with the 60cc kit and had to use the 43mm one. Rookie move. Now ive got low compression at 35 psi. Ring gaps were within spec and cylinder head is torque to 85 pounds/inch. Where shall i focus my attention now?

    First mistake there is having a Dellorto SHA installed lol. It's an insta-downgrade for the FA.

    Your testing compression on a dry bore, use some oil

    • @jackrutherford-1
      @jackrutherford-1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Adding oil artificially raises compression. Everything was lubed with 2 stroke oil on assembly.

    There seem to be quite a few good running modified FA50's ............. I think you may not be working on a good example of one.

      @@jackrutherford-1 Admittedly after hearing you say "it would be dumb to performance tune an FA" I did fast forward a couple times.

      @@EBthere Take statements like that with a grain of salt. I would probably put on some performance parts and give it a go. I may with another one. The FA50 kind of grew on me despite all the BS. I was fed up with that BS pipe and BS cylinder. that's all.
